The network performance impact of 3 × 2 vertical sectorization in different macro-cellular network scenarios for various combinations of antenna parameter configurations have been studied in terms of Signal to Interference plus Noise Ratio (SINR) and throughput performance. Simulation studies are performed for uniform UE distribution and full-buffer traffic by using LTE snap-shot simulator and three dimensional propagation modeling.","PeriodicalId":344018,"journal":{"name":"2009 6th International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123427252","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We considered a network consisting of some tens of mobile nodes, with randomly variable speeds in the order of some tens of km/h. Nodes are deployed on a scenario of a few km2 and have a radio range of some hundreds of meters. Commonly used Internet-based applications (based on the TCP-IP paradigm) have to be supported; they offer a multimedia traffic and are associated with QoS requirements (e.g. bounded latency and low losses). We developed a testbed for emulation and experimental validation of such scenario with a major routing protocol in the MANET context, i.e. OLSR (Optimized Link-State Routing).","PeriodicalId":344018,"journal":{"name":"2009 6th International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123013127","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the proposed scheme, the theory of set-membership filtering is applied to the training-based powers of R (PoR) multi-stage Wiener filter (MSWF) reduced-rank process and the reduced-rank filter adaptation. We exploit the variable update rates associated with the set-membership framework so that the dimensionality reducing projection matrix and the reduced-rank filter are updated independently, and only when the estimation error at the output of each process exceeds a predefined, non-time-varying bound. Normalized least mean squares (NLMS) and Bounding Ellipsoidal Adaptive Constrained Least-Squares (BEACON) algorithms are then developed and an analysis of their complexity given. Computer simulations show that the interference suppression performance exhibited by the proposed algorithms exceed that of the conventional reduced-rank NLMS and RLS algorithms whilst achieving a significant reduction in computational complexity.","PeriodicalId":344018,"journal":{"name":"2009 6th International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121771289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many applications of wireless sensor networks require a transmission from sensor nodes to a common sink. A formation of node clusters and a hierarchical transmission scheme can be employed to increase the area that can be covered by the sensor network, which is limited by the transmission range of the nodes. Algorithms for node clustering usually assume that each sensor node potentially can take over the role of a cluster head. In this paper, it is assumed that only a pre-determined subset of all nodes is capable of becoming cluster head, resulting in decreased system complexity. A node clustering algorithm that accounts for this restriction is presented and the performance of a clustered sensor network for distributed detection is analyzed depending on the fraction of potential cluster head nodes.","PeriodicalId":344018,"journal":{"name":"2009 6th International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125539055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper deals with the monitoring and static risk assessment using the technique of dynamic parameter measurement in a broad Wireless Sensors Network (WSN) system. The historical buildings exposed to the traffic vibration, which can induce stresses inside the material, as well as small seismic actions, are vulnerable. Then a permanent monitoring of the micro-shocks/vibrations is suggested to be applied to the most vulnerable monuments. The use of a WSN requires to provide a robust infrastructure to support the data collecting and decision making before, during, and after a crisis event. When a crisis occurs, through the use of such information collection methods an appropriate plan is dynamically instantiated with the specific details of the crisis.","PeriodicalId":344018,"journal":{"name":"2009 6th International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125750876","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To maximize the achievable rate, we propose a power allocation scheme to each subcarrier of the source node and the whole subcarrier of the relay node. Due to the flexible power allocation at the source node, the proposed system can attain a higher achievable rate by the method in which more power is allocated to a weaker channel and more power is allocated to the source node when the second hop has stronger channel gains. When OFDM symbol duration is relatively large, the throughput performances that consider the delay due to OFDM signal buffering at the FFT-process and propagation delay reveal that the proposed power allocation scheme outperforms a dual-hop OFDM relay system with subcarrier mapping and sub-optimal power allocation scheme.","PeriodicalId":344018,"journal":{"name":"2009 6th International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124504448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We envisage that future radio networks autonomously detect an outage based on measurements, from e.g., user equipment and base stations, and alter the configuration of surrounding radio base stations in order to compensate for the outage-induced coverage and service quality degradations and satisfy the operator-specified performance requirements as much as possible. In this paper we present a framework for cell outage management and outline the key components necessary to detect and compensate outages as well as to develop and evaluate the required algorithms.","PeriodicalId":344018,"journal":{"name":"2009 6th International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130591012","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indeed, the selection of a non-optimal network can result in undesirable effects such as higher costs in terms of new call blocking and handoff call dropping rates or poor service experience. Network selection in such an environment is influenced by several factors related to network conditions, application parameters, user preferences and terminal performances. This paper, first, describes a new architecture which allows a resource-efficient management that aims at selecting the “best-suited” network interface for each application. Second, it presents a comprehensive decision making process to rank candidate networks for service delivery to the application. The proposed scheme is based on a decision process using the TOPSIS method when solving the multi criteria analysis. The wireless networks in this model represent the alternatives, while the network and application parameters (bandwidth, Received Signal Strength, velocity support, load factor and power consumption cost) are considered as the criteria for determining the optimal network.","PeriodicalId":344018,"journal":{"name":"2009 6th International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems","volume":"142 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127935073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We study the design of systems with linear precoders and probabilistically-constrained Quality of Service (QoS) requirements for each user, in scenarios with imperfect channel state information (CSI) at the transmitter. Each user's QoS is expressed as an upper bound on the outage probability of the received signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio. Given a total power constraint on the transmitter, we consider the design of a linear precoder so as to maximize the minimum QoS requirement of all users. We propose stochastic models for the uncertainty in the CSI of each user that are suitable for uncertainties resulting from estimation errors, and those resulting from quantization errors in systems with quantized feedback of the CSI. We formulate the design problem as a chance constrained optimization problem, and we adopt a conservative approach that yields deterministic quasi-convex formulations that are efficiently-solvable. Our simulations indicate that the proposed methods can significantly increase the minimum QoS of all users when the QoS requirements are formulated as outage constraints.","PeriodicalId":344018,"journal":{"name":"2009 6th International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132749305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
