Shunt reactor de-energization can result in voltage surges and instability due to current chopping effects. The study utilizes simulation models using ATP-Draw software to assess the effectiveness of grading capacitors in mitigating TRV under various operating conditions as well as of using a proposed method to mitigate the excessive TRV across the circuit breaker. The findings provide valuable insights into managing TRV during shunt reactor switching, enhancing power system stability and reliability. The results obtained showed that the TRV across the circuit breaker decreased by 61.5% by using circuit modification as well as adding a grading capacitor.","PeriodicalId":355274,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Power Electronics and Drive Systems (IJPEDS)","volume":"18 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141235653","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A lot of techniques involving MPPTs have been investigated, evolved and proposed by researchers. But those techniques have got some advantages and suffer from limitation to some extent. The gravity of limitations varies from case to case. In current work, it has been investigated the MPPT based Boost Converter without and with MPPT which is perturb and observe (P&O) type. After observing its limitation, this method of MPPT is modified so as to make it suitable for extracting the maximum power from PV unit at all different load conductance’s. In order to validate this concept, the mathematical model is developed using a MATLAB/Simulink environment and this Modified MPPT technique is implemented. The whole model is simulated and compared with conventional method. This concept is quite new and the proposed one exhibits better performance as compared to conventional methods.","PeriodicalId":355274,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Power Electronics and Drive Systems (IJPEDS)","volume":"12 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141235207","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These renewable power sources based DGs could eliminate the need of extensive transmission networks, especially in remote areas, reduce emissions and improve power supply reliability. A significant drawback of grid integrated DG systems is the islanding of DG units, which puts workers' safety at risk and raises the possibility of damaging electrical infrastructure. Therefore, islanding detection techniques are used to reduce the danger associated with islanded functioning of DG units. Fast detection, small non detection area and less power quality disturbance are the major requirements of any islanding detection method. To address this issue of islanding, researchers have proposed various islanding detection strategies. This paper compares various q-axis controller-based islanding identification approaches: sub-harmonic perturbation (SHP), complementary reactive power perturbation (CRPP), and even harmonic perturbation (EHP). In all three proposed methodologies, the perturbations introduced result in frequency deviations surpassing the predefined threshold values. But the time of islanding detection is least in the CRPP approach. CRPP can also drift the total harmonic distortion (THD) beyond the corresponding threshold in an appreciable way. The performance of these (Islanding detection methods) IDMs is evaluated through simulations using MATLAB-Simulink on a PV fed DG. The efficacy of the comparative analysis is ensured with necessary waveforms.","PeriodicalId":355274,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Power Electronics and Drive Systems (IJPEDS)","volume":"5 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141229020","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A modified unit vector template control scheme is used to generate a reference load voltage signal, and a synchronous reference frame (SRF) is created using a low-pass filter to control UPQC. Furthermore, the PVA is interfaced with the grid through a common DC link of shunt and series converters. The series converter mitigates power quality problems allied with the grid side, such as 3rd, 5th, and 7th harmonics, voltage sag, and voltage swell, by introducing signals in phase and out of phase voltage, respectively, at the point of common coupling (PCC). The shunt converter mitigates nonlinear load current harmonics and compensates for reactive power using SRF. The suggested methodology is implemented using MATLAB Simulink with both linear and nonlinear loads under different power quality conditions. Total harmonic distortions are maintained below 5% at PCC, as per IEEE-519 standards.","PeriodicalId":355274,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Power Electronics and Drive Systems (IJPEDS)","volume":"47 23","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140085768","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To control the operation of non-linear motor, a precise modelling of magnetic characteristic is essential. Traditionally magnetic equivalent circuit, finite element method (FEM) and experimental approaches have been used to derive magnetic characteristics of SRM. These methods involve complex computational steps and numerous assumptions for its calculations. To avoid this complexity, a simple approach is suggested in this paper to compute magnetic characteristics of 4-phase SRM. In this approach, SRM phase inductance is measured directly to identify the location of rotor with respect to stator from unaligned to aligned position. Then, single phase of SRM is excited through asymmetric converter and voltage and currents of corresponding phase is recorded with rotor being blocked using indexing head. Later recorded values are used to compute the magnetic characteristics from unaligned to aligned position. The proposed method is carried out using field programmable gate array (FPGA) controlled 8/6, 4-phase SRM. Further, accuracy of obtained magnetic characteristic is verified using FEM. In addition, fidelity of the magnetic characteristic is also validated by developing a dynamic model of SRM in MATLAB/Simulink","PeriodicalId":355274,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Power Electronics and Drive Systems (IJPEDS)","volume":"116 42","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140088301","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The determination of the minimum capacitance required for the self-excitation of a self-excited induction generator has already been the subject of several previous studies. It has been shown that the minimum capacitance depends on the rotation speed and the remanent magnetism. The study carried out in this paper shows that, in addition to the rotation speed and the remanent magnetism, there is a third parameter that has an influence on the self-excitation process, which is the acceleration or, in other words, the rotation speed ramp-up. In this paper, several experimental self-excitation tests for different values of the rotation speed ramp-up are carried out, leading to new characteristics of the minimum self-excitation capacitance as a function of the rotation speed. The results obtained from simulation and experimental studies prove the efficacy of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":355274,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Power Electronics and Drive Systems (IJPEDS)","volume":"119 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140088342","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Performance degradation takes place due to several reasons such as material degradation following dust accumulation, high temperature, and humidity. Also, mismatch of electric power parameters such as increasing loads above projected values of the plant. Therefore, this paper analyses and studies the degradation in four phases. First, the visual inspection detects the degradation of materials and defects such as the presence of dust, cracks, browning (discoloration), and connection corrosion. The second phase proposes a mathematical model to calculate the early degradation rate (DR) of different components, such as short circuit current (Isc), open circuit voltage (VOC), the maximum yield power (Pmax), and the fill factor (FF) of the PV module. The third phase is a MATLAB modeling of the measured real-time data of the operating PV system to test Power versus voltage curves (with and without degradation) to examine the presence of failure of PV modules. Finally, compare the evolution of real-time production data for three measured years (2015, 2016, and 2017) with the simulation curves of this study.","PeriodicalId":355274,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Power Electronics and Drive Systems (IJPEDS)","volume":"110 28","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140088786","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data is used to evaluate X, Y, and Z axes and map motor waves under normal and abnormal conditions. This study is expected to compare the effectiveness of the observation method from three different axes at the same motor condition to be further helpful in repairing induction motor damage caused by the circuit. From the results of the study, it shows that the harmonic value of the stator current will be more effective than the Y axis with a harmonic amplitude value of -38.8 dB, higher than the harmonic value of the current on the X axis with a difference of 33.89 dB and a difference of 0.32 dB from the Z axis. Suppose the disturbance is measured from the stray harmonic value. In that case, the flux will be more effective than the X axis with a harmonic amplitude value - 25.27 dB, higher than the harmonic value of the flux on the Y axis with a difference of 6.425 and a difference of 4.85 dB from the Z axis.","PeriodicalId":355274,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Power Electronics and Drive Systems (IJPEDS)","volume":"119 25","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140090483","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
