This problem inherently has a nonlinear nature. To have a tractable model, the proposed model is linearized. Cost minimization is considered as objective function of the problem which is subjected to a suit of constraints. Different flexible elements such as energy storage devices and converters are also considered in the structure of the energy hub. The proposed model is tested on a sample energy hub for one year time horizon. Sensitivity analysis is performed based on the chance-constraint parameters. The results are thoroughly analyzed for the different structures of the energy hub. The results show that considering a well-tuned chance-constraint in the model has a direct impact on the final solution in a cost effective manner.","PeriodicalId":359817,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Power System Conference (PSC)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132025099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PV plants provide the required reserve of generation through operating below the maximum power point tracking. This paper proposes a model predictive control (MPC)-based approach for power control of PV plants contributing towards load frequency control (LFC). In MPC, the control signals are provided through optimizing a cost function which includes the plant model as well as current and past signals of the system. Since the successful performance of the controller depends on the well-adjusting of its weights, the weights of the controller are regulated by sine cosine algorithm to earn an optimal performance. Comprehensive discussions are presented on a three-area interconnected power system. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is demonstrated through case studies and thereby relevant conclusions are drawn.","PeriodicalId":359817,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Power System Conference (PSC)","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134291776","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

So power system flexibility plays the main role in secure and reliable power system operation. Variable generation specially wind and solar are two main sources of flexibility decrement challenge in power system On the other hand energy storage equipment helps to overcome this challenge by insertion or absorption electrical energy by sufficient capacity and ramp rate. Flexibility metrics is a good tool for power system flexibility evaluation and can help to comprise the level of flexibility of power system in different situations especially in operational planning and real time operation. In this paper a new flexibility metric is developed for power system incorporated wind farm in the presence of energy storage equipment for power system flexibility evaluation. This metric includes two main parts of energy capacity and ramp rate of energy storage each of them improves the power system flexibility. The comparison of this metric with and without the energy storage can quantify the role of this equipment and also can be used for economic analysis by the concept of flexibility value.","PeriodicalId":359817,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Power System Conference (PSC)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131887474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The significance of replacing fossil fuel power stations with distributed energy resources (DERs) in microgrids will not only provide pleasing reliability and customer confidence but also due to its near distance to the consumption site least energy losses are expected. This paper presents a feasibility study on operating different distributed generation (DG) technologies such as fuel cell (FC), microturbine (MT) and combined heat and power system (CHP) in a real industrial microgrid. A common industrial microgrid includes loads, DERs and energy storage equipment. Modern distribution networks, in addition to the importance of economic issues, must operate at an acceptable level of system reliability, Failure to pay attention to the reliability importance can lead to irreparable damages in the distribution network. Toward this end, energy not supplied as a reliability index along with operation cost are considered as objective functions. Also, the effect of uncertainty resources related to solar photovoltaic arrays power generation and electricity price are considered in the optimization problem evaluations. Considering the effects of distributed generators and energy storage units causes the proposed problem more be complicated. For this reason, an improved particle swarm optimization algorithm is provided to deal the complexity of the problem. The proposed algorithm is tested in the IEEE 33-node test system, and its superiorities are shown through comparison with other evolutionary algorithms.","PeriodicalId":359817,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Power System Conference (PSC)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123842521","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most important feature of these insulators is their hydrophobicity. Contamination and aging are some of the factors that weaken this important feature and reduce the reliability of these insulators. Due to aging effects partial discharges start on the surface of the composite insulators and increase by impact of external factors. This paper examines the occurrence of partial discharge signals on polymeric insulators under: varying amounts of contamination, impact of physical defects, and accelerated salt-fog aging process. The partial discharge signals of these insulators are detected by UHF antenna and they are recorded. These measured partial discharge signals are used to monitor the insulation status. Their characteristics are determined through feature extraction. Using these “extracted features”, a good distinction is found among these captured signals; which relate to different samples characteristics in terms of: severity of pollution, or different mechanical defects. These features are selected and used for classifying the insulators condition by support vector machine (SVM) algorithm.","PeriodicalId":359817,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Power System Conference (PSC)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122577392","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In conventional architecture, a 2-level inverter as well as boost converter are used to control the motor speed. However, efficiency of the boost converter drop at light load condition. Therefore, in this paper, application of a 3-level neutral point clamp converter (3L-NPC), using 600V MOSFET switch instead of 1.2 kV switching devices which leads to significant cost reduction, is considered for EVs. In addition, a selective harmonic elimination (SHE) modulation technique is designed to improve efficiency of the EV power train inverter for every operating point. Moreover, using SHE modulation, there is no need for a variable gain boost converter. Finally, a 3L-NPC and conventional 2-level inverter architecture is chosen for Toyota Prius power train to simulate in MATLAB/Simulink environment using Sim-Power-System and PLECS Blocksets for a driving cycle.","PeriodicalId":359817,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Power System Conference (PSC)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125088621","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The suggested basic topology is consisted of 4 input DC sources and 12 power switches. The magnitude of DC sources are selected in binary manner to minimize the redundant states and maximize the number of distinct voltage levels. The modular and simple structure, low average of voltages stress on switches, suitability for resistive-inductive load type as well as increased levels per device count (DC input sources, power switches and gate driver circuits) are the main advantages of suggested configuration. In this study, the suggested basic and extended topologies have been introduced and the relevant switching scheme has been presented. Then for better evaluation, the suggested basic topology has been compared with similar topologies and simulated in PSCAD/EMTDC software. One of the most popular solutions is to use small transformers to reduce the length of the low voltage feeders in order to decline losses in these parts of the distribution networks. By analogy, in this paper, a new techno-economic method is proposed in order to contend with the aforementioned problems. The effectiveness of the method is evaluated by using several test systems. Self-adaptive PSO is selected as a metaheuristic optimization algorithm due to its high exploration and exploitation nature and fast convergence. Equivalent uniform annual cost is selected as a simple but effective tool so as to split the cost of the initial investment. The objective function is defined to minimize not only the initial investment but also the operation cost, simultaneously.","PeriodicalId":359817,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Power System Conference (PSC)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117282307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
