When two or more nearby BANs transmit simultaneously, collisions may occur and body sensors therefore consume more energy for re-transmission. Each BAN thus spends more channel time, which lowers the total network capacity. To reduce energy consumption and better the network capacity, in this paper, we propose a CSMA/CA-based Load Adaptive MAC Protocol for inter-BAN, called LAMP. Based on Markov chain analysis, LAMP can dynamically choose a proper contention window size according to the load in the operating channel and automatically switch to another channel when the current channel is near congested. Simulation results show that LAMP outperforms traditional CSMA/CA protocols in terms of throughput and energy consumption. Meanwhile, it keeps high fairness.","PeriodicalId":360054,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133096929","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we investigate the key performance metrics when vehicles download the required data by hybrid Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) patterns in multi-lane scenario. Analytical results are derived on the transmission time and the number of handovers. In addition, in order to realize the minimum number of handovers in V2V transmission process, we put forward a Maximum Single Download Time (MSDT) handover strategy. Finally, simulations and discussions are presented to validate the performance of the proposed strategy under different transmission models, and to prove its advantage by comparing with some other typical strategies.","PeriodicalId":360054,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131930767","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With higher cooperative gain, the direct link (DL) of the regenerative FDR is decoded at the receiver and can contribute to the useful signal rather than the interference, which can further improve the system performance significantly. With this mechanism, the joint transmit power and duration optimization problem is formulated to maximize the EE of the FDR system, which is proved to be non-convex and cannot be resolved by the standard convex methods. Therefore, a twostep optimization algorithm (TSOA) is proposed to solve the original non-convex problem, where the optimality of the solution is ensured due to the rigorously proved convexity. Simulations are carried out to verify the EE performance of our proposed scheme, compared with the existing schemes. It is also revealed that the FDR systems are basically comparable to the half-duplex relaying (HDR) counterparts in terms of EE if the residual self-interference (RSI) is below a certain level, and have the ability to achieve higher data rate demand.","PeriodicalId":360054,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134549852","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this article, firstly, we develop an explicit formula for outage probability for a wireless sensor network taking account of the problem parameters — i.e. the spatial density of nodes in the network, the noise power, the transmission power, the distance between the considered node and the base station, and finally the attenuation coefficient —. Secondly, we model a given node by a Markov chain to study the performance of the MAC layer in the case of a Slotted-ALOHA protocol and Slotted-ALOHA with preliminary channel reservation. Especially in this study, we theoretically estimate the transmission success likelihood after a certain number of attempts that we consider as a metric to evaluate the performance of the considered protocol. Finally we compare the theoretical results with experimental ones achieved on the large scale platform FIT IoT-Lab of Lille. To sum up, this paper responds to the following question: How many channels do we need to a achieve high performance distributed wireless sensor network? The answer is given by the necessary number of channels which maximizes the transmission success likelihood after a certain number of trials.","PeriodicalId":360054,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117317615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For a random misalignment 7 between the transmitter clock and the receiver clock, we seek to characterize the sync frame (length) necessary for error-free frame synchronization. We assume that the random times v and 7 are independent and have a general distribution. Using a variable length sync word and a multi-stage sequential decoder for the setup, we derive necessary and sufficient scaling of the average sync frame length for asymptotic error-free frame synchronization. In particular, we show that the average sync frame length must scale with the entropy of v and/or logarithm of cardinality of the sample space of 7. We illustrate our results for the AWGN channel and also derive the scaling needed of the sync frame energy for the asynchronous setup.","PeriodicalId":360054,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123277272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, we seek answer to the question: if and how the application of an FD jammer can enhance the system SEE, considering the additional power consumption used for jamming and self-interference cancellation, as well as the degrading effect of residual self-interference. In this regard, an SEE maximization problem is formulated. Due to the intractable problem structure, an iterative solution is provided with a guaranteed convergence to a local optimum. Moreover, the proposed solution is extended for a system with a bidirectional communication, where both legitimate nodes are equipped with FD capability. Numerical simulations indicate a marginal SEE gain, via the utilization of FD jamming, for a wide range of system conditions. However, the observed gain is significant for the scenarios with a small distance between the FD node and the eavesdropper, a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) condition or for a bidirectional FD communication setup, under the condition that the self-interference can be effectively and efficiently mitigated.","PeriodicalId":360054,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121761957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this end, a routing optimization mechanism applicable to randomly shaped all-IP access networks must be developed. In this paper, Multi-Plane Routing (MPR) that consolidates various aspects in all-IP infrastructure as a whole is redesigned and reformulated to provide a comprehensive solution in consideration of the randomness of future access networks. We prove the offline Routing Plane (RP) construction problem as being the generalization of the Minimum Set Cover (MSC) problem which is NP and also NP-complete. To this end, we propose a novel MSC-based paths-diverse offline TE algorithm which is comprehensively applicable to random wireless access network structures. Our simulation results demonstrate the constructed RPs for complex random networks of different sizes and sparseness (i.e. meshing). Hence, the comprehensive applicability of our novel approach is verified. Moreover, we propose a new optimization framework along with a dynamic cost function (considering capacity and correlation of paths) that formally describe our novel offline TE mechanism for future randomly shaped wireless IP access networks.","PeriodicalId":360054,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"278 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122096879","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, when an event of interest occurs at a device, it tends to spread to the neighboring devices. Consequently, when a device has data to send to the base station (BS), its neighbors later are highly likely to transmit. Thus, we propose to cluster devices in the neighborhood around the event, also referred to as the disturbance region, into rings based on the distance from the original event. To reduce the uplink latency, we then proactively allocate resources for these rings. To evaluate the proposed algorithm, we analytically derive the mean uplink delay, the proportion of resource conservation due to successful allocations, and the proportion of uplink resource wastage due to unsuccessful allocations for 2D-PURA algorithm. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed method can save over 16.5 and 27 percent of mean uplink delay, compared with the 1D algorithm and the standard method, respectively.","PeriodicalId":360054,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122750683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it consumes UE battery rapidly because UE should monitor PDCCH, and send CQI feedback periodically. In this paper, we design the RRC connection control to enhance energy efficiency with moderate control signaling overhead. In RRC INACTIVE state, the newly introduced in NR, both network and UE save UE context including bearer configuration and security even after UE released from network. Owing to the saved UE context, the RRC state transition from RRC INACTIVE to RRC CONNECTED requires fewer number of CN signalling. And thus network can release UE to RRC INACTIVE more aggressively with shorter timer. Furthermore, we propose the connectionless data transmission in RRC INACTIVE without RRC state transition to RRC CONNECTED. In our performance analysis, UE energy consumption can be improved by 50% for the modem only and 18% reduction for the total device including display. Furthermore, when the small data or background (keep-alive) traffic is transferred in RRC INACTIVE, the energy efficiency is increased up to double.","PeriodicalId":360054,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126395490","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
