The scheme aims to improve the system throughput while preserving good performance in terms of bit error rate. The system consists of N nodes which send their information to both the destination node and the multiple-antenna relay station. Based on the channel state information, the destination node decides whether or not relaying will be performed. When the relaying is performed, the decode-remodulate-and-forward protocol is used with the best antenna. Results reveal that the proposed scheme achieves a good tradeoff between throughput and bit error rate, which makes suitable to be considered for multi-user networks.","PeriodicalId":359348,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Telecommunications Symposium (ITS)","volume":"36 8-12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131606980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This noise is emitted at the cavitation bubble collapse caused by the claw shut, and can produce very high acoustic pressures which are responsible for the impulsiveness of the noise. The denoised signal is the solution of an unconstrained scalarized bi-criterion convex optimization problem. One of the criterions is based on the robust least-squares signal reconstruction approach, for which the sum of the Huber penalty function of the residuals is minimized. The other criterion uses a quadratic smoothing regularization term, acting on the first-difference of the denoised signal samples. It is shown that the proposed technique can significantly reduce the ambient noise and, thus, reduce the bit error rate of an underwater digital communication system.","PeriodicalId":359348,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Telecommunications Symposium (ITS)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126757810","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The expressions also apply to periodic pilot-signal bursts inserted into a continuous bit stream. The solutions are optimal in the mean-square-error sense for coherent optical receivers subject to random-walk phase fluctuations and high short-term laser-frequency stability. Low computational time-complexity of only O(n) and space-complexity as low as O(log(n)) are obtained, where n is the size of the estimation block. Better yet, when the pilot-signal is a Continuous Wave tone, the estimator is able to extend its performance up to the maximum correctable frequency-mismatch, which is one-half of the baud rate. We believe that these results contribute to fostering low-power transceiver technology for green communication networks.","PeriodicalId":359348,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Telecommunications Symposium (ITS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121083432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The absence of a chip imposes the necessity of developing new techniques for information recovery from the reflected signal. In this paper we consider the application of the Fractional Fourier Transform - FrFT for the recovery of information in from collided signals. We show the feasibility of the method and the evaluation its performance when the number of collided tags increase. The results shows the robustness of the proposed method, even for a collision of a large number of tags.","PeriodicalId":359348,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Telecommunications Symposium (ITS)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125195258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Excellent agreement between the BER estimates from the direct error counting (DEC) and the EGA is shown for different levels of optical signal-to-noise ratio and signal distortion. It is shown that the EGA requires about three orders of magnitude less in computation time than the DEC method for BER levels around 10-6, with the difference getting higher for lower BER levels.","PeriodicalId":359348,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Telecommunications Symposium (ITS)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125238857","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the method of Lagrange Multipliers, this `Volterra-CM formulation' brings very relevant information about the structure of the null-gradient CM solutions in the equalizer parameter space, including a conjecture regarding the relationship between the smallest multiplier and the optimal CM receiver. In the case of a two-tap filter, the proposed formulation allows that the solutions be obtained in terms of a single parameter, the corresponding Lagrange multiplier. For filters with more than two taps, the problem requires that a nonlinear system be solved, which is done with the aid of an iterative algorithm. The obtained global convergence rates show that the formulation is an effective tool to describe the structure of the optimal CM solution.","PeriodicalId":359348,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Telecommunications Symposium (ITS)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123043516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Rayleigh distribution is used to model MIMO channels, and both full-duplex and half-duplex modes are investigated. Co-channel interference at relay and destination nodes has been considered. Our assumption is based on the result of [1], which establishes that MIMO channel mutual information can be well approximated by a Gaussian distribution. We have found a closed form expression for P given as a function of bivariate Gaussian cumulative density function. The results show for low-medium interference regime that full-duplex performs better than half-duplex mode. On the other hand, when relay self-interference increases, half-duplex outperforms full-duplex mode. Regarding the number of antennas, full-duplex mode performs better than half-duplex mode when number of antennas increases, even in high interference scenario. All the results are validated by numerical Monte Carlo simulations.","PeriodicalId":359348,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Telecommunications Symposium (ITS)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122262292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of such an algorithm is to enhance the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of the received signal by using only the signals available at the CDMA correlators. In this context, a novel formulation for the optimization problem usually considered for developing this type of beamforming algorithm is first introduced. Then, the gradient method is used to solve such optimization problem in real time, resulting in the proposed beamforming algorithm. As compared with the other algorithms available in the open literature, the proposed one leads to a better tradeoff between the amplification of the signal of interest and attenuation of the interferences, which in turn improves the SINR of the received signal. Numerical simulation results are presented aiming to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.","PeriodicalId":359348,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Telecommunications Symposium (ITS)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125471509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Taking into account the incumbents' very long ranges, one of the main issues of DSA in these bands is the aggregate interference, derived from multiple secondary users (SUs) operating in the same channel. In this paper, we assess the impact of this phenomenon when spectrum sharing is performed in a totally opportunistic manner, for instance, when Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) developed by the IEEE 802.11h standard is employed, and when there is a cooperation mechanism between radar systems and SUs. We considered the operating characteristics of a real C band meteorological radar system with acceptable levels of interference standardized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).","PeriodicalId":359348,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Telecommunications Symposium (ITS)","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124096700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
