It should also be easy to tune accurately, have a wide dynamic input signal range, be insensitive to interference and have low intermodulation distortion. Building such an RF section with conventional architecture and traditional circuitry requires a lot of electronic and electro-mechanical components. This, of course, leads to reduced reliability due to component ageing, distortion caused by the influence of variable-capacitance tuning diodes and increased cost. This presentation evaluates these problems and describes how they can be solved with particular emphasis on portable short-wave radios.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":355209,"journal":{"name":"International 1989 Conference on Consumer Electronics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116966330","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current television receivers have various drawbacks: interface called 'cross luminance' and 'cross color' due to imperfect Y/C separation, 'line crawling' interference, 'line flicker' due to 2:1 interlaced scanning method, and deterioration of vertical resolution. In order to reduce interference, digital TV receivers such as EDTV receivers perform motion adaptive Y/C separation and motion adaptive scanning interpolation. The key factors to improve picture quality are the precision in the motion detector and detection of the nonstandard signals. If motion and the nonstandard signals are not detected correctly, it is difficult to improve picture quality. This paper describes the motion detector and nonstandard signal detector that play the most important role in this new television receiver set for EDTV.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":355209,"journal":{"name":"International 1989 Conference on Consumer Electronics","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115509365","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Future IDTV, EDTV and HDTV colour TV-receivers are characterized by higher line frequencies (up to 62 kHz) and a wide aspect ratio (16:9). Direct view CRT's will feature an almost flat screen and a large deflection angle. Due to the short fly-back time, sawtooth line deflection results in high energy losses, higher radiation problems and higher costs.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":355209,"journal":{"name":"International 1989 Conference on Consumer Electronics","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124423691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
