Especially erythrocyte concentrate, thrombocyte concentrate and fresh frozen plasma are the most preferred blood components. In addition to its known benefits, it should not be forgotten that blood transfusions can cause side effects and cause undesirable clinical pictures. Correct indication is very important in transfusion decisions. In addition, patient-specific factors (age, diagnosis, comorbidity), laboratory findings (Hemoglobin value, platelet count, coagulation tests), presence of coagulopathy and known physiological factors (oxygen requirement and hemodynamic status) should also be taken into account when making this decision. Indications for use of blood for transfusion started to change with the patient blood management project. It is not possible to completely avoid transfusion with patient blood management (PBM) applications, but the current consumption can be greatly reduced and costs can be reduced side effects can be prevented","PeriodicalId":35553,"journal":{"name":"Turk hijiyen ve deneysel biyoloji dergisi. Forensic microbiologist can use trace evidence to match people to crime scenes, to investigate bioterrorism incidents, and to determine cause and time of death. In recent years, important studies on the environmental microbiota have been carried out. These studies can be associated with many legally valuable data as well as being related to the microbiota of environmental events. Actinobacteria are gram-positive micelle bacteria with enormous diversity, common in soil, and have high economic value. So far 47 families and 711 species of Actinobacteria were isolated and identified in variety of habitats. Increasing forensic studies in recent years show that microbial profiles can be used as evidence. On the other hand, its deficiency is very common and its treatment is of great importance due to its multisystem effects. In addition to factors affecting vitamin D levels such as skin color, sunscreen used, geographical location, and obesity, there are also studies related to the effect of skin thickness. It was aimed to determine the effect of skin thickness and subcutaneous adipose tissue measurements on vitamin D results in the areas where there is the most contact with the sunlight in our body, in the study. Methods: A total of 116 (71 female, 45 male) volunteers were included in the study. The results of vitamin D in the last month, demographic data, height, and weight were recorded. Skin thickness and subcutaneous adipose tissue measurements performed by ultrasound were recorded from the forehead, cheek, hand dorsum, umbilicus, and trochanter major regions. Results: The exposure time to the sun (r=0.637, p<0.001), the statistically significant difference between the results of the trochanter major subcutaneous adipose tissue (r=0.347, p<0.001) and subcutaneous adipose","PeriodicalId":35553,"journal":{"name":"Turk hijiyen ve deneysel biyoloji dergisi. With the Health Transformation Program, there has been an increase in the amount and quality of the service provided throughout the country. In addition, there has been a decrease in the inequalities between regions due to its implementation. In order to ensure continuity in health service delivery, health service activities in provinces and regions should be followed regularly, and their performance should be evaluated. Methods: The study calculated Data Envelopment Analysis efficiencies and Cross-efficiency for 26 subregions in the NUTS-II classification in Turkey. The number of hospital beds and primary care units were the inputs of the research; the number of primary, secondary and tertiary care visits and the number of inpatients are also the output of the study. Subregions are reordered and grouped according to their cross-efficiency. Decision-making units with unusual production structures were investigated by calculating Maverick Index scores.","PeriodicalId":35553,"journal":{"name":"Turk hijiyen ve deneysel biyoloji dergisi. Exposure to insecticides may induce hematoxicity. This research is appertaining to the possible property of ferulic acid, utilized as nutritional supplement, to mitigate oxidative stress process caused via dimethoate. Methods: Male Wistar rats were divided into six groups, randomly (six animal each). Animals were treated orally via gavage with ferulic acid (30 mg/kg body weight, everyday for 28 days) prior to treatment of low or high doses of dimethoate (3 mg/kg body weight, everyday for 28 days 1/100 LD50 and 30 mg/ kg body weight, everyday for 4 weeks 1/10 LD50, respectively). Results: Exposuring rats to dimethoate for 4 weeks contributed oxidative stress process with a rise in malondialdehyde levels of rats’ erythrocytes. Also, treatment of dimethoate induced alterations in antioxidant defence system of erythrocytes replaced these chemicals in agricultural control. The present findings indicate that ferulic acid may amelierate dimethoate-caused oxidative stress process and DNA damage by altering antioxidant defense system and decreasing lipid peroxidation","PeriodicalId":35553,"journal":{"name":"Turk hijiyen ve deneysel biyoloji dergisi. {"title":"Evaluation of two SARS-CoV-2 lateral flow antibody kits for serological diagnosis of COVID-19","authors":"D. Altun, Y. Coşgun, Hakan Farzin Mehmetzade, Fatma Gülay Korukluoğlu","doi":"10.5505/turkhijyen.2022.34966","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5505/turkhijyen.2022.34966","url":null,"abstract":"Objective: The emergence of new SARS-CoV-2 has prompted the development of new serological tests that could be complementary to RT-PCR. Serological tests can also be used for purposes such as demonstrating the presence of antibodies in individuals who have had the disease, contact screening, screening of healthcare professionals, monitoring of vaccine responses, detection of antibody levels of plasma donors, and determination of seroprevalence in risky groups. For this purpose, different methods such as ELISA, CLIA or rapid antibody detection tests are used. LFIA tests are fast, easy to apply, do not require experience, and are cheap tests that give a result in as little as 10 minutes. However, the clinical performance of existing serological tests used in diagnosis needs to be evaluated. The aim of this study was to assess the performance of two immunological tests for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. Methods: As a positive serum panel, 101 serum samples from patients confirmed by SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR test and also found antibody positive by ELISA test were included in the study. As the negative serum panel, 30 serum samples were determined, including 11 serum samples with antibodies against viruses other than SARS-CoV-2, and 19 serum samples from healthy donors in 2019. First, SARS-CoV-2 antibodies were tested by ELISA (Wantai, China) and than these serum samples were tested simultaneously with the SureScreen COVID-19 IgG/IgM Rapid Test Cassette and YHLO Gline 2019 nCov IgG/IgM kits. Results: The SureScreen and YHLO Gline kits showed an overall sensitivity of 86.1% and 75.3%, for detecting IgG and/or IgM, respectively. Specificity was 100% in both rapid antibody tests. The kappa value for IgG of the two rapid antibody tests was 0.816, while it was 0.695 for IgM. Conclusion: Our study shows that SureScreen and YHLO Gline are reliable kits for use as point-of-care tests for rapid antibody detection. According to Cohen's kappa statistics the 91% (ϰ=0.816) agreement between SureScreen IgG and YHLO Gline IgG, \"Almost Perfect”, and 85% agreement (ϰ=0.695) between SureScreen IgM and YHLO Gline IgM, \"Substantial”, indicate a good correlation between the performance of the LFIAs used in the study. Total antibody conformity was determined as 92% (ϰ=0.822), \"Almost Perfect”. Agreement between IgM tests was lower than that between IgG tests. © 2022,Turk Hijyen ve Deneysel Biyoloji Dergisi,All rights reserved","PeriodicalId":35553,"journal":{"name":"Turk hijiyen ve deneysel biyoloji dergisi.
