Strong resonant properties of a clinotron due to fast waves transformations were theoretically predicted even in the case of strong attenuation of the surface mode. Experimental study of the 300 GHz CW clinotron has been carried out. Simulation results were compared with experimental ones, elucidating strong resonances in a clinotron.","PeriodicalId":343933,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 17th International Conference on Mathematical Methods in Electromagnetic Theory (MMET)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116141700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Laser beams are excited by the modes of a laser cavity based on a circular metal waveguide for inhomogeneous spatial polarization of the field. It is shown that in the focal region of the lens, in the case of a moderate and sharp focusing of the radiation beam excited by the TM11 mode with a nonuniform polarization, a minimum of its axial intensity is observed. It is due to the significant influence in this case of the intensity of the longitudinal component of the field of the given mode. The obtained results expand the knowledge about the features of the focusing for the laser beams of terahertz range.","PeriodicalId":343933,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 17th International Conference on Mathematical Methods in Electromagnetic Theory (MMET)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130920919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The slab is comprised of conventional dielectric materials with a piecewise constant dielectric permittivity. Appropriate algorithm is developed for the dielectric permittivity profile reconstruction and is related to the Cauchy problem for the Riccati equation. The frequency dependencies of the complex reflection coefficients are measured by microwave vector network analyzers. The measured values of complex reflection coefficients are used as initial data for inverse scattering problem solution for finite number of frequencies. Reconstructed dielectric permittivity profiles for two and three layered slabs have a good agreement with measured ones.","PeriodicalId":343933,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 17th International Conference on Mathematical Methods in Electromagnetic Theory (MMET)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128099352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The technique was shown on the example of multiharmonic two-stream superheterodyne free-electron laser (TSFEL) with helical electron beam non-linear theory. We obtained the system of shortened differential equations for the amplitudes of interacting waves. This system considers diverse types of plural parametric interactions. We demonstrated that investigated multiharmonic TSFEL with helical relativistic electron beams (REBs) are characterized by higher electromagnetic waves amplification rates compared with TSFELs based on straight beams. It allows to reduce the longitudinal dimensions of the devices. We found out that width of electromagnetic signal frequency spectrum forming in multiharmonic TSFELs with helical REBs is bigger compared with frequency spectrum width in similar TSFELs using straight REBs.","PeriodicalId":343933,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 17th International Conference on Mathematical Methods in Electromagnetic Theory (MMET)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133883630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If the waves encounter a linear discontinuity of (mostly) arbitrary shape and extension, a variant of Snell's law applies, separately for each pair of incoming and outgoing modes. Depending on the effective indices involved, and on the angle of incidence, power transfer to specific outgoing waves can be allowed or forbidden. In particular, critical angles of incidence can be identified, beyond which any power transfer to non-guided waves is forbidden, i.e. all radiative losses are suppressed. In that case the input power is carried away from the discontinuity exclusively by reflected semi-guided waves in the input slab, or by semi-guided waves that are transmitted into other outgoing slab waveguides. Vectorial equations on a 2-D cross sectional domain apply. These are formally identical to the equations that govern the eigenmodes of 3-D channel waveguides. Here, however, these need to be solved not as an eigenvalue problem, but as an inhomogeneous problem with a right-hand-side that is given by the incoming semi-guided wave, and subject to transparent boundary conditions. The equations resemble a standard 2-D Helmholtz problem, with an effective permittivity in place of the actual relative permittivity. Depending on the properties of the incoming wave, including the angle of incidence, this effective permittivity can become locally negative, causing the suppression of propagating outgoing waves. A series of high-contrast example configurations are discussed, where these effects lead to - in some respects - quite surprising transmission characteristics.","PeriodicalId":343933,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 17th International Conference on Mathematical Methods in Electromagnetic Theory (MMET)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132930160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
