The present study aimed at examining how the remembered depth position of a visual target would be distorted. Also, we examined whether depth distortion would differ for perceptual and motor-related tasks. In the experiments, a visual target was presented for one second at various distances from the observers by using a 3D projector. The fixation distance was also varied. After the disappearance of the target, observers performed either perceptual judgment (the method of constant to estimate the point of psychological subjective equality) or motor response (by using a 3D mouse) for the remembered target distance. The results showed that the remembered depth of the target was compressed toward the averaged depth of the possible depth range for both perceptual and motor responses. In addition, however, the perceptual responses tended to overestimate the depth when the fixation depth was closer than or the same as the nearest possible depth of the target. No bias was observed when the fixation depth was farther than the nearest possible depth. For the motor responses, there was a general underestimation irrespective of fixation depth. These results suggest that spatial memory of depth for visual stimuli may be qualitatively different between perceptual and motor responses.","PeriodicalId":350687,"journal":{"name":"2016 8th International Conference on Knowledge and Smart Technology (KST)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127534736","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the task, participants learned correct button press orders of a given sequence by trial-and-error and successfully repeated the sequence for 20 trials. The results demonstrated that men showed more accurate and faster performance than women. The total number of errors until the 1st successful trial was fewer in men than in women while afterward, that was not different. The speed was faster in men than in women in the all performance phases. This result indicates that men could acquire spatial representations of button presses faster and do faster motor performance than women.","PeriodicalId":350687,"journal":{"name":"2016 8th International Conference on Knowledge and Smart Technology (KST)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114944303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Animacy perception, where an obviously non-animate object elicits to us a feeling that the object is animate, is also susceptible to motion trajectory. For example, a simple dot, when moving with the random trajectory based on 1/f fluctuation, provide a vivid sensation of animacy. Recently, we found that perceived animacy from a randomly moving dot was drastically decreased by the presence of other dots that made synchronous motion with the target dot. However, in our previous study, the synchronous motion accompanied the spatial alignment, and hence it is unclear whether the synchronous motion per se or the spatial alignment is responsible for the modulation of animacy perception. The present study investigated the effects of these two factors by manipulating the spatial alignment independently from the motion synchrony. Consequently, we found that the reduction of perceived animacy from both spatially aligned as well as spatially misaligned synchronous motion, wherein the magnitudes of animacy reduction were quantitatively comparable. These results suggested that the synchronous motion is primal factor to reduce the perceived animacy, whereas the effect of spatial alignment was negligible.","PeriodicalId":350687,"journal":{"name":"2016 8th International Conference on Knowledge and Smart Technology (KST)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125693124","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Malaysia, Greater Kuala Lumpur (KL), which is part of the twelve National Key Economic Areas of the Economic Transformation Program (ETP), has been outlined with the aim of transforming the capital city Kuala Lumpur, including its surrounding municipalities, into a vibrant and prosperous metropolitan area. In line with this vision, this article gains insights from the Greater KL policy and converts it to provide technological opportunities, and so it serves as an initial investigation on smart city framework tailor-made to the Malaysian context. New research directions in the form of technology opportunities are provided as part of the outcomes of this investigation. The proposed research directions are of significance for future decisions made on investment and strategic planning.","PeriodicalId":350687,"journal":{"name":"2016 8th International Conference on Knowledge and Smart Technology (KST)","volume":"129 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127206834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some types of agricultural produce need to be inspected from multiple views in order to assess the entire appearance; however, using multiple images may obtain redundant data. Therefore, techniques are presented to reconstruct a 3D object, create new images without duplicated object areas and extract colour and texture features for evaluation. The performance of using multiple view images without duplicated object regions is compared with those of using only top-view images and the original multiple view images. Experiments are performed on apple and guava grading using kNN, NN, SVM and GP for classification. Performance differences from the different image sets are compared using McNemar's test and the Friedman test. It is found that the performance when using multiple view images is superior to that when using single-view images for all experiments. Employing features extracted from multiple view images without object area duplication achieves significantly higher accuracy than employing the original multiple view images for apple grading, but their performances do not differ significantly for guava inspection.","PeriodicalId":350687,"journal":{"name":"2016 8th International Conference on Knowledge and Smart Technology (KST)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126558273","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Above all, electromyogram (EMG) has already applied to many researches. In this study, we propose a method which can discriminate hand motions. We measured an electromyogram of wrist by using 8 dry type sensors. We focused on four motions, such as \"Rock-Scissors-Paper\" and \"Neutral\". \"Neutral\" is a state that does not do anything. In the proposed method, we apply fast Fourier transformation (FFT) to measured EMG data, and then remove hum noise. Next, we combine values of sensors based on a Gaussian function. In this Gaussian function, variance and mean are 0.2 and 0, respectively. After that, we apply normalization by linear transformation to the values. Subsequently, we resize the values into range from -1 to 1. Finally, support vector machine (SVM) conducts learning and discrimination. We conducted experiments in three subjects. Discrimination accuracy of the proposed method for three subjects was 96.9%, 95.3%, 92.2%, respectively. Therefore, we think that the Gaussian function is robust to difference of sensor position because this function combines both adjacent channels. In the previous method, the discrimination accuracy rate was 77.1%. Therefore, the proposed method is better in accuracy than the previous method. In future work, we will conduct an experiment which discriminates Japanese Janken of a subject who is not learned.","PeriodicalId":350687,"journal":{"name":"2016 8th International Conference on Knowledge and Smart Technology (KST)","volume":"8 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131451175","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we present pitch voice activity detection for noise estimation in the input with the low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The noise power spectrum is approximated by the minimum level of power over the period of the mixed signal. Since the noise level may not be stationary, the algorithm should regularly update the estimation. However, when a period contains a speech signal, the spectral power is rather high, and the noise level tends to be overestimated. To avoid this problem, we firstly use voice activity detector to detect the speech presence in the signal period. We propose that the pitch information is efficient in identifying speech activity in the mixed signal even under a low SNR condition. We adopt the Robust Algorithm for Pitch Tracking (RAPT) together with the ratio between the frame power and minimum spectral power to classify voice activity in the input frame. Under low SNR condition, the experimental result showed that the proposed algorithm is effective. The proposed algorithm achieves lower estimation errors when compared to Continuous spectrum minima tracking, Minima Control Recursive Averaging (MCRA) and the estimation based solely on the spectral power ratio.","PeriodicalId":350687,"journal":{"name":"2016 8th International Conference on Knowledge and Smart Technology (KST)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128241763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
