In this research, we form the corpus of active journals relevant to the mapping sciences and present their distribution by country, language of publication and level of accessibility. A systematic review of different subject-specific and multidisciplinary databases (GEOPHOKA, Bibliographia Cartographica, VINITI, GeoRef, Scopus and Web of Science), library catalogues, publishers’ web sites, professional associations’ web sites and other web resources was carried out. By applying set of criteria, a corpus of active journals in the field of mapping sciences was defined: it consists of 105 selected journals. The corpus of mapping sciences journals is described in detail, and the ISSN for each printed and online journal, the publisher, country, URL, language of publication and data on free accessibility are given. The largest numbers of mapping sciences journals are published in Germany, the United States of America and Poland. There are 53 journals in English language, while 44 are in open access. The limitations related to a lack of transparency of data on mapping sciences journals are discussed, as are questions of terminology.","PeriodicalId":35029,"journal":{"name":"Kartografija i Geoinformacije","volume":"12 1","pages":"4-28"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71046788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The principal objective of this study is to identify, demarcate and map agricultural land use categories of Tehran province on basis of remote sensing survey technique. In this research, Landsat ETM images of July 2006 were used to expose the use of remote sensing technique in order to produce current land use map of the study area. Analysis indicates that the major parts of the area comprise rangeland with the total surface area of 1146585 ha. About 102080 ha of the total area was occupied by rock outcrop and forest land. The remaining surface area was under cultivation. @ JASEM Man has been using land for one purpose or another from time immemorial and the systematization of knowledge relating to land use dates as far back as the imposition of taxes on land according to its use and quality (Singh& Dhilloon, 2004). The beginning of land use studies and surveys may be traced to the regional surveys which were of a purely general academic interest until the planners discovered the value of land use studies (Singh, 1997). However, the idea of a map showing the use of land was mooted by Sauer (1919). Proximate survey technique was the earliest form of a survey technique which accurately marks the location of various objects on the surface of the earth. The new technique of land use mapping was developed to overcome the shortcoming of the proximate sensing technique. The satellites fitted with various remote sensing appliances like electro","PeriodicalId":35029,"journal":{"name":"Kartografija i Geoinformacije","volume":"65 1","pages":"62-70"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.4314/JASEM.V12I2.55527","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70538497","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first meeting of experts in the history of cartography was held long ago, in the year 1964 in the Royal Geographic Society, London, during the XXth International Geographical Congress as one of the related symposia. That Congress was an impressive affair. It was opened by the queen of England herself, and was attended by various other dignitaries. The symposia on the history of cartography afterwards come to be referred to as the First International Conference on the History of Cartography (ICHC). The success of the symposium in 1964 led to a second, organised in London again in the year of 1967, attended by the impressive number of participants (200). From that time the International Conferences on the History of Cartography are organised biennially, mostly in Europe, except three of them that took place in the USA and Canada. Besides the main sessions there have been other activities at the conferences, most conspicuously the exhibits, excursions as well as receptions and visits. The conference introduced the meetings of various specialised groups such as International Cartographic Associations Commission on the History of Cartography, International Society of Curators of Early Maps (ISCEM), Imago Mundi and the round table on theoretical aspects on the history of cartography. The biennial International Conferences on the History of Cartography are held under the auspices of Imago Mundi Ltd. They bring together a wide array of scholars who are interested in all aspects of the production and consumption of maps: historians of cartography, geographers, cartographers, librarians and archivists, art historians, literary scholars and scholars from other related disciplines.","PeriodicalId":35029,"journal":{"name":"Kartografija i Geoinformacije","volume":"1 1","pages":"92-95"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/00369228208736537","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"59397229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
