We present an innovative approach that treats the DRM metadata as metric objects, enabling similarity search on IPR attributes between digital items. In order to improve the search and retrieve of such data, the metadata standard MPEG-7 has been established. This international standard facilitates many application domains and is probably the richest multimedia metadata set available today. However, it does not yet exist a common query format, which communicates between client and databases and which supports cross- modal and cross-medial retrieval. Therefore the MPEG committee decided to contribute to this issue. This paper describes the current status of the standardization effort and shows the already implemented technology more in detail. The paper addresses page formats (both for PC and PDA/Smart-phone clients), template definition and format adoption, functional page structure (again for both PC and PDA/Smart-phones), content sources and usage, content combination and adaptation concluding with key formatting and usability rules. The primary focus is on the methodology required to define effective templates to address functional as well as presentational or language-related aspects. Such systems recommend items (movies, music, books, news, web pages, etc.) that the user should be interested in. These systems hold the promise of delivering high quality recommendations. However, the incredible growth of users and applications poses some challenges for recommender systems. One of the concerns for current recommenders is that the quality of recommendations is strongly dependant on the size of the user's population. In this paper we investigate, with the scaling of neighborhood size, the evolution of different recommendation techniques performance, the increase of the coverage, and the quality of prediction. We recognize two main factors inhibiting extensive data interoperability: one is the lack of \"Web of Data\" solutions allowing greater granular addressability and management of elementary data; another is the lack of suitable \"Web of Data\" infrastructural solutions providing the basis for the development of specific applications. We present InterDataNet (IDN) layered middleware architecture. IDN is based on the adoption of a shared Information Model (IDN-IM) and the management of such model operated by a Service Architecture (IDN- SA) providing collaboration-support functions. The InterDataNet name aims to put to evidence the goal of achieving interoperability among networks of data (interdataworking). IDN proposes itself to act as an interoperability application-independent middleware, supporting distributed information management to enhance interoperation and collaboration. However, there is a lack of tools that support the creation of standards-based annotations. We introduce an approach that lets users create annotations using simple diagrams with unconstrained linking and labelling and an architecture for formally interpreting them in an interactive process that matches the user input with formal ontologies based on information from the ontologies itself and general background knowledge. The interpretations can be used for reasoning tasks, such as querying and validation, and to guide the user in the further knowledge creation process. In this paper we discuss our experiences in implementing an operating system level DRM controller based on the GNU-Linux kernel. This paper investigates the feasibility of creating a transparent, application independent DRM controller and the performance implications thereof. Our investigation has revealed, that while a number of access control rules can be enforced transparently at the operating system level, there are also a number of rules that require application level enforcement. Thus, we recommend separation of rights to two levels of enforcement to take advantage of transparent enforcement at the kernel level. Our performance analysis shows promise with minimal user observable time impact for small files less than 25 MB in size. However, there is still a significant performance impact and a very noticeable user observable time performance impact for larger files. Copyright protection for online shops by customer identification watermarking, also called transaction watermarking, may be the most prominent example for this, offering an alternative to more restrictive digital rights management approaches. But in order to enable efficient transaction watermarking, a new challenge for applied algorithms arises: Besides the common requirements of transparency and robustness a very fast embedding strategy is necessary as otherwise users would face unacceptable delays before they can download their marked content. This can be addressed either by designing algorithms of very low complexity or by choosing suitable support mechanisms to speed up watermark embedding. The first approach is still an open challenge as watermarking algorithms of low complexity today fail to provide high robustness and transparency. However, the solutions differ and do not interoperate. The already completed ISO/IEC IS 15938, formally called the multimedia content description interface (better known as MPEG-7), provides a rich model for multimedia content description. We propose a unified query framework for multimedia repositories based on MPEG-7. The framework consists of a query language and a service interface. The query language is based on XML and includes four complementary parts defining a relational-like algebra, an expression language, an input query structure and the output response format.
