Research by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in the year 2021 shows that about 10% of adults aged between 20 and 79 years of the world population live with diabetes. In this context, the use of mobile apps has assisted in monitoring these patients. In this research, the experience of using mobile applications for healthcare patients with diabetes in their daily activities was investigated. For the evaluation, 5 Android mobile applications were selected for this purpose and 10 participants were invited who were people diagnosed with diabetes. To characterize the target audience, a questionnaire was applied to define the profile of the study participants. Subsequently, each participant chose two apps and followed the script for using the chosen apps. To evaluate the user experience (UX) used the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ), which assesses aspects of usability (efficiency, perspicuity, and dependability) and user experience (novelty and stimulation). Among the 5 apps evaluated, one of the apps presented problems regarding the stimulus and novelty aspects. The aspect with the lowest Likert scale value among all the apps was a novelty. Thus, the results indicated that most apps present a creative design and an attractive interface according to the users.","PeriodicalId":350776,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Brazilian Symposium on Multimedia and the Web","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122849491","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a Federated Learning system, a centralized service (aggregator) generates an arbitrary global model and sends it to the distributed components (workers), which train this model locally with their data. Then the workers send their local models to the aggregator, which unifies the local models into a new global model, in a process that can be repeated as often as necessary. In this context, this article proposes a middleware to simplify the development and deployment of Federated Learning models to IoT applications, focusing on Smart Campus scenarios. Using the abstraction provided by the middleware, the applications can easily authenticate as a new node, use the available models, and collaborate on models creation or evolution, without worrying about specific implementation details regarding the communication between the components, and the use of Machine Learning algorithms and frameworks. As a case study to validate the middleware concept and its initial implementation, an application for forecasting energy consumption is described, using an open dataset from different scenarios as input. In the evaluation described in this article, the Federated Learning model allowed a 60% reduction in the number of iterations to outperform a Long Short-Time Memory model trained by a standard Machine Learning system, with a R2 score of 0.98.","PeriodicalId":350776,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Brazilian Symposium on Multimedia and the Web","volume":"47 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133104933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Once social isolation actions have been required in pandemic, teleconsultation and remote triage combined solutions provide strategic subsidies for monitoring and treating COVID-19. When aggreded with someone allocation strategies, these solutions allowing exchange of qualified information, and strategic communication within territory, where the residents and the local assistance services are responsible for directly dealing with the pandemic. In this context, the teleconsultation multilayer expert system for COVID-19 classification, triage and intelligent allocation so-called SEMcTrA was developed. Composed of asynchronous (patient-system interaction) and synchronous (medical-patient interaction) communication modules, which legitimize and effective the medical forwarding, and enable the collect of accurate data of the disease evolution. The SEMcTrA computes the probability coefficient of Covid-19, called PCovid, to diagnostic aid decision. The remote communication with the patient is subsidized by the PCovid value in a teleconsultation environment that implements Security Assurance Level requirements. In addition, the system has a homepage for news publication to serve the population with secure information regards the new coronavirus. The system is currently being tested by the team from Division of Health Care Employee (DASS) at the Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Árido. As a result, the multilayer triage approach (asynchronous, synchronous, and smart allocation) encapsulated in the SEMcTrA, provided support for medical-decision by offering information in an efficient and agile way to combat the pandemic.","PeriodicalId":350776,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Brazilian Symposium on Multimedia and the Web","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134624696","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These regions represent the portions of the video content that are important for telling a story throughout the video. We believe that this software is an invaluable tool for studying different aspects of 360-degree videos, including what viewers consider relevant and interesting to the experience. As part of this work, we conducted a subjective experiment in which 9 human observers used the proposed software to annotate 11 360-degree videos. As a result, we created a dataset containing a set of annotated 360-degree videos, i.e., videos with marked RoIs and their semantic classification. We present a simple analysis of the annotations gathered with the experiment for a subset of the videos. We noticed that there is a higher agreement of annotations among participants for videos with fewer objects. We also compared the RoI maps with saliency maps computed with the Cube Padding saliency model. We found a strong correlation between RoI maps and computed saliency models, indicating a link between the annotated RoI and the saliency properties of the content.","PeriodicalId":350776,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Brazilian Symposium on Multimedia and the Web","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125724752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study sought to evaluate possible influences between vaccination rates in Brazil and social media interactions related to posts from questinable sources. Using econometric models, we measured the impact of questionable information about vaccines, considering geographic, political and social issues. The results show a negative impact on vaccination rates, with different variations depending on the political orientation of the posts considered, as well as a geographic inequality in terms of vulnerability to misinformation.","PeriodicalId":350776,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Brazilian Symposium on Multimedia and the Web","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134646650","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Today, far beyond entertainment and social networks, essential services (e.g., food delivery, official digital documents, health appointments, and banking features) have the mobile environment as their primary access platform. In this context, we need to ensure that people who are blind do not face barriers that make it challenging to use these services, which are increasingly common in the Brazilian routine. Our study aims to analyse the current state of accessibility of banking applications in the national territory. For this, we divided the study into two main parts. Firstly, we carried out an automatic accessibility check of four applications from Brazilian banks using the Accessibility Scanner. Secondly, we implemented a manual accessibility inspection of the same four applications. We followed the requirements proposed by the Mobile Accessibility Guide - Sidi and used the Talkback simulating user interaction. The results indicated the presence of requirements violations in all applications, especially in their interaction and navigation features. We found a total of 653 violations across all applications. In addition, the Accessibility Scanner identified an average of 7.72 errors on each screen analysed, including interface components without textual description. These results indicate that the current picture of socio-digital accessibility of banking applications is still far from what would be considered ideal. These results should draw the attention of the scientific community and financial institutions to the accessibility problems of mobile banking applications.","PeriodicalId":350776,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Brazilian Symposium on Multimedia and the Web","volume":"516 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116218485","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, recognizing emotions is a challenge. In Computing, the artifacts used to recognize emotions are instruments of self-report or data collection through biological sensors. Interaction through chatbots, in turn, has grown and brings with it challenges related to how effective the system is and how satisfied the user is when using it. We carried out an experiment with the aim of learning more about the characteristics of human-non-human interaction. As a result, the expressive responses of users and the chatbots with whom they interacted are the focus of this human-chatbot interaction paper. We gathered face registration, body movements, self-report, and peripheral signals such as the electrocardiogram (ECG), valence, and arousal estimations of the various emotional changes during the engagement period with the Bob chatbot, a conversational recommendation system, that operates through the WhatsApp app, and recommends restaurants to the user based on information such as location. The results were encouraging; users felt comfortable and were receptive to a new conversational tool and the ECG sensors attached to the thorax, which motivates us to make improvements for future tests.","PeriodicalId":350776,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Brazilian Symposium on Multimedia and the Web","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130205919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Brasil took this tram when it was still leaving the station. However, thirty years after the Web foundation stone was laid by Tim Berners-Lee, he presents harsh criticism of its consequences, uses, and applications. Such as misinformation, mass manipulation, immoral use and abuse of personal data, corporate monopoly, and threats to democracy. He followed and kept up to date on the Web’s ethical aspects. Did WebMedia also follow and keep up? How does ethics explicitly permeate WebMedia research published between 2005 and 2021? Through the methodology of Systematic Literature Review and guided by the main question, we seek to present a quantitative and qualitative overview of this topic based on papers published in the most prominent Brazilian symposium dedicated to the Web and Multimedia. Considering the results, and unlike Berners-Lee, members of the WebMedia community put aside the ethical aspects, whether applied to the Web or Multimedia ethics or research ethics, mainly focusing on technical aspects. As an area with profound intersectional potential wastes potential. Nevertheless, there is still time to recover. We discuss this result, offering interpretations containing further questions, concerns, and future work.","PeriodicalId":350776,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Brazilian Symposium on Multimedia and the Web","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127642119","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Basically, these approaches aim to find semantic topics from textual documents (e.g., product reviews, tweets). Despite the good results of these approaches in English texts, we do not observe the same semantic quality when applied in Portuguese Texts since they are more verbose, presenting varied and complex verb conjugations and many homonyms, among other specific particularities. This work intends to fill this scientific gap by exploiting and evaluating different Topic Modeling Pre-processing Pipelines for Portuguese texts, which correspond to sequences of tasks that needed to be performed before the TM strategies. More specifically, we evaluate different pre-processing pipeline configurations using different semantic data representations to overcome the challenges faced by TM strategies in Portuguese Text. In our experimentation evaluation, considering two datasets collected from Twitter and Reddit related to Brazilian political discussion, we show that our proposed extended pre-processing pipeline, especially considering semantic representations, can achieve significant gains in effectiveness when compared to the TM approaches originally proposed for English texts (up to 9x better).","PeriodicalId":350776,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Brazilian Symposium on Multimedia and the Web","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114056603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

IMSC1 standard has two profiles that are intended for subtitle and caption delivery worldwide: text- and graphic-only. SignWriting uses statically written visual symbols to represent dynamic movements in sign language, exactly as subtitle and caption. In this scenario, TV 3.0 can take advantage of IMSC1 to deliver SignWriting information by translating from text or from audio, as closed caption does nowadays. The objective of this paper is to use IMSC1, which has been adopted by TV 3.0, to apply SignWriting and consequently to improve user accessibility.","PeriodicalId":350776,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Brazilian Symposium on Multimedia and the Web","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114869700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
