Medical leadership is currently undergoing a major transformation, with the expectation that each healthcare provider will contribute, in accordance with the principle of subsidiarity, to providing the appropriate care needed. All healthcare professionals are encouraged to embrace this approach, which involves listening to patients and analyzing their verbatim accounts to improve the care pathway. Nurses play a vital role in helping patients quit smoking. Because of their close proximity to patients, they provide ongoing support, combining pharmacological treatments with motivational support tailored to patients' real-life situations. They also participate in \"low-threshold\" interventions that facilitate access to care. This structural change is raising questions among nursing education administrators and professionals. The training program, which has been partially university-based since 2009, is demanding yet remains professionally oriented. While this reform aims to address numerous challenges, it also raises significant concerns. In this context, the increased recognition of nursing competencies serves as a major driver of adaptation. Recent changes to the legislative framework - notably through Law No. 2025-581 of June 27, 2025, on the nursing profession - reflect this trend by formalizing practices already well-established in the field.
