The proposed joint design enables the coexistence of multiple access/backhaul links at the same channel, resulting in an enhanced spectral efficiency. Moreover, it enables the usage of FD capability when/where it is gainful. In this regard, a mixed-integer-linear-program (MILP) design framework is proposed, aiming at a minimum cost design for the wireless backhaul network, considering the required rate demand at each base station, as well as the various operational limits. The numerical simulations show a reduction in the network cost via the utilization of the proposed designs, thanks to the coexistence of multiple links on the same channel due to the FD capability.","PeriodicalId":360054,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129526522","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Decentralized resource allocation is one such feasibility requirement, as it yields optimized schemes when no centralized processing is possible. This paper evaluates one particular type of decentralized interference management schemes in a full-duplex (FD) cellular network. Consider an FD cellular network that allows flexible partial overlap between the uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) frequency channel. The channel overlap generates self-interference, cross-mode interference and intra-mode interference. The performance of the system becomes, therefore, a function of the powers allocated at each base station (BS)-user pair, and the fraction of spectrum overlap between the DL and UL of each communicating pair. The paper considers the problem of maximizing a network-wide utility function subject to power constraints, so as to appropriately fine-tune the spectrum overlap and the transmit powers in a distributed manner across the network. The paper proposes solving the problem using the externalities approach, which can be implemented in a distributed fashion with a reasonable amount of information exchange between the network entities. The paper further examines three types of utility functions: the sum of log-rate, the network spectral efficiency, and the energy efficiency, so as to clearly describe the trade-off between the achieved rate, the consumed power, and UL/DL fairness in the FD setup. Simulation results highlight the convergence of the proposed distributed algorithm, and illustrate its performance under different utilities as compared to centralized solutions for various networks scenarios.","PeriodicalId":360054,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129618251","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the US and UK regulators have already passed such regulations in 2008 and 2015 respectively, other countries are still in drafting stages and the underlying circumstances in these countries could be different from those of the US and UK. Malawi released its final draft regulations in 2016. While the US and UK legislate for dynamic spectrum access and licence-exemption for secondary users, Malawi's draft regulations require such users to apply for a licence for assigned TV white space spectrum. This paper provides an analytical review of Malawi's regulations and a comparison with FCC and Ofcom regulations, which new regulations can build on. This analysis will also inform future work on network management tools that can enable practical deployment and coexistence of large-scale TV white space networks in a dynamic spectrum access environment in Africa.","PeriodicalId":360054,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"379 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120871727","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It provides low energy consumption and wide coverage in order to meet the requirements of its diverse applications that span social, industrial and environmental aspects. Increasing the number of repetitions of the transmission has been selected as a promising approach to enhance the coverage in NB-IoT up to 164 dB in terms of maximum coupling loss for uplink transmissions, which is a significant improvement compared with legacy LTE technologies, especially to serve users in deep coverage. However, a large number of repetitions reduces the system throughput and increases the energy consumption of the IoT devices, which reduces their battery lifetime and increases their maintenance cost. In this work, we propose a new method for enhancing the NB-IoT coverage based on machine learning algorithms. Instead of employing a random spectrum access procedure, dynamic spectrum access can reduce the number of required repetitions, increase the coverage, and reduce the energy consumption.","PeriodicalId":360054,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121105264","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper considers the precoding design for a multi-user multiple-input-single-output VLC system. Two major concerns need to be considered while solving such a problem. The first one is related to the inter-user interference, basically inherent to our consideration of a multi-user system, while the second results from the users' mobility, causing imperfect channel estimates. To address both concerns, we propose robust precoding designs that solve both max-min SINR and minimal illumination level problems. The first problem allows users' rates maximization while ensuring fairness and the second problem decides the feasibility of a certain set of target SINRs. The proposed robust designs are studied under different conditions, and are shown to achieve a high gain over their nonrobust counterparts.","PeriodicalId":360054,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122357419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In such CCRNs, a pair of primary users (PUs) can only communicate with each other through a relay. To protect data transmission between PUs, we propose a cooperative jamming strategy with energy harvesting technology. In the first phase, a PU as the source (PU-S) broadcasts signals, while another PU as the destination (PU-D) sends artificial noise (AN) and all secondary uses (SUs) harvest energy from the received mixed signals. In the second phase, one SU selected as a relay (SU-R) uses its harvested energy to forward PU's signals, while another SU selected as a jammer (SU-J) employs its harvested energy to send AN. According to this, we formulate a non-convex problem aiming to improve the secrecy rate of PUs and divide this problem into three optimization subproblems. Finally we provide a feasible joint solution by a two-tiered iterative algorithm. Numerical results demonstrate the secrecy performance of our proposed jamming strategy.","PeriodicalId":360054,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126878021","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It introduces a novelty at the error correction performance level. Nevertheless, this method can be toughly implemented due to its high computational complexity. In this paper, an implementation of the ADMM LP decoding algorithm on an FPGA target is presented. Its hardware resource cost is evaluated and compared with the state of the art LDPC decoders using the belief propagation (BP) decoding approach. The preliminary logic synthesis results show that an LP based hardware decoder for LDPC codes should be viable for applications with tough error correction requirements. However, additional research works are required to reach equivalent hardware complexity and throughput performances that are similar to traditional BP based LDPC decoders.","PeriodicalId":360054,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"129 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124346288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We try to maximize the sum rate of D2D pairs while limiting the interference to cellular links. Due to the lack of global information in large scale networks, resource allocation is hard to be implemented in a centralized way. Therefore, we design a novel distributed resource allocation scheme which is based on local information and requires little coordination and communication between D2D pairs. Specifically, we decompose the original problem into two cascaded subproblems, namely channel allocation and power control. The cascaded structure of our scheme enables us to cope with them respectively. Then a two-stage algorithm is proposed. In the first stage, we model the channel allocation problem as a many-to-one matching with externalities and try to find a strongly swap-stable matching. In the second stage, we adopt a pricing mechanism and develop an iterative two-step algorithm to solve the power control problem.","PeriodicalId":360054,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127649853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main goal of this paper is to improve routing performance in a progressive manner by reconnecting partitioned networks through dispatched UAV relays. Our proposed algorithm uses two types of UAVs: global and local UAVs to collaboratively find the best deployment position in a dynamically changing environment. To obtain terrestrial network connectivity information and extract high-level network topology, we exploit the concept of strongly connected component in graph theory. Based on the understanding from a global point view, global UAVs recommend the most effective deployment positions to local UAVs so that they are deployed as relays in more critically disrupted areas. Simulation-based experiments validate that our distributed route reconstruction algorithm outperforms a counterpart algorithm in terms of steady-state and dynamic routing performance.","PeriodicalId":360054,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116984507","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our scheme reduces the network access time latencies between these platforms and the remote server hosting the control and scheduling mechanisms. Reduction in the TDMA-based access time is achieved by reducing the actual amount of data transmitted over the network, using partial transmission of actual sensor data over the network and server-side sequence prediction of the voluntarily missed sensor values. Our scheme allows the TDMA control of an increased number of networked platforms without change of infrastructure or the network characteristics.","PeriodicalId":360054,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132849898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
