An important aspect in these efforts is the acquisition of relevant data from various parts of a plant facility, transmitting it to a remotely-located central server in real time, contextually analyzing this data, and making it ubiquitous and readily available to authorized users for decentralized and efficient decision making for corrective action. While there are numerous ways to achieve data transmission via wired sensors and devices, the implementation is challenging in mobile assets, such as overhead cranes. Measurement and transmission devices are often installed in locations difficult to approach, and the sensor wiring is susceptible to moving members and exposure to hot and corrosive environment. This makes it difficult to ensure overall Reliability. For the same reasons, transmission of acquired data to the remote server is also impractical using wired communication in mobile assets. In this paper, we present two wireless configurations for data telemetry in mobile assets, such as overhead cranes, for the purpose of Remote Monitoring and Intelligent Predictive Diagnostics of critical systems. In the presented implementations, we acquire data from wireless sensors, meant to be installed on such mobile assets, and transmit this data wirelessly to a remotely-located cloud server for analysis, and for making the analyzed data readily and universally available to authorized users. The first configuration uses an existing wireless internet network for data transmission to the server, and the second uses a 4G LTE cellular network. Using a workshop simulation and test setup, we demonstrate the successful implementation of these configurations.","PeriodicalId":351221,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Midwest Industry Conference (MIC)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117070273","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Deploying these algorithms directly in resource-constrained devices like mobile and embedded devices etc. is not possible. Reduced Mobilenet V2 (RMNv2) is one of those models which is specifically designed for deploying easily in embedded and mobile devices. In this paper, we implemented a real-time RMNv2 image classifier in NXP Bluebox 2.0 and NXP i.MX RT1060. Because of its low model size of 4.3MB, it is very successful to implement this model in those devices. The model is trained and tested with the CIFAR10 dataset.","PeriodicalId":351221,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Midwest Industry Conference (MIC)","volume":"40 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126220466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we address the position tracking problem of a mobile robot where it is supposed to track the position of a mobile target whose dynamics is unknown a priori. This problem is even more challenging when the dynamics of the mobile robot is also assumed to be unknown, which is indeed a realistic assumption. Most of the trajectory tracking solutions proposed in the literature in the field of mobile robotics are either focused on algorithms that rely on mathematical models of the robots or driven by a overwhelming degree of computational complexity. This paper proposes a model-free actor-critic reinforcement learning strategy to determine appropriate actuator commands for the robot to track the position of the target. We emphasize that mathematical models of both mobile robot and the target are not required in the current approach. Moreover, Bellman’s principle of optimality is utilized to minimize the energy required for the robot to track the target. The performance of the proposed actor-critic reinforcement learning approach is backed by a set of computer experiments with various complexities using a virtual circular-shaped mobile robot and a point target modeled by an integrator.","PeriodicalId":351221,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Midwest Industry Conference (MIC)","volume":"300 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121265946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Before the CNN, conventional AI calculations helped ADAS. Right now, there is an incredible investigation being done in DNNs like MobileNet, SqueezeNext & SqueezeNet. It improved the CNN designs and made it increasingly appropriate to actualize on real-time embedded systems. Due to the model size complexity of many models, they cannot be deployed straight away on real-time systems. The most important requirement will be to have less model size without a tradeoff with accuracy. Squeeze-and-Excitation SqueezeNext which is an efficient DNN with best model accuracy of 92.60% and with least model size of 0.595MB is chosen to be deployed on NXP BlueBox 2.0 and NXP i.MX RT1060. This deployment is very successful because of its less size and better accuracy. The model is trained and validated on CIFAR-10 dataset.","PeriodicalId":351221,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Midwest Industry Conference (MIC)","volume":"21 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125539353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, the platforms take years to develop, are in field-use for multiple-decades. The installed payload systems on these platforms must be backward compatible when upgraded. The production volumes are small, and many products are highly integrated to fit size, weight & power (SWaP) constraints. Cost, while important, is not the primary driving factor in design for manufacturability. Under these conditions, the Portfolio Managers in the industry make technology and material readiness decisions several years ahead of manufacture. Data needed for such decisions is often sparse, inaccurate, compartmentalized and deliberately obfuscated. Our modified Delphi method based qualitative research shows that under these constraints, middle managers in the defense industry, make tactical and strategic decisions based on best-consensus, using paired-comparison processes. And, when they choose to make ‘more unilateral’ decisions regarding portfolio management (PM) and new product development (NPD) investments, these are less robust.","PeriodicalId":351221,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Midwest Industry Conference (MIC)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114415949","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A new nonlinear control method is proposed which can ensure to generate a bounded control signal corresponding to the Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) duty ratio in the range of [0, 1]. The overall system stability is rigorously analyzed using the Lyapunov second method. PSPICE based Monte carlo simulation is conducted to further validate the effectiveness of the proposed new design in the presence disturbances as well as system parametric uncertainties.","PeriodicalId":351221,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Midwest Industry Conference (MIC)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132363466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
