They own honey bee ( Apis mellifera ) colonies, have basic equipment, and are knowledgeable about apiculture. In the INSIGNIA project, citizen science beekeepers collected samples from their colonies over two seasons. Several protocols and different sampling devices for beekeeper participation in monitoring the environment for pesticides and bee forage sources were developed and tested, including all steps until sample analysis in the laboratory. The study was accompanied by studies investigating the motivations and skills of beekeepers volunteering as citizen scientists. The samples and information collected with the help of citizen scientists will be used to model the biodiversity of pollen sources, risk mapping for pollinators and environmental pollution in different environments.","PeriodicalId":359522,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Austrian Citizen Science Conference 2020 — PoS(ACSC2020)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127887156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With further support of trainees from the AOC Seebarn, a possible basis for long-term monitoring of swallow nests in Lower Austria was created, providing first insights into public acceptance of house martins and barn swallows. The current results are to be seen as a snapshot of the year 2019. Continuation and expansion of the swallow nest monitoring based on citizen science aims to evaluate the sustainable impact of citizen science for a long-term conservation project.","PeriodicalId":359522,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Austrian Citizen Science Conference 2020 — PoS(ACSC2020)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121884721","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SciArt can be understood as a hybrid of scientific and artistic expertise generating novel narratives and rather unexpected approaches. Putting the focus on science outreach aiming for public engagement and SciArt offers new ways to citizen science and other collaborative, participatory or action-based forms of research. Citizen science projects at the intersection of SciArt often aim to educate their participants about scientific facts and methods, particularly for robust STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) learning. Two case studies illustrate the particularities of this specific collaboration or disciplinary appropriation for individual and community empowerment.","PeriodicalId":359522,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Austrian Citizen Science Conference 2020 — PoS(ACSC2020)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125945671","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has been investigated whether and to what extend Citizen Science participation can foster individual empowerment, self-advocacy, political participation and community capacity building for vulnerable groups. Experiences and impacts derived from two recently finished practice projects in rural areas of Carinthia, which aimed to promote the inclusion and equity of chances for people with a migrant background as well as elderly people with dementia and their caregivers, are reflected and discussed. The results show that (Citizen Science) research is able to help in giving disadvantaged groups a voice and the possibility of participation in the community.","PeriodicalId":359522,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Austrian Citizen Science Conference 2020 — PoS(ACSC2020)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124596174","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
