The Short-beaked Echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus Shaw, 1792) and the Northern Brown Bandicoot (Isoodon macrourus Gould, 1842) are reported here occurring on Mua (Moa Island). (Digenea: Faustulidae) is described from the intestine of Chaetodontoplus meredithi (Perciformes: Pomacanthidae) from the southern Great Barrier Reef. The new species is distinguished by its elongate, spindle-shaped body and vitellarium which forms separate groups at the level of the anterior and posterior ends of the cirrus-sac. Three new species are added to the fauna: H. leichhardti sp. nov, H. malipatili sp. nov. and H. spatulatus sp. nov. Hishimonus diffractus Dai & Fletcher, is recorded from Australia for the first time and H. passiflorae (Evans) is redescribed. H. melaleucae (Kirkaldy) is excluded from the genus. A key for the determination of the Australian species of Hishimonus is provided. Bartholomai","doi":"10.17082/j.2204-1478.58.2013.2013-09","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.17082/j.2204-1478.58.2013.2013-09","url":null,"abstract":"Descriptions of Marathonichthys coyleorum gen. et sp. nov. and Stewartichthys leichhardti gen. et sp. nov. add to the recognised diversity of the Lower Cretaceous (Late Albian) fish fauna of the marine Toolebuc Formation of the Eromanga Basin, Queensland, Australia. Both taxa are referrable to the elopomorph Order Albuliformes. The new taxa are morphologically distinct from both extant and fossil albulids by having their subepiotic and subtemporal fossae poorly developed and in exhibiting separation or apparently partial separation of the parietals by dorsal development of the supraoccipital. The parietal in Stewartichthys is triradiate. Coarse ornamentation of the dorsal neurocranial roof and its much shallower and broader otic region separates M. coyleorum from S. leichhardti. Euroka dunravenensis Bartholomai, 2010, also from the Toolebuc Formation, is much larger than either of the new taxa and has its parasphenoid broadened, much shortened posteriorly and anteriorly complex. It is distinguished from its three congeners by a combination of mostly smooth skin with minute, sparsely distributed velvety scales, long snout, narrow head and body, slightly notched predorsal profile, low anal-fin ray and lateral-line tube count, and distinctive configuration of the interorbital ridges (interorbital ridges not prominently sculptured, converging anteriorly to form an inverted Y shape, the symphysis above a vertical from the middle of the eye, and continuing as a single ridge to the base of the first dorsal-fin spine). The species appears to be rare and possibly endemic to the waters of the Gulf of Carpentaria.
