Suicide is a global public health concern, with a significant impact on mortality rates. This study explores the complex interplay between spirituality, resilience and the suicide risk in Romanian patients diagnosed with depression. Materials and method. A clinical sample of 65 depressed inpatients participated in this study. Demographics, suicide risk, spirituality and resilience were assessed using standardized instruments. Statistical analyses were performed to identify correlations between suicide risk, resilience and spirituality. Results. The study reveals a significant negative correlation between spirituality and suicide risk, as well as between resilience and suicide risk among depressed patients. Those with higher levels of spirituality and resilience exhibited a reduced suicide risk. Discussion. This study emphasizes the critical role of depressive symptoms as predictors of suicidal behavior in individuals with mood disorders. It also highlights the protective influence of spirituality and resilience, suggesting that interventions focused on enhancing these aspects could improve the mental well-being of depressed patients and reduce the suicide risk. The findings underscore the need for comprehensive, holistic approaches to mental healthcare. Conclusions. Targeted interventions that incorporate spirituality and resilience may enhance the quality of life for depressed patients and contribute to suicide prevention efforts. Future research should explore intervention strategies that harness spirituality to strengthen resilience in diverse populations. While this study provides valuable insights, prospective research is essential to establish causal relationships, and multicenter studies should include more diverse participant populations.","PeriodicalId":34486,"journal":{"name":"Psihiatruro","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135448208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Knowledge of the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) is very important in order to measure a patient’s consciousness level. By using GCS, healthcare staff can manage many patients who suffered from traumatic brain injury. Therefore, nurses should have an adequate knowledge in terms of it. Aim. The District General Hospital is the only general hospital in the district that admits traumatic brain injury patients. Therefore, nurses who work at the District General Hospital have to manage a lot of patients to measure the GCS. This research aims to assess the nurses’ knowledge of GCS at the District General Hospital. Methodology. This is a quantitative and nonexperimental descriptive research using 143 nurses, selected by convenience sampling method, who are currently working in medical wards, surgical wards, gynecological words, obstetrics wards, and intensive care unit at the District General Hospital. Data were collected by using a questionnaire and were analyzed using Microsoft Excel. Results. The research indicated that 64% of nurses had satisfactory knowledge, 11% of nurses had good knowledge, and 25% of nurses had poor knowledge regarding GCS. This revealed that nurses did not have a good knowledge of GCS, and there is a relationship between nurses’ knowledge of GCS and socio-demographic data. Researchers suggest that it is required to implement in-service programs or ward rotations for the nurses to improve their knowledge of GCS. Conclusions. To increase nurses’ understanding of the GCS, a more methodical teaching strategy, performed with demonstrations and highly thorough, should be used.","PeriodicalId":34486,"journal":{"name":"Psihiatruro","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135448744","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At present, there are very few studies in the scientific literature that analyze the impact of the association between psychiatric disorders and social factors at the time of the first medical consultation of the oncologic patient, resulting in a less favorable diagnosis. Objectives. The evaluation of psychiatric comorbidities and the social factors influencing the delayed diagnosis for male cancer patients. Methodology. A battery of tests was administered to 87 male patients diagnosed with different types of cancer, treated in the Oncology Department of the CF2 Clinical Hospital in Bucharest. The level of self-esteem was assessed with the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and the coping mechanisms were investigated with the Cognitive-Emotional Coping Questionnaire. The inclusion criteria for this study were: gender, age of 18 years or older, histopathological confirmation of cancer, and at least one type of oncologic treatment performed. Results. The analysis of the answers to the administered questionnaires showed that 13.04% of patients had moderate and severe symptoms of depression, 54.03% presented moderate to severe anxiety disorder, and 29,89% had important levels of perceived stress. Married patients tend to go to medical consultations during the first three months (66.6%), whereas only 10.5% of them wait for longer than one year, while the divorced, unmarried or widowed patients tend to present at the doctor’s office after three months. Conclusions. This study shows that marital status, presence of children in the family, anxiety and coping strategies are a part of the characteristics that influence the swiftness with which a cancer diagnosis can be established in male patients. Marital status and the presence of children in the family have a positive impact on the duration of time needed to get medical attention, whereas anxiety and several coping strategies determine a longer waiting period.","PeriodicalId":34486,"journal":{"name":"Psihiatruro","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135448495","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The scientific literature in the field of stigmatization is deficient, especially when we address a special category of population, such as that of patients with neurocognitive disorder. Starting with the hypothesis that patients with neurocognitive disorder are stigmatized in the Romanian society, we aimed to validate or infirm this hypothesis. Materials and method. We used a stigma and self-stigma highlighting questionnaire distributed both online (using the mediatic channels) and in physical format, on paper, distributed by doctors and medical staff, addressed to people with a diagnosis of neurocognitive disorder or their relatives from Mureş County. The respondent group was divided according to demographic characteristics in order to highlight the attitude and stigmatization of the patient with neurocognitive disorder. Two questionnaires were distributed, one for patients and one for relatives, the one for patients also including specific questions for self-stigma. Correlations were made with the social, financial and professional status of the respondents, the statistical analysis using the SPSS program. Results. The results identified both areas in which patients and relatives noticed stigma and their qualitative descriptions, but also the factors that contribute to the stigma and self-stigma of the patient with neurocognitive disorder. The hypothesis was validated. The identification of level of stigma and self-stigma in patients with neurocognitive disorders from this region is important because it is well known that it contributes significantly to the decrease in the quality of life of these people. Conclusions. The present study identifies the factors that require intervention from society, both through educational measures and through other measures of social nature.","PeriodicalId":34486,"journal":{"name":"Psihiatruro","volume":"159 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135447356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article aims to provide a comprehensive review of depression in the elderly, exploring its prevalence, risk factors, clinical manifestations and management strategies. By synthesizing the current literature and empirical studies, this review highlights the importance of identifying and addressing depression in the elderly, as well as the need for tailored interventions and support systems. The findings underscore the significance of a multidimensional approach involving healthcare professionals, caregivers and society at large to effectively combat depression in the elderly population. Effective management strategies are essential for improving outcomes in elderly individuals with depression. Collaborative care models and a multidisciplinary approach have gained recognition as effective strategies for addressing depression in the elderly.","PeriodicalId":34486,"journal":{"name":"Psihiatruro","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135448487","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Individuals who develop ethanol abuse or dependence are more likely to develop suicidal ideation throughout their lives, compared to people who are not associated with this addiction. The synchronous presence of a mood disorder can interfere with the relationship between alcohol abuse/dependence and suicide. The risk factors that further contribute to the association of the two entities must be considered as well. For example, maladaptive coping strategies and the way the individual face everyday problems or stressors contribute to a greater exposure to both excessive ethanol consumption and suicidal behavior. These two elements potentiate each other, and the patient can enter into a vicious circle which in many situations can lead to suicide. In order to resort to the act of taking their own lives or expressing suicidal behavior, patients often present disinhibition, decreased judgment and increased impulsivity, which are also the greatest risk factors for ethanol consumers to deviate to a suicidal attempt. The purpose of this review is to better understand the mechanisms underlying suicidal behavior and ethanol dependence, and the link between ethanol consumption and suicidal thoughts. We reviewed articles that reported both alcohol abuse and suicidal behavior, associated or not with mood disorders. We analyzed studies found on Google Scholar and PubMed databases. The searching keywords were “suicide attempt” and “alcohol abuse”. We also looked for evidence that pointed to a link between alcoholism and suicide.","PeriodicalId":34486,"journal":{"name":"Psihiatruro","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135448198","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
