The pods were blanched for different durations (3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 minutes) in boiling water to standardize blanching process. Five minutes blanching in boiling water followed by immediate dipping in cold water was found optimum for getting quality dehydrated product. Blanching treatment significantly enhanced the drying (5.67) and rehydration rate (4.65) and augmented rehydration capacity of dried pods. The dehydration recovery was 21.24% of fresh pods. The dried samples stored with HDPE pouches had low moisture content and high rehydration capacity than the samples stored with LDPE pouches. Thus, it is recommended that blanching is an essential process for quality pods. The HDPE pouches were found suitable packaging material for storage stability of dried pods.","PeriodicalId":351755,"journal":{"name":"Current Horticulture","volume":"131 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128301611","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most significant changes in post-harvest quality were weight loss, bitterness, bacterial deterioration, rooting and sprouting. Losses in carrots are due to Sclerotinia rot, Botrytis rot, Bacterial soft rot (Erwinia sp.) and sour rot (Geotrichum sp.). The physical, chemical, biological and combination of these methods were studied. Among the different methods, combination of chlorination and ozonization during washing followed by application of Lactobacillus plantarum 020 at the rate of 10 ml / litre of wash water was more effective. Carrots processed with the treatment had a shelf-life of six days under normal room temperature whereas shelf-life of untreated carrots was two days under normal room temperature.","PeriodicalId":351755,"journal":{"name":"Current Horticulture","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122299658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Prasad","doi":"10.48165/chr.2023.11.2.5","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.48165/chr.2023.11.2.5","url":null,"abstract":"Twenty six rose (Rosa × hybrida L.) cultivars grown for open field conditions were characterized using 16 vegetative and floral traits to obtain information on the nature and magnitude of existing genetic variability. The cultivars, Night Time, Christian Dior and Pusa Abhishek were early in flowering and Local Collection 3, Local Collection 4, Kashmir Velvet and Edouard had longer flowering duration; Christian Dior and Bonne Nuit had bigger flowers; Pusa Bahadur had long flower stalk; Local Collection 3, Local Collection 4, Edouard and Kashmir Velvet were having more number of flowers per plant and Pusa Bahadur, Night Time and Christian Dior were found with higher flower weight and shall help in further selection and hybridisation. The higher genotypic and phenotypic coefficients of variation were recorded for plant height, plant spread (E-W), plant spread (N-S), stem girth, number of shoots/ plant, number of petals/ flower, flower stalk length, number of flowers/ plant and 100-flower weight, indicating that genotypic variation contributed markedly towards total variability for the above traits. There is a greater scope for selection in improving flower yield. The high heritability with high expected genetic advance over mean (GAM) was observed for plant height, plant spread (E-W), plant spread (N-S), stem girth, number of shoots/ plant, flower bud length, flower diameter and flower stalk length. This also revealed the lesser influence of environment on these traits. Therefore, simple selection based on phenotypic values for these traits could be useful in their improvement for achieving higher flower yield. The trait specification identified genotypes could ideally be used as donor parents in rose breeding programme to develop desired genotypes for open field cultivation.","PeriodicalId":351755,"journal":{"name":"Current Horticulture","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127078794","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
