A quasi-experimental design was employed, with a sample of twenty students from a public junior high school in Indonesia, evenly divided into experimental and control groups using probability sampling with simple random sampling techniques. Interpersonal communication skills were assessed using instruments developed by the researchers and evaluated by experts. Data analysis involved the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and Kolmogorov-Smirnov. The results indicate a significant increase in the interpersonal communication skills of the experimental group students, with their average scores increasing from 67.2 before receiving group counseling services to 123 after implementing assertive training techniques. In contrast, the control group's average scores increased from 87.1 to 105.6 after the same intervention. This study highlights the effectiveness of group mentoring with assertive training techniques in enhancing students’ interpersonal communication skills, contributing valuable insights to the field of educational psychology and counseling.","PeriodicalId":34307,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Innovation in Educational and Cultural Research","volume":"16 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139320846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection techniques in this research used observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The data was collected and analyzed using data analysis by Miles and Huberman (1994), which began with data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The validity of the data used the triangulation data method. The research results show that the implementation of Macapat song learning in junior high school is hampered by two factors: internal and external factors originating from students and teachers. The internal factors inhibiting students include low student interest, students' lack of mastery of Javanese vocabulary, and the assumption that learning Macapat songs is less critical. The internal factors inhibiting teachers include Javanese language teachers who tend not to have a Javanese language educational background, teachers who do not master the material of Macapat songs, less innovative learning methods, and teachers who have difficulty implementing the emancipated curriculum in learning. The external factors inhibiting students include device usage factors, family factors, and inadequate internet networks. The external factors inhibiting teachers include insufficient allocation of learning hours and lack of infrastructure that supports Macapat song learning. This research expects students to grow their interest in learning Macapat songs to maintain and preserve Javanese culture. With students' seriousness towards the Macapat song learning material, students will have a sense of love for Indonesian culture.","PeriodicalId":34307,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Innovation in Educational and Cultural Research","volume":"22 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139321006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The inequality may affect the learning process, such as student engagement. Student engagement is a multidimensional construct that is often positively related to academic achievement. This systematic review aims to get an overview and factors that influence undergraduate students' engagement in Southeast Asian countries. The article search method was carried out through five online databases; ERIC, ProQuest, Scopus, SpringerLink, and Taylor Francis Online, and obtained 11 articles. The articles were extracted using PRISMA flow. As a result, student engagement in Southeast Asia can be described through several dimensions, namely cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and agentic. The theory most widely used is Self-Determination and Social Cognitive Theory. Besides, there are also Broaden-and-Build Theory, Conservation of Resources, and Tinto Integration Model used as the theoretical framework in some studies. For the predictors, undergraduate student engagement in Southeast Asia is more influenced by external factors that will lead to the appearance of internal predictors. Furthermore, these results also show that several demographic factors can be influential, such as age and generation group, university type, and cultural factors. The implication of this study is to consider generational and cultural characteristics to gain a deeper analysis of student engagement. The researchers also provide recommendations for further research, especially for increasing external influence to gain student engagement towards undergraduates.","PeriodicalId":34307,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Innovation in Educational and Cultural Research","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139321919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research sample consisted of 48 learners selected in total sampling. The research method used was a pretest-posttest design with a single group (one group pretest-posttest design). The data obtained were analyzed using an independent T-test. The results showed that simultaneously, the Inquiry-Based Learning model did not significantly influence students' critical thinking ability. It means that there are no other variables that can cause a decrease in the value of critical thinking ability (variable Y). However, it should be noted that this study was only conducted with one group with no comparison or control group, so the results may be limited in generalizing the results broadly. Thus, further research can be carried out by adding variables or the number of samples to deepen understanding of the Inquiry-Based Learning model's influence on students' critical thinking ability.","PeriodicalId":34307,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Innovation in Educational and Cultural Research","volume":"170 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139323867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The application of ethnomathematics in learning is very important in fostering a love for local culture which is currently almost abandoned due to modernization. This study aims to explain the mathematical elements contained in the Indonesian traditional game, namely engklek (hopscotch). The research method used ethnographic research. Data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, field notes, and documentation. The data analysis used was a triangulation analysis which consisted of data reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that there are several mathematical topics in the game, including plane geometry, the concept of the relationship between angles (opposite angles and straight angles), cube net, congruence, the concept of reflection, the concept of mathematical logic, and the concept of probability. Hopscotch can be used as a medium for learning mathematics as a learning innovation in schools. The application of ethnomathematics strategies can improve elements of character education in the form of honesty, togetherness, and high sportsmanship in carrying out traditional games.","PeriodicalId":34307,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Innovation in Educational and Cultural Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43309256","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
