For a precise insulation design, determination of transformer transient responses is unavoidable. The basis of these studies is calculation of transient responses due to application of standard switching and lightning impulse waves to the transformer winding. In a previous work, a computer program was developed for determination of the layer and disk type windings transient model parameters based on design data. This program has all of the necessary capabilities for a detailed transient study. As a continuation of that work, A method will be introduced for modeling the transformer tap winding. The tap winding is a part of HV or LV winding in a transformer which can be used for adjusting the output voltage after any small change in the output voltage. This model will be employed for modeling a 40 MVA and 230/63 kV transformer with tap winding, and the voltage distribution along its tap winding will be employed for evaluation of the model.","PeriodicalId":342687,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2004 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132415312","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most significant conclusion of the study is that the frequency content of PD current pulses for all the tests conducted is much lower at low pressures than at atmospheric pressure. In the Transmission group in Eskom, more than 30% of over 10000 CTs have been in service for more than 30 years. A real need exists for a method by which on-line partial discharge (pd) measurements can be recorded which translate into a qualitative interpretation of the degree to which both bulk insulation deterioration and voids have progressed with operational conditions. This paper will present the concepts of high frequency elements in the insulation leakage current which uniquely describe different types of failure modes in high voltage insulation. The paper will present results of forcibly created voids and insulation deterioration and the corresponding signatures for these conditions.","PeriodicalId":342687,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2004 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115032140","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The simulation in uniform field is based on accurate numerical solution of Poisson's equation in conjunction with the continuity equations for electrons, negative and positive ions. Some simplifications for the nonuniform field's calculation were applied due to the limit of a computer's calculation speed. The effect of O/sub 2/ upon the SF/sub 6//N/sub 2//O/sub 2/ gas mixture's critical field is also discussed. The electron density, positive and negative ion densities, electric field in the discharge channel, which are very important to understand the phenomena of streamer development and to assess the insulation strength of the gas mixture, are also presented in This work.","PeriodicalId":342687,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2004 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132146322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The procedure used to optimize the corona ring design, which handles more than one parameter, has been verified with examples that have an analytical solution or known optimal values. In this work the optimization is based on finding the maximum field along the insulator surface, such that this maximum field is well below the corona inception level. The design parameters of the ring diameter, diameter of the ring tube, position of the ring in its vertical plane, and the maximum field that cannot exceed the corona inception level have been used in the optimization process.","PeriodicalId":342687,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2004 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125949818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Accelerated life tests are performed on AWG 43 gauge Polyesterimide insulated magnet wires. This study uses pulse voltages. Multistress includes high temperature, high frequency, and high voltages. Lifetime analysis provides statistical information such as lifetime characteristics, probability of failures, and lifetime percentiles. This study uses Weibull distribution to model life characteristics. The failure data of the aging tests is used to obtain parameters of the frequency-electrical-thermal life model. The life model is used to describe the behavior of insulation in the presence of multistress and is also used to estimate the lifetime of magnet wires at any desired stress level. The parameters of the frequency-electrical-thermal life model used in this study are obtained by regression analysis.","PeriodicalId":342687,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2004 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation","volume":"246 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123116404","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
