Nevertheless, this comes with tightened performance requirements, such as reduced noise and dispersion tolerance, which will reduce any available margins. Applying new modulation formats is a route to mitigate this effect. This paper discusses the technical challenges for carrying out upgrades, either as overlays or on dark fibres, and also presents recent research results on how to add capacity to systems currently operating with Ntimes10.7 Gbit/s RZ-ASK signals over transoceanic distances. Experiments and simulations are used to analyse performance and limitations, with 20 Gbit/s RZ-DPSK being a strong candidate for upgrades","PeriodicalId":356070,"journal":{"name":"2006 Asian Optical Fiber Communication & Optoelectronic Exposition & Conference","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128360348","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Optical burst switching (OBS) is thought to be the best way to adapt the bursty traffic, and can be statistically using the optical resources, so that OBS based transparent optical network attracting more and more attentions. However, the precondition of most of the OBS networking solution is based on wavelength conversion, which is limited by the nonlinear of materials. We proposed a novel networking policy by using dual fiber links server model along with traffic spacing mechanism (TSM) by address differentiation, the transmitting IP directly in optical domain for traffic data between physically adjacent nodes, with no necessary burst assembling (NABAN). The theoretical results show that this method can improve network performance and be practically used in fields","PeriodicalId":356070,"journal":{"name":"2006 Asian Optical Fiber Communication & Optoelectronic Exposition & Conference","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123893762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dichotomy combining the Lagrange-multiplier method is the optimal bit allocation algorithm to estimate the value of lambda. That algorithm has a good convergence in general, but it becomes very low when the target lambda is far from the center of the estimating interval of lambda. Good agreement is obtained between theoretical analysis by transfer-matrix method derived from coupled mode theory in time and simulation experiments. Furthermore, phase response of the reflection filter is investigated to analyze the transmission of pulses when applied to optical transmission system by transfer-matrix method.
