This has implications for the sustainability of the tofu and soybean cake (tempeh craft). Along with the limited availability of raw material, i.e. soybean, the production costs tend to reduce the added value. The purpose of this study was to analyse the added value, the relationship of soybean commodity stock availability and added value, the factors that influence profit, and the added value of the tofu & tempeh craft. Descriptive correlative method with survey and non-probability sampling techniques as well as data collection techniques through in-depth interviews were used for this study. For data analysis, Hayami method, Pearson Product Moment Correlation, and Cobb-Douglas Model Multiple Regression were used. The results of this study revealed that i) the average value added of tofu & tempeh products is IDR 8,608.09 per kilogram of raw materials with an added value ratio of 47.11 per cent; ii) there is a fairly strong positive relationship between the variable stock availability of raw materials and the added value of tofu & tempeh products, iii) the variable of the amount of production, and the price of production have a significant effect on the profit of the tofu & tempeh craft at the real level α1 per cent; and 4) variable amount of soybean raw material significantly influences the added value of tofu & tempeh products at the real level of 1 per cent.","PeriodicalId":35010,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Rural Development","volume":"158 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139246076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The involvement of local communities in the conservation and management of these resources requires recognising and building upon their customary de facto governance arrangements. However, the absence of a comprehensive database around the customary governance arrangements hinders their recognition, also weakens these arrangements and the institutions around them. The absence of such a database weakens the trust of external stakeholders in these customary arrangements and in local communities’ abilities to act for sustainable management of resources. In an attempt to address this issue, this research was carried out for preparing such a database to record the customary governance arrangements around the common pool resources, namely the People’s Commons’ Register (PCR). This participatory action research was conducted at three locations in the central Indian states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. This paper shares the methodology evolved as an outcome of the research. It also highlights some key insights into the complex relationships of different stakeholders around the common pool resources. The creation of a database such as PCR is an essential first step in creating awareness and collectivising local communities for the conservation and management of the common pool resources. PCR aims to become a people’s document by enabling them to access opportunities to secure their rights to use, protect, manage and establish claims on their resources.","PeriodicalId":35010,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Rural Development","volume":"43 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139244164","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The contemporary industrial project has devastated the natural capital through its industrial practices, such as over-extraction of natural resources, over-passage of decomposed wastes, contamination of water bodies, inordinate drilling out of groundwater, etc., without any concern for the existence of nature as well as the rich culture developed by the tribal communities. In this context, the study unearths an empirical understanding of NALCO in Koraput, Odisha, and its impact on the sustainability of the tribal village communities as well as their symbiotic relationship with the natural environment. The empirical investigation has been conducted in selected tribal villages located in and around the NALCO.","PeriodicalId":35010,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Rural Development","volume":"128 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139246469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aggression of the rains, the unstable nature of the Lower Eocene clays and the pressure of humans on the marginal lands seem to be at the origin of the instability of the slopes. Thus, the preservation of lands requires a colossal effort from the part of the State as well as the peasants. Unfortunately, the majority of developments have been implemented on an ad hoc basis and are far from being implemented comprehensively. In El Ogla and El Hadada watersheds, bench terracing is the most spectacular form of State intervention. It is considered by technicians as the unique solution for all forms of erosion. However, the appearance of forms of failure in various sectors cannot neglect the good functioning of some of them in the stability of the slopes and the reduction of the water slide. The objective of this applied research is to evaluate the behaviour of these benches as an interactive system with the other components of the natural environment based on photointerpretation, field monitoring and the results of the diagnosis of the balance sheet displacement of sediments obtained from the application of the isotopic method of Cesium 137. This assessment of bench terracing is largely based on the Bugeat formula, which seems to be the most appropriate method for determining the suitable dimensions of both height and terrace spacing.","PeriodicalId":35010,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Rural Development","volume":"48 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139245917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study is based on a comprehensive review of the existing literature, secondary data collected from various government reports, and interaction with local forest dwellers in and around the nature park. The study finds that although the Buxa Tiger Reserve houses some of the critically threatened species, both flora and fauna, it is under severe pressure from both natural and anthropogenic factors. The natural factors that are threatening the nature park include climate change-induced water scarcity, frequent droughts and erratic rainfall. This has also brought about livelihood insecurity among local inhabitants, which has resulted in human-wildlife conflicts, illegal and rampant wildlife poaching, fragmented landscapes due to encroachment, deforestation, forest fire, the conflict between the forest department and local people, and others. Hence, sustainable use and management of park resources require both effective conservation measures and local livelihood strategies. Efforts should be made for adopting participatory biodiversity conservation strategies in which both park authority and local people work collectively towards achieving desired conservation and livelihood outcomes.","PeriodicalId":35010,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Rural Development","volume":"39 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75690297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study is based on primary data collected from the selected districts of Haryana. The findings reveal that households belonging to SC/ST and OBC castes and possessing BPL cards work for more days under the scheme. It confirms that MGNREGS guarantees livelihood security to the marginalised and poorer sections of society. It is also found that households engaged in wage labour as their primary occupation work longer under the scheme than in other occupations. Further, female workers get employment for a longer duration than male workers. It is also seen that persons with low formal education receive more employment under MGNREGA.","PeriodicalId":35010,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Rural Development","volume":"28 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89334397","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Financial autonomy is vital to reap the full potential benefits of decentralisation as the transfer of funds, functions, and functionaries will enable local bodies to be institutes of self -governance and not just delivery mechanisms. In the context of persistent fiscal distress across the local bodies, an attempt is made to empirically examine the fiscal performance of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in Andhra Pradesh during 2010-11 to 2017-18, i.e. pre- and post-bifurcation periods of the State. The fiscal autonomy and the revenue dependency of PRIs across all three tiers in the State during the same period was also analysed. The study finds that the fiscal autonomy of top tiers, i.e. Mandal Praja Parishads (MPPs) and Zilla Praja Parishads (ZPPs) is negligible in both periods, while Gram Panchayats showed relatively better fiscal autonomy in both periods.","PeriodicalId":35010,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Rural Development","volume":"22 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72589019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article constructs a very compressive Rural Development Infrastructure Index covering three dimensions - physical, social, and institutional, using 28 indicators and identifies infrastructure disparities in rural areas across thirty-three districts and eight agricultural divisions of Maharashtra. The results indicate the enormous disparities among districts and divisions in the State. Districts like Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Satara, Pune and Sangli perform very well. On the other hand, most of the laggard districts are in Marathwada and Vidarbha regions. The disparities are very high among districts within the physical infrastructure compared to social and institutional dimensions. Given the uneven infrastructure development in the State, the authorities need to undertake an infrastructure development programme to reduce infrastructure gaps among districts and regions. Indicators like irrigation facilities, all-weather rural roads and marketing facilities should be emphasised more, particularly in laggard districts such as Osmanabad, Beed, Hingoli, and Parbhani of Marathwada region, and Akola, Yavatmal, and Parbhani of the Vidarbha region.","PeriodicalId":35010,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Rural Development","volume":"18 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88947120","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
