In order to alleviate the problem, sensing capabilities of smartphones can be used to detect, warn and safeguard these road users. In this research we propose an infrastructure-less fog-based architecture named PV-Alert (Pedestrian-Vehicle Alert) where fog nodes process delay sensitive data obtained from smartphones for alerting pedestrians and drivers before sending the data to the cloud for further analysis. Fog computing is considered in developing the architecture since it is an emerging paradigm that has paramount of advantages for low-latency applications which demand mobility support, geo-distribution and location awareness. We have also defined an algorithm for accident prediction and alerting traffic accidents involving vehicles and pedestrians. PV-Alert can be deployed quickly since it is based only on users' smartphones and doesn't require special infrastructure. Simulation results show that the proposed architecture is able to render alerts in real time whichever the wireless communication technology used to connect smartphones with fog nodes (Wi-Fi or LTE). Moreover, analytical and performance evaluations depict that the new architecture outperforms other related architectures in terms of reliability, scalability and latency.","PeriodicalId":348060,"journal":{"name":"2017 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"07 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116846477","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These mobile services have increased the demand for faster wireless networks. In this paper, we examines mobility support functions in soft handoff for IP-based mobile network, and distinguishes the control areas in the cell's range areas for mobile network's efficient session control (SC). Based on Continuous-time Markov Chain (CTMC), we introduce the loss formula such as blocking rate and handoff drop probabilities for the performance analysis. Efficient functions of False Handoff Sessions (FHS) are introduced, focusing on Inter-domain handoff. The experimental results show that our proposed scheme shows that the proposed model is highly efficient and advantageous.","PeriodicalId":348060,"journal":{"name":"2017 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125261766","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This review explores the use of multi-modal sensor fusion in BSNs for the detection, measurement and classification of upper limb for the control of dynamic systems. Specifically, the review will look into the most common multi-modal sensor combinations found in literature, namely inertial measurement units (IMUs) with electromyography (EMG), IMUs with camera systems, EMG with electroencephalography (EEG), and IMUs with flexible force sensors. The advantages and challenges associated with these sensor combinations is discussed, as well as the challenges of sensor fusion in a broad nature, with particular focus on the use of data, feature, or decision level fusion.","PeriodicalId":348060,"journal":{"name":"2017 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122209967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this article we show that such service induces significant threats and we propose a scheme that achieves privacy preserving crowd localization. Crowd localization applications leverage all their users to perform periodic BLE scan and detect the nearby tracked devices. The users run a smartphone application which periodically forwards the list of tracked devices seen in the vicinity. This allows a user to track the mobility of its tracked devices at a large scale. We show that these tags use public or random static addresses that identify the user. These addresses are sent to the tracking company server without modifications. Such a behavior puts unnecessary risk on the users as its mobility can be tracked by the tracking company and by any malicious person with a BLE smartphone. We propose a new architecture that performs crowd localization while preserving users privacy. Our proposal prevent tracking of the users localization by the company as well as any BLE capable adversary. Compared to the current proposals it has no impact on the sensors or smartphone's battery life. It doesn't impair the performance of the crowd localization. Its only downside is a slight increase of the computation cost for the tracking company servers when a user declare the loss of its device.","PeriodicalId":348060,"journal":{"name":"2017 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116491389","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, all regions or countries do not have the same Internet access regarding quality especially in the Indian Ocean Area (IOA). To improve this quality it is important to have a deep knowledge of the Internet physical and logical topology and associated performance. However, these knowledges are not shared by Internet service providers. In this paper, we describe a large scale measurement study in which we deploy probes in different IOA countries, we generate network traces, develop a tool to extract useful information and analyze these information. We show that most of the IOA traffic exits through one point even if there exists multiple exit points.","PeriodicalId":348060,"journal":{"name":"2017 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126710090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
