In emergency conditions, it has the advantage of quick response to balance the mismatch between energy generation and demand. Moreover, it is imperative to assess the demand flexibility potential of residential consumers since residential demand makes up the major portion of the total electric demand, and it is available 24/7 for participation in demand response (DR) programs. This paper investigates the demand flexibility potential of Pakistani residential sector for peak demand reduction and presents the monetary benefits of different DR modes to individual residential consumers. Monte Carlo Simulations (MCS) were used to calculate the demand flexibility potential of selected household appliances for summer and winter seasons. At the end of this study, a detailed comparison of reduction in peak demand and average demand, as a result of applying different DR modes, is presented. Economic valuation of DR actions suggests that individual residential consumers can achieve reasonable annual savings by properly utilizing the demand flexibility potential of selected household appliances.","PeriodicalId":359290,"journal":{"name":"2018 2nd International Conference on Energy Conservation and Efficiency (ICECE)","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114991498","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is not only necessary for humans but also for agriculture sector especially for thermal comfort of livestock. Moreover, air-conditioning for the sake of livestock applications is almost negligible in developing countries like Pakistan. In this regard, many direct evaporative cooling systems are used conventionally in Pakistan, however, these systems are not feasible in monsoon season and in the humid areas of Pakistan. Therefore, desiccant based air-conditioning (D-AC) is a very promising solution for this problem. In this study, a comprehensive summary of the D-AC system supported by Maisotsenko-cycle based evaporative cooling and applicability of this system is discussed for livestock application in Pakistan. The requirements of humidity and temperature which are ideally required for thermal comfort of the livestock is represented on psychrometric chart. Different conditions of the air have been checked for temperature humidity index measurement i.e., ambient air and processed air through desiccant air conditioning system for climatic conditions for two major cities of Pakistan (Multan and Karachi). Moreover, some analyses have been concluded to examine the performance of D-AC system supported by M-cycle unit and crisscross its practicability for the studied region. Results express that M-cycle supported D-AC system can be a sustainable AC system for humid and hot climatic conditions of Pakistan. While the standalone D-AC system is good for humid but relatively lesser hot regions of Pakistan where temperature control is not so crucial.","PeriodicalId":359290,"journal":{"name":"2018 2nd International Conference on Energy Conservation and Efficiency (ICECE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116816225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) is highly intermittent and nonlinear, therefore, our paper presents simulation analysis of NLCS on Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG). Moreover, this paper presents the robust NLCS for Induction Machines (IM). The different modeling assumptions used in robust control algorithms are reviewed systematically. The different control and switching systems are categorized as follows: Sliding Mode Control (SMC) schemes, feedback control schemes, fuzzy logic control, artificial neural network, pulse width modulation, and space vector modulation. The simulation results are carried out using SMC for DFIG-WECS that shows the robustness of the proposed system, compared to conventional proportional integral (PI) system under symmetrical transmission line faults.","PeriodicalId":359290,"journal":{"name":"2018 2nd International Conference on Energy Conservation and Efficiency (ICECE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130254588","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Solar power is a sustained source of energy which has developed into a reliable mean to replace fossil fuels due to scarcity, environmental impact and rising costs. Solar power, being adopted as an important configuration to supply energy for irrigation system, needs to be provided reasonably with a moderately advanced layout. Despite availability of huge potential, the solar power for sustainable irrigation system lacks adoption at large scale due to reasons like requirement of huge initial investment, ambiguous financial rights, roles, and responsibilities, limited number of participants, interlaced risks. The Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Model is an effective supply path for infrastructure development. Introducing the model innovatively into the irrigation system, can help introduce social capital, relieve local finance from the burden, establish sustainability of processes, enhance profitability and reduce risks with efficient project management. Focusing PPP projects at the participant level in the irrigation system, the paper straightens out supporting mechanisms of the government, financing agencies and social capital with the help of specific intermediaries, for effective and efficient construction, operation and maintenance of a sustainable system for areas in dire need of irrigation. Being an agricultural country, Pakistan produces a significant volume of agro-waste having little economic use at the moment. The increased consciousness in green house emission has motivated to develop new technologies to accommodate the detention and confiscation of CO2. Keeping in mind the scenario, the combustion and pyrolysis behavior of Pakistani lignite (PL), rice husk (RH) and their blends of PL50/RH50 wt.%, PL40/RH60 wt.% and PL30/RH70 wt.% were examined in oxy-fuel and nitrogen environments for their probable use as sustainable and alternative energy resource. Combustion profiles of rice husk and lignite blends lie between those of individual fuels. Thermal stability of the lignite was observed to be decreased as increase of rice husk and suggest favoring when more energy is needed in short interval of time. Energy potential of PL50/RH50 blend was better due to the presence of higher amount of carbon and calorific value, low amount of ash and sulfur contents. Activation energy found to be decreased with the increase of rice husk quantity in pyrolysis reaction and associated with carbon content of lignite. The reduction in activation energy indicated the decrease in the operational temperature and suggests that gasification process will start at lower temperature for blends of lignite and rice husk than individual lignite.","PeriodicalId":359290,"journal":{"name":"2018 2nd International Conference on Energy Conservation and Efficiency (ICECE)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117071627","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work aims to analyze the performance of first grid connected PV power plant located in Islamabad, Pakistan. The performance degradation of PV plants primarily depends on PV modules type (technology and design), regional climatic factors and field operating conditions. In this paper, performance ratio (PR) and degradation rate have been calculated from meteorological and performance data of plant to investigate the energy efficiency and modules quality over the course of operational years. Temperature losses due to module operating temperature were also estimated that primarily contribute to overall energy losses. This evaluation is of paramount importance for estimating the cost effect of the performance, identification of the underlying performance degradation and energy losses mechanisms, that help investors to choose climate specific modules technology and design for future plants and also to make efficient scheduling for preventive maintenance.","PeriodicalId":359290,"journal":{"name":"2018 2nd International Conference on Energy Conservation and Efficiency (ICECE)","volume":"137 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124320650","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is also considered as a viable solution to provide electricity to the rural areas in underdeveloped countries. Distributed generation is beneficial because it reduces the transmission losses, has less environmental hazards, and is comparatively cheaper when renewables are employed. In this paper, a hybrid microgrid is proposed for the irrigation system in Gujranwala. The system is designed in Hybrid optimization of Multiple Energy Resources (HOMER). The solar resource data is obtained from National Solar Radiation Database. The different sources considered in this case include solar photovoltaic (PV), hydrogen gas based fuel cell, and diesel generator. An optimization analysis is performed and a comparative study is completed in HOMER based on the sensitivity variables chosen. The various design configurations are evaluated and the optimal design is chosen based on load demand, available resources, and the cost of energy.","PeriodicalId":359290,"journal":{"name":"2018 2nd International Conference on Energy Conservation and Efficiency (ICECE)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126370270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among these renewable technologies, solar is most predicted and consistent source of energy. Power plants based on solar thermal technologies are increasing. Solar thermal power plants are efficient and clean replacement of fossil fuel power plants. In this paper Heliostat structure is designed for 50MW solar thermal plant. Firstly three variants of Heliostat structure are designed using CAD software. Variation is carried out in different parts. CAE model is developed for all structures and simulations are carried out. Post processing of the results is done and deformation is calculated. A comparison of all these structure is carried out and the structure which shows minimum deformation and greater rigidity is finalized.","PeriodicalId":359290,"journal":{"name":"2018 2nd International Conference on Energy Conservation and Efficiency (ICECE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130427435","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
