With a persistent prolongation of the recent technical development path, these challenges cannot be mastered in future. Therefore, it is necessary to put the plant cultivation system as well as the for operational design necessary processes \u0000under close scrutiny to achieve the demanded sustainable intensification of agricultural production. Against this backdrop, this requirement profile for a plant production in the future is defined, the resultant challenges formulated and individual aspects of an alternative production system are considered how, with the help of modern techniques, new alternatives in plant \u0000production can be explored. The focus therefore is first of all to satisfy the basic necessities of cultivated plants together with superordinate requirements and restriction particularly with regard to structures. This will provide the basis for the required process technologies for a site-specific farm management. Therefore it was the objective to develop a novel bio filter system which was able to ensure a high and long-lasting ammonia separation. This novel bio filter, which is equipped with a pH control in a water swamp beneath the filter layer and a conductivity control for water discharge, was investigated in terms of ammonia separation and nitrogen disposition over several months under practical conditions. Lammers","doi":"10.15150/lt.2017.3154","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.15150/lt.2017.3154","url":null,"abstract":"Due to the criticism of the intensive cultivation of maize in Germany as well as the problem of more frequently occurring pests in crop rotation sugar beet has been used successfully as a substrate for biogas plants in recent years. Varieties with a high sugar yield proved to be particularly suitable. However, sugar beet has to be conserved and stored in order to integrate it into the process of biogas production throughout the entire year. Neither the success of conservation nor potential losses over the storage period have been documented so far. Batch tests have been used to investigate the course of conservation, watching the pH value and the losses while ensiling twelve different sugar beet varieties. The sugar beets were ensilaged as pulp under anaerobic conditions in a fourfold repetition for 90 days. In all variants, an almost parallel development of the pH value was observed. Although there were significant differences between the pH values of the different variants all pH values were sufficiently low to ensure safe conservation. Losses of methane forming potential after 90 days of storage fluctuated between approximately 10 and 20%. Alcoholic fermentation was identified as the reason for these losses. The results show that ensiling of different sugar beet varieties can be achieved quickly and safely. In der Tierernahrung ist die In-Sacco-Methode eine anerkannte Methode, die zur Ermittlung der Verdaulichkeit verschiedener Futtermittelbestandteile dient. Die Verdaulichkeit und die Geschwindigkeit des Abbaus der Pflanzeninhaltsstoffe und Gerustsubstanzen im anaeroben Abbauprozess in Biogasanlagen sind wichtige Parameter, die mit den gangigen Methoden zur Biogaspotenzialbestimmung nicht untersucht werden konnen. Fur die Prozessoptimierung spielt diese Kenntnis allerdings eine wichtige Rolle. Deswegen wurde die In-Sacco-Methode fur den Einsatz in den fur die Biogaspotenzialbestimmung genutzten Systemen adaptiert und weiterentwickelt. Mithilfe dieser Methode kann die Wirkung verschiedener Prozesshilfsstoffe untersucht werden, die in Biogasanlagen eingesetzt werden. Der Einsatz von Eisenpraparaten zur internen chemischen Entschwefelung bietet die Vorteile der substratbezogenen Dosierung sowie der Vermeidung von Prozessbeeintrachtigungen und Korrosion gasberuhrender Fermenterbauteile. Bislang wurden Eisenpraparate jedoch haufig nur anhand des Eisengehaltes eingesetzt, ohne die chemischen und physikalischen Eigenschaften der Praparate zu berucksichtigen. Um genau diesem Ansatz nachzugehen, wurden pulverformige Eisenpraparate unterschiedlicher chemischer Zusammensetzung und Korngrose als Zuschlagsstoffe in Biogasreaktoren im Labormasstab verglichen und die Wirkung in Abhangigkeit von Prozessparametern wie Hydrodynamik und Verweilzeit untersucht. Im Ergebnis der Forschung konnen nun zielgerichtete Aussagen dazu getroffen werden, welches Eisenpraparat in Abhangigkeit von den vorliegenden Prozessparametern am besten geeignet ist, um eine optimale Entschwefelung zu gewahrleisten. Der Vergleich zwischen reinen Eisen(III)-oxiden und Eisen(III)-hydroxid-Praparaten zeigte beispielsweise bei geringen Verweilzeiten von 8 Tagen einen deutlich besseren Entschwefelungseffekt der eisenhydroxidbasierten Produkte. The formation of foam entails a significant risk of damage to biogas plants, as gas pipes can become blocked. For this reason, foaming tests have been conducted to investigate which measures lead to reductions in foam development. It was found that generally available fertilizers such as urea, ammonium nitrate and calcium cyanamide have a foam-reducing effect. However, batch fermentation tests showed inhibition of biogas production at higher concentrations of these substances, which means that they should be used with care. Die Optimierung der Kistengestaltung und der Stapelabstande in den Kuhlraumen sowie eine auf der Luftstromung in Produktnahe basierende Regelung der Ventilatoren bietet ein erhebliches Energieeinsparpotenzial. Dazu wurden die Luftstromungsbedingungen in einem praxisublichen Apfel- und Weiskohllager mit gangiger Luftrate und dichter Kistenstapelung mit einem CFD-Modell und experimentell untersucht. Die numerischen Ergebnisse zeigten eine qualitativ gute Ubereinstimmung mit den gemessenen Stromungsprofilen. In beiden Lagerraumen hat sich eine Luftwalze eingestellt, wobei Bereiche mit hohen und niedrigen Luftgeschwindigkeiten gezeigt werden konnten. Thereby, biogas plants represent a promising option to produce demand-driven energy to compensate differences between energy demand and energy supply caused by irregular sources (e. g. wind and solar). The contribution focuses on the economic assessment of the flexible biogas production by specific feeding in comparison to continuous gas production against the background of a flexible conversion of biogas into electrical power. The required additional demand for gas storage capacity of a model biogas plant is determined by combinations of different feeding regimes and by three optimised power generation schedules. Subsequently, a cost-benefit analysis is conducted to assess the substrate management economically. The developed methodology is especially designed for existing plants and is used for assessing a multi-factorial substrate management as flexibility option. The results show that substrate management is increasingly appropriate to reduce the additional demand for gas storage especially for longer-term planning horizons (above 12 h) regarding schedule organisation. Based on this analysis, reference values for average methane yields per crop species and position within the crop rotation, cutting regime, range of dry matter content, or stage of growth at harvest have been deduced for 93 different crop biomasses.
