Movie clip is one kind of audio visual media which is very useful in teaching learning process if the teacher carefully prepares it and then she/he uses it effectively to support the explanation of the lesson.This research uses mixed method design with explanatory type design by means of three data collection techniques : pre test and post test, document test, and interview. The sample of this research was 12 students of ten grade from one Vocational High School in Tasikmalaya. The result of this research shows the significant effect with normality test is 0.63≥ 0.05 so that H0 is accepted. Then value of pretest comes from populations that are normally distributed, and that significant value of post test is 0.15 ≥0.05, so that H0 is accepted. The improvement made by movie clips is an avarage pretest amounting 63.58 and 77.5 for posttest. It means that there is an improvement, and the perception obtained from interview shows a lot of positive comment. Meanwhile, each student has different scores, high and low, that are able to influence how their learning achievement are in the classroom, but they have the same goal in writing class in that they want to write well and correctly. The first finding showed that there was modality system in all of clauses indicating  author’s interpersonal meaning with the use of language value that is different in the texts. The second finding showed that different types of language value and polarity also indicated the author’s interpersonal meaning in the texts. The types of modality which were found in the five texts were dominated by modalization with positive polarity and median value. In addition, this analysis concluded that five texts comprised several modalization and modulation types which occurred in different ranks. This study mixed-method study involved the eight grade students of junior high school in Ciamis Year 2017/2018 at which the sample was 27 students of experimental group and 27 for control group. Pre-test and post-test were employed to collect the quantitative data and close-ended questionnaires to collect the qualitative data. The findings indicated that t-observed was 2.344 with degree of freedom 52 and level of significance 0.05 with two tailed test t-table (2.021). It implied that t-observed was higher than t-table (2.344 > 2.021) resulting in rejecting Null hypothesis. It means that there were significant differences on the students’ pronunciation achievement who were taught before using YouTube video and after using YouTube video. Also, students have positive perceptions toward the use of Youtube video as teaching media to overcome their problem in pronouncing past tense verbs such as feeling more intellegent, interested and effective in learning speaking especially pronunciation. The writer employed a case study conducted in two senior high schools in Ciamis. There were 60 participants involved in this study consisted of 30 low and 30 of high achievers. To answer the research questions, the writer conducted semi-structured interview and administered closed-ended questionnaire based on Schmitt (1997)’s classifications of vocabulary learning strategies. From the results of completed questionnaire, the writer found that metacognitive, determination, and memory strategies were the mostly applied by EFL low and high achievers. Those strategies included using English media, consulting on bilingual dictionary, and studying a sound of word. Furthermore, the data of interview specifically showed that watching subtitled films, listening English songs, consulting on google translate, and asking friends are also involved. Finally, EFL low and high achievers  have to be aware of their own preferred strategies in learning vocabulary to improve their foreign language learning. It is suggested for English teachers to facilitate students in applying their preferred strategies in learning vocabulary. Keywords: good language learner, low and high EFL achievers, vocabulary learning strategies","PeriodicalId":360393,"journal":{"name":"Journal of English Education Program (JEEP)","volume":"14 18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130032376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A qualitative approach with the type of case study was utilized to collect the primary data involving an English teacher who taught news item text through IBL. Classroom observation and interview were the instruments in this research which were analyzed qualitatively. Based on the research findings, the writer found that the teacher used the steps in implementing IBL as suggested by Lee et al., (2004, p. 23) including planning, creating, processing, sharing and retrieving, and evaluating. The writer also found that the teacher encountered difficulties in guiding the students to find out the information in order to fulfill teacher’s instructions by some questions generated in the white board. To solve that problem, the teacher encouraged the students to communicate intensively in their group. The documentary data was used in form of poem script “Acon and Rhodope; or, Inconstantly” written by Walter Savage Landor. Content analysis was used by the writer to analyze the content of poem which was adapted from Cohen, et al. (2007, p. 475). The findings showed that there were 174 words or expressions found in poem which were divided into seven types of imagery such as: visual, auditory, gustatory, olfactory, tactile, thermal, and kinesthesia. There were also seven functions of imagery in the poem: 1) visual imagery representing the sense of sight; 2) auditory imagery representing the sense of sound; 3) gustatory imagery or representing the sense of taste; 4) olfactory imagery representing the sense of smell; 5) tactile imagery representing the sense of touch; 6) thermal imagery representing the sense of heat and cold; and 7) kinesthesia imagery appealing to physical sensations of movement, balance, and muscular tension. Also, there were 95 archaic words found in poem to enhance the aesthetical or musical value of the poem, to find out the social life, customs, belief systems and generally cultural richness of the time he emerged, and to make his language old and solemn.
