We categorise given political movements on the basis of relevant theoretical concepts (nativism, populism, authoritarianism) and then analyse spatial patterns of their electoral support to examine the geographical aspects of party replacement. We found substantial differences in the electoral outcomes of the old and the new populist radical right. Nevertheless, we have also observed a considerable convergence of spatial voting patterns between SPR-RSČ and SPD in the latest elections, which suggests a tendency that might prove to be more significant in the future. The main result of this study is the identification of specific places, which, along the contemporary literature nexus, we refer to as “places that are left behind or do not matter”. Such initial recognition might prove vital if we wish to understand places theoretically filled with discontent and resentment that potentially use voting as an act of revolt against the malleably perceived ‘Other’.","PeriodicalId":35714,"journal":{"name":"Geografie-Sbornik CGS","volume":"34 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77594331","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper analyses texts using the deconstruction method. The selected texts come from authors interested in human geography or the theory of geography. This study focuses on the period from the establishment of the first Department of Geography at Masaryk University to the turn of the millennium, which brought a significant personnel and institutional break. The article identifies three crucial developmental phases. The first of these phases concerns the interwar period, which was characterised by the emancipation of human geography as a distinct discipline, particularly with regard to settlement/urban geography. The following phase was characterised in particular by its emphasis on calculable objective space and also by the Marxist ideological background that formed the basis of economic geography. The last of the described phases is characterised by the decentralisation of academic geography in Brno and its epistemological differentiation. The result is a comprehensive view of the long-term development of geographic thought at Brno institutions.","PeriodicalId":35714,"journal":{"name":"Geografie-Sbornik CGS","volume":"51 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81834609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its main goals are to shed light on and understand the role of social interactions in the development activities of individual municipalities in border-region peripheries and reveal the spatial differentiation of these municipalities. The borderland Cheb district (western Bohemia) is affected by the shrinkage process, and the concept of institutional thickness is used as the explanatory framework. One of the key conclusions is that the more disadvantages there are, the more important institutional thickness is as a development factor. The research data are drawn from 24 semi-structured interviews with the mayors of municipalities that within the system of state administration are municipalities without extended powers. The research also confirmed the diversity of individuals holding the position of mayor and the differences in the specific role mayors play in local development, as well as how important it is for municipalities to be active in microregional associations. It also showed that the internal differentiation of development opportunities and the formation of formal and informal ties are also determined by the quality of horizontal and vertical cooperation.","PeriodicalId":35714,"journal":{"name":"Geografie-Sbornik CGS","volume":"21 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84911926","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moldovans in Prague, Czechia, and Turin, Italy, and communications with their families and peers in Moldova are studied using our own survey data (from 2017/2018 – N = 203 in Prague and N = 206 in Turin, factor analysis used). We argue that there is a close relationship between interpersonal communication topics (while themes linked to everyday activities dominate over serious broader structural and institutional domestic or “global issues”) and real social remittances. Particular communication topics have their typical bearers in relation to age, gender, and education. The geographical context matters. Prague attracted Moldovans who stay abroad for a shorter time and are less educated, less integrated, and more transnational than those in Turin. Hence, Prague Moldovans communicate more and also transfer more social remittances. However, the overall impact of these social remittances upon Moldova is small.","PeriodicalId":35714,"journal":{"name":"Geografie-Sbornik CGS","volume":"125 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82591866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper aims to study the performance of rural accommodation businesses by assessing their environmental and health attitudes. Data on environmental and health measures and business performance perceptions were collected through a questionnaire completed by 1,794 managers, the largest dataset to date for rural tourism. A PLS-SEM model and Importance- Performance Analysis (IPMA) were run to assess both dimensions towards these businesses’ resilience. The main findings were that (1) environmental dimensions were relegated by COVID-19 ones affecting resilience and (2) the fulfilment of hygiene protocols and measures by guests and businesses were crucial in business resilience. The IPMA also allows informed decision-making by identifying relative importance and performance, supporting the PLS-SEM conclusions. In conclusion, the recent situation might have benefited rural tourism businesses thanks to their resilience and might be a chance to tackle rural tourism seasonality.","PeriodicalId":35714,"journal":{"name":"Geografie-Sbornik CGS","volume":"24 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87276953","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis is based on economic performance indicators from the 300 largest companies in Czechia based on turnover from 2014 to 2019. However, the hypothesized pattern of value capture was not confirmed in the case of foreign-owned companies. This finding suggests that an important role is played by the mandates multinationals assign to their national branches. The analysis also showed that companies operating in the service sector, broadly conceived, tend to capture less value than manufacturing firms. Finally, companies in both the manufacturing and service sector with access to the end market tend to capture greater value than companies without such access. Overall, our empirical analysis of value captured demonstrates that the assumption of a straightforward relationship between company position within a global value chain or global production network and value capture can be overly simplistic.","PeriodicalId":35714,"journal":{"name":"Geografie-Sbornik CGS","volume":"10 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86660807","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This quantitatively oriented study tries to answer the question: In what way are the results of the district round of the Geography Olympiad as a competition for students gifted in geography spatially differentiated? To answer the research question, we analysed the overall results of the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 competitions, while primarily focusing on the differences in the success rate between regions. The results of the analysis showed significant differences between the regions of Czechia, and within some districts, especially the Plzeň and Pardubice Regions, as well as significant differences between districts. On the other hand, within other regions, for example, the Ústí nad Labem, Karlovy Vary, and Liberec Regions, no statistically significant differences were identified.","PeriodicalId":35714,"journal":{"name":"Geografie-Sbornik CGS","volume":"34 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87774043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper aims to narrow this gap by using a common theoretical framework to disclose the properties of spaces produced by both types of food systems. The theoretical tools used are Lefebvre’s spatial dialectic and Foucauldian analysis of discipline and governmentality. The results indicate constitutive differences in the nature of both types of spaces: while the conventional food system produces standardized relations and spaces, taking away attention from the food itself to other aspects of its sale and supressing knowledge about food provenance and ways of preparation, the diverse spaces of non-market production are shaped around the quality and “taste” of food. This means that the way out of the crisis-laden conventional food system may lead not only through frugality but also through the cultivation of “taste”, that is, the human interest to eat good food, whose taste includes the knowledge of ecological and social relations and cultures producing the spaces of food.","PeriodicalId":35714,"journal":{"name":"Geografie-Sbornik CGS","volume":"66 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72414542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, right-wing and left-wing populist parties try to evoke these emotions in their potential voters. This article investigates the impact of nostalgia and grievances that populist parties try to induce in their voters in peripheral regions and thus influence the choice of a political party. Thirteen semi-structured interviews were conducted with inhabitants of the Bruntál district, which is characterised by above-average support for populist parties. According to the analysis, support for the left-wing Communist Party was influenced by nostalgia for the socialist regime, especially among the older population. Post-socialist nostalgia also appeared among younger residents if they had an elderly family member who benefited from the past regime. In contrast, economic deprivation, grievances with the central government, and the possible and actual consequences of the migration crisis have increased the attraction of the populist radical right in the region.","PeriodicalId":35714,"journal":{"name":"Geografie-Sbornik CGS","volume":"29 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77104835","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They materialize social discourse and national values that change over time. The social relationship to memorials shapes their symbolism, which is a part of the political symbolic space. The aim of the article is to determine how memorials are involved in this symbolic space (how memorials from various eras are distributed in Prague, which localities might have symbolic connotations, and how this symbolism can be interpreted). Free-standing memorials in the public space of Greater Prague have been included in the research, demonstrating different spatial patterns and symbolism. While the most dominant memorials, dedicated to figures associated with the Czech National Revival, are concentrated in the city center, war memorials, the most common type of memorial, are scattered evenly throughout the city. The reinterpretation of historical events and memorials after the fall of Communism has created conflicting sites of memory, which relate to current Czech-Russian relations and the aftermath of the historical Czech-German national conflict.","PeriodicalId":35714,"journal":{"name":"Geografie-Sbornik CGS","volume":"8 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81401576","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
