Green growth has thereby become one of the most important topics in environmental economics across the globe no matter people are from academia, public, or private sectors. Even though there are many researchers who have investigated the relationship between economic growth and environmental pollution, the vast majority of research has only focused on the absolute amount of economic growth and carbon emissions. In this study, utilizing national statistics about gross domestic product and carbon emissions by region over decades, I not only provide a concrete and comprehensive picture of the green growth of Chinese provinces over time, but also present multiple indicators to capture the growth of carbon emissions and gross domestic product, as well as the growth rate of green growth. The results show that, in spite of a high GDP growth rate, the green growth rate was negative because the carbon emissions growth rate was much higher than the rate of GDP growth. This work has shed some light regarding how Chinese provinces can balance between high economic growth and low carbon emissions in order to have a more sustainable and environment-friendly development path.","PeriodicalId":350976,"journal":{"name":"Applied and Computational Engineering","volume":" 13","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140999552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Against rapid urbanization and intensifying climate changes, green infrastructure has received increasing attention due to its contribution to dealing with the urban heat islands effect (UHIE) and increasing urban sustainability. GR is one example of green infrastructure and is widely used in cities. However, its microclimate regulation benefits have not been thoroughly explored and require more exploration. There are insufficient studies on quantifying GR design factors impacts on microclimate regulation. Meanwhile, little research has explored the impact of regulating microclimate when accessibility is considered as a design factor. Using a GR in Washington, D.C., as a case study, this study models 14 roof scenarios with several common GR design factors, generates their simulated microclimate patterns, and quantifies each design factors impact based on statistical analyses. Results present quantitative data on how studied design factors change microclimate patterns and find that accessibility does affect some microclimate aspects but only to a limited rate. This study provides suggestions and insights to optimize GR design guidelines. Overall, this study contributes to the refinement of GR research, promotes better GR design, and responds to urbanization and climate issues.","PeriodicalId":350976,"journal":{"name":"Applied and Computational Engineering","volume":" 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140998352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper elucidates commonly used noise reduction methods, namely geometric structure optimization and material optimization. Geometric structure optimization involves aspects such as the number of propeller blades, disk loading ratio, skew angle, and blade shape. Material optimization encompasses material selection, surface coating optimization, and propeller duct design. Corresponding optimization methods are provided for both approaches. A novel and innovative research direction is proposed, leveraging machine learning and neural networks to optimize propeller parameters. Additionally, employing a circumferential friction nanogenerator to sense propeller bearings and identify the coupling relationship between electrical signals and factors such as roughness and rotational speed. This optimization aims to reduce noise by optimizing propeller parameters. The paper concludes by offering insights for current research on ship propeller noise reduction technology in China.","PeriodicalId":350976,"journal":{"name":"Applied and Computational Engineering","volume":" 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141000153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the past, some batteries and power generation methods were extremely harmful to the environment. So people began to seek sustainable energy sources, such as hydropower, solar power, and wind power. Among them, how to efficiently and sustainably store electric energy for these power generation methods while using the most environmentally friendly materials has become an important research direction. Carbon-based batteries have become the preferred energy storage device due to their many advantages, such as easy material acquisition, low cost, environmental protection and degradability. This paper mainly summarizes the advantages of carbon-based batteries such as simple and relatively mature preparation process, high stability and strong sustainability, as well as unit energy from the aspects of carbon-based supercapacitors, solar cells, solid-state batteries and bio-carbon-based batteries. This paper finds that shortcomings of carbon-based batteries such as low density and poor safety in special environments require further innovation in materials and processes. Affluent neighborhoods are often graced with abundant, well-maintained parks and green areas, offering residents a higher quality of life and environmental benefits. In contrast, communities with lower incomes and minority populations frequently face a scarcity of such spaces, and the green areas they do have tend to be of lower quality. This disparity not only reflects broader social and economic inequities but also has significant implications for public health, environmental justice, and social cohesion. Efforts to rectify this imbalance, while well-intentioned, can inadvertently lead to gentrification. Improving green spaces in underserved neighborhoods often makes these areas more attractive to higher-income groups, driving up property values and living costs. This process can displace long-term, lower-income residents, ironically exacerbating the very inequalities such initiatives aim to address. The resulting gentrification can also lead to increased homelessness among the most vulnerable populations. Thus, urban planners and policymakers face a complex, paradoxical challenge: how to equitably enhance urban greenery without contributing to gentrification and the further marginalization of low-income communities. This dilemma underscores the need for inclusive, carefully considered strategies in urban environmental planning that prioritize the needs and voices of all residents, especially those in historically marginalized communities.","PeriodicalId":350976,"journal":{"name":"Applied and Computational Engineering","volume":" 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140998052","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
