A fuzzy logic controller is designed for a trajectory following problem and a fuzzy logic decision mechanism is proposed for the trajectory planning with obstacles in a known environment. A car-like mobile robot system is developed to perform the implementation, where the vision system is set up to detect the working environment and obstacles. Both computer simulations and real-time experimental results demonstrate that the proposed fuzzy trajectory following and planning controller can successfully make the mobile robot online execute the trajectory following and planning problems even in an environment with obstacles.","PeriodicalId":358168,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Region 10 International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Technology. Workflow is the automation of procedures where documents, information or work is passed between several processing entities. Work contains activities with certain alms. Usually any work can be divided into smaller subworks. When the subworks have been executed, the original work is done. Each processing entity executes its own part before the work is passed onto the next processing entity. The paper focuses on the work database and two main engine modules. The modules are the work administrator and the user interface. The work administrator enables the engine to process the workflows. The user interface provides two-way communication between the engine and the processing entities. The engine enables the execution and scheduling of work by ensuring that it is conveyed to the appropriate entity during a suitable interval. The work database stores the work processing information. Initial results show that the prototype based on the design is capable of processing production-based workflow.","PeriodicalId":358168,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Region 10 International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Technology. The voltage stress of the full-bridge rectifier is equal to the DC bus voltage, but the AC power switch has a voltage rating of half the DC-link voltage. The control signals of the rectifier switches are derived from the voltage balance compensator, current controller and detected operation region of mains voltage. A novel PWM control scheme is proposed to draw a clean sinusoidal line current with high power factor. The three-level PWM pattern is generated on the AC terminal of the adopted rectifier converter by using the proposed control scheme. To verify the proposed operation strategy, performance characteristics are provided by computer simulations.","PeriodicalId":358168,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Region 10 International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Technology. The MBC 500 is a magnetic bearing system which includes an internal air turbine drive for a rotor that can reach a speed of /spl plusmn/10,000 RPM. In this paper, a project aiming to design and implement a speed controller for the air turbine is discussed. In order to design the speed controller, a model of the air turbine is identified using data collected in the frequency domain. Methods to overcome the difficulties encountered in system identification caused by the MATLAB /spl mu/-Analysis and Synthesis toolbox are addressed. The model obtained at a particular operating point using frequency response data is validated in the time domain. Since the system is nonlinear, a set of models has been obtained at different operating points and a nominal model is determined. The speed controller has been designed, on the basis of the nominal model, in both continuous and discrete time domains. The designed digital controller is implemented on a dSPACE DS1102 digital signal processor board and the controller designed in s-domain is implemented with an analogue circuit.","PeriodicalId":358168,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Region 10 International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Technology. The sliding mode control is used in the current control loop to achieve fast dynamics. Only the source currents are measured in the proposed control scheme to reduce the elements of current sensors needed in the conventional control approach. A simple proportional-integral controller is adopted in the voltage control loop to achieve slow dynamics. The proposed scheme can achieve high power factor, current harmonic elimination and reactive power compensation. A diode rectifier fed capacitive load as the nonlinear load is taken on the AC mains to demonstrate the effectiveness of the shunt active filter for reactive power and current harmonics compensation.","PeriodicalId":358168,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Region 10 International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Technology. In this study, the authors focus on the parametric analysis of a double mode resonant switched capacitor converter proposed by Cheng in 1998. Since there exists great performance differences between ideal model and real circuits, in this work the authors propose a modified model by adding the resistance of circuit components. The modified model is then employed to study the circuit performance with respect to the loading effect and the variation of circuit parameters. Simulation results were found to be nearly in accordance with Cheng's experiment. In the paper, the average output voltage is explicitly expressed in terms of the so-called live time ratio, which provides a means of regulating the converter's output voltage.","PeriodicalId":358168,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Region 10 International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Technology. The principal goal is to determine the ratio between the theoretical and the available transmission capacity of a two-wire line. The theoretical transmission capacity determines maximum error-free transmission, but in installed transmission systems there is always a certain acceptable error rate, which depends on the type of service. The available capacity of a two-wire line is therefore the real achievable transmission speed subject to certain limitations of a technological nature and subject to the type of service. In order to compare available capacity we selected several hypothetical models of a transmission system: coded and uncoded multicarrier and baseband transmission, and uncoded transmission with a simple two-level line code.","PeriodicalId":358168,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Region 10 International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Technology. For optimum noise performance, the CMOS transistor layout and bias condition are analyzed and discussed. In this paper along with the noise optimum condition, a linearity improvement technique for a cascaded LNA is presented. The LNA for mobile applications should satisfy the noise, linearity and gain performance under the current consumption constraint. If an LNA is designed with more than a two stage structure, then the first stage MOS ought to be optimized for low noise performance in terms of the bias condition and its size because the first stage MOS is the dominant noise contributor of all the cascade stage. The last stage is constructed for linearity optimization, because the last stage linearity is influential for a cascaded LNA.","PeriodicalId":358168,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Region 10 International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Technology. The method starts with an arbitrary template. An index called gray-scale image entropy (GIE) is employed to measure the degree of resemblance between the template and the underlying true scene that gives rise to the gray-scale image. The classification status of a block of pixels in the template is modified in a way to maximize the GIE. By repeatedly processing all blocks of pixels until a termination condition is met, the template would be changed to a configuration that closely resembles the true scene. This optimum template (in an entropy sense) is taken to be the desired segmented image. Investigation results from simulation study and the segmentation of practical images demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":358168,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Region 10 International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Technology.
