Only randomized clinical trials (RCGTs) and prospective controlled clinical trials (CCTs) showing direct comparison between the definitive implant abutments and multiple abutment replacements in the same patient or different patient groups in the partially edentulous patients were considered. The outcome measures were (1) the type of the abutment was used, (2) the time the abutment was placed, (3) marginal bone loss changes, (4) biological complications, (5) mechanical complications.

Results: After evaluation, 4 controlled clinical studies were included. Majority of the articles reveled protective marginal bone loss preservation for the implants with FAP (final abutment placement) at the time of implant placement compared with the implants with MAP (multiple abutment placements) in connected dental implants, in partially edentulous patients. Meta-analysis of the four studies with 280 implants reviled significantly greater bone loss in cases with multiple abutment disconnections/reconnections. The weighted mean difference in marginal bone loss was 0.4 mm (95% confidence interval, 0.16-0.63 mm), showing bone preservation in the FAP group.

Conclusion: Within the limitations of this meta-analysis, multiple abutments disconnections significantly affected marginal bone loss changes in partially edentulous patients. {"title":"Peripheral ossifying fibroma: A case report.","authors":"Jakub Mokrysz, Zuzanna Nowak, Maciej Chęciński","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

Peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF) is a reactive lesion that originates in the gingiva. Morphological similarity to other epulides and similar nomenclature to neoplastic tumors give rise to obvious problems both at the stage of diagnosis and treatment of POF. Although POF is one of the less common gingival lesions, it accounts for up to 2% of all oral lesions, which means that most general dentists will encounter POF in their practice. This paper aims to present the case of a 56-year-old woman diagnosed with POF. In the described case, POF most likely resulted from chronic periodontal irritation due to the presence of prosthetic crowns. The applied treatment in the form of total excision of POF, removal of irritants and gingivoplasty brought the expected therapeutic effect, i.e. no recurrence in the period of the hitherto follow-up. Terminological difficulties, the basics of differentiating typical gingival tumors, therapeutic options with suggested management of POF, and recurrence rate with the follow-up scheme were discussed. Despite the reactive nature of POF, this lesion recurs up to 20% and can transform to giant POF. For this reason, POF should not be underestimated, and proper diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up are critical to the success of therapy.
","PeriodicalId":35508,"journal":{"name":"Stomatologija","volume":"23 2","pages":"56-60"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"39421438","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this article was to highlight an unusual case of protracted postoperative bleeding that was occurred due to a FOM injury during an attempt to extract a mandibular second molar. Various anatomical considerations with clinical relevance were summarized too. Even small and superficial injuries of FOM should be not misjudged but be carefully monitored, since there is a potential risk for significant haemorrhage and hematoma formation leading to airway obstruction.
","PeriodicalId":35508,"journal":{"name":"Stomatologija","volume":"23 2","pages":"51-55"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"39421437","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Overloads and/or altered distributions of the stresses on the temporomandibular joint, teeth and bones may therefore result with not clearly understood consequences. In the present case report a new tool -Vertical Tester- designed to manage the 3D vertical occlusion during an implant retained full mouth rehabilitation was combined with standardized surface electromyographic (ssEMG) analysis in order to respect the masticatory muscle symmetry and coordination. The Authors conclude that the standardized surface electromyography of the masticatory muscles coupled with custom made centric relation registration device is an easy to use procedure to reduce torsional strains on the oral hard structures.
","PeriodicalId":35508,"journal":{"name":"Stomatologija","volume":"23 1","pages":"26-32"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"39422908","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Low or intermediate grade tumors are slow-growing and can be mistaken for benign lesions on both physical exam and imaging studies. We present a case of hypervascular mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the hard palate that was initially thought to represent a benign vascular lesion. To our knowledge, only two prior cases of hypervascular mucoepidermoid carcinoma have been previously reported. This is the first case showing the MRI features of this tumor and its temporal evolution on CT over several years. Our patient ultimately underwent angiographic tumor embolization so that her lesion could be safely biopsied without significant bleeding risk. We present this as a potential diagnostic pitfall and explain how the treatment for hypervascular mucoepidermoid carcinoma varies compared to conventional tumors.
","PeriodicalId":35508,"journal":{"name":"Stomatologija","volume":"23 1","pages":"22-25"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"39422907","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
