Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate usability of a newly produced resin nano-ceramic (RNC) as a post material, and how to increase bond strength of different post systems to root canal dentin. Material and methods: Crowns of eighty extracted maxillary central incisors were separated transversal-ly at cementoenamel junction. The specimens were then endodontically prepared. Post spaces were opened at a diameter of 1.8 mm with a length of 10 mm on the root, maintaining 4 mm of filling material in apical third. 40 RNC post and 40 fiber post samples were divided into 4 sub-groups ( n = 10), and different surface treatments were divided into control (Cnt), tribochemical coating (Tbc), and laser-irradiated (Lsr 1 and Lsr 2) groups. After adhesive cementation of posts to root canal dentin, the specimens were cut with 1 mm thicknesses. Push-out bond strength (PBS) tests were performed using a universal testing machine, and the results were analyzed using two-way analysis of variance and Tukey tests. Results: The highest PBS value for fiber post groups was observed in the Tbc group (6.51 MPa). The highest PBS values were observed in the Tbc group (6.22 MPa), particularly in the RNC post group, and this value was statistically different from the other groups ( p < 0.05). Conclusions: Tbc treatment of posts may be a suitable way for increasing the bond strength. The experimentally produced RNC posts showed PBS values close to the prefabricated fiber posts. Therefore, they could be an alternative restorative material for repairing endodontically treated teeth.","PeriodicalId":35469,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Stomatology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71125165","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Effectiveness of universal adhesives on leakage in primary teeth compomer restorations has not been studied. Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate sealing ability of a universal adhesive used with different etching modes after 1- and 3-year of artificial aging in compomer restorations of primary teeth. Material and methods: Sixty-three extracted mandibular primary second molars were used in the study. Class II box cavities (3 mm × 3 mm × 1.5 mm) were prepared in each tooth. Then, teeth were divided into three groups ( n = 21), including total-etch, self-etch, and selective-etch modes. All teeth were restored with compomer (Dyract Extra, Dentsply; Konstanz, Germany) after universal adhesive (Prime & Bond Elect Universal, Denstsply; Milford, USA) application. Teeth were divided into three sub-groups ( n = 7) with the following three different aging protocols: 24 h water storage, 1-year aging, and 3-year aging with chewing simulator (Esetron Chewing Simulator; Ankara, Turkey). 50% silver nitrate solution was applied as a tracer, and its’ penetration was analyzed in mm3 using micro-computed tomography system (SkyScan 1275; Kontich, Belgium). Data was analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis H and Friedman tests. Results: One-year aging significantly increased the leakage in self-etch group of samples (0.197 ± 0.49 mm 3 ) compared to the total-etch (0.001 ± 0.000 mm 3 ) and selective-etch (0.001 ± 0.000 mm 3 ) groups ( p < 0.05). There was no diffe rence between the groups at baseline and after the 3-year artificial aging ( p > 0.05). Conclusions: Self-etch mode of adhesive revealed higher micro-leakage levels at all examination intervals; how-ever, the difference was only significant after the 1-year aging. It can be concluded that universal adhesives can be used with all etching modes in compomer restorations.","PeriodicalId":35469,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Stomatology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71125905","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, many patients may suffer from a high level of dental anxiety. Dental anxiety impacts different aspects of life, so it is important to measure it with psychometric scales to avoid its underestimation. Previous studies related to dental anxiety used visual analogue scale (VAS), which is a quick and simple non-verbal measurement instrument. Objectives: The aim of this study was to measure and compare pre- and post-endodontic microsurgery dental anxiety using VAS. Material and methods: Thirty-five patients, who met the inclusion criteria and were previously scheduled to undergo endodontic microsurgery, answered VAS related to dental anxiety before and after the procedure. Microsurgery was performed by postgraduate students and monitored by a clinical supervisor. VAS values were analyzed with descriptive statistics. Shapiro-Wilk test determined to use Wilcoxon rank-sum test. Confidence level of the study was 95% and p < 0.05. Results: Anxiety levels showed no significant change over the analyzed period. Pre- and post-endodontic microsurgery anxiety levels did not markedly change in relation to gender either. Nevertheless, women’s anxiety median values tended to decrease after the endodontic microsurgery. On the contrary, men tended to increase their anxiety levels after the procedure. Conclusions: Within the limits of the present study, there was not a statistically significant difference in the pre-and post-endodontic microsurgery anxiety values.","PeriodicalId":35469,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Stomatology","volume":"25 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71124300","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
