To achieve scalability and fault tolerance, these systems should rely on distributed video delivery schemes, using peer-to-peer (P2P) networks built among the clients. However, generic P2P data sharing protocols cannot guarantee timely arrival of the video segments. Therefore, they must be adapted to video streaming by restricting P2P delivery into a download window. In this paper we investigate the effect of the frequently occurring phenomenon of incomplete sessions on the efficiency of stored video streaming via P2P data distribution. Through theoretical considerations and a simulation study, we've found that with a P2P download window placed at a fixed distance from the playback position the superfluous downloads can be avoided, and the efficiency of the P2P distribution can be increased.","PeriodicalId":341695,"journal":{"name":"2011 34th International Conference on Telecommunications and Signal Processing (TSP)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132870644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The golden standard for HCC diagnosis is the needle biopsy, but this is an invasive, dangerous method. We aim to develop computerized, non-invasive techniques for the automatic diagnosis of HCC, based on information obtained from ultrasound images. The texture is an important property of the internal organs tissue, able to provide subtle information about the pathology. We previously defined the textural model of HCC, consisting in the exhaustive set of the relevant textural features, appropriate for HCC characterization and in the specific values of these features. In this work, we analyze the role that the superior order Gray Level Cooccurrence Matrices (GLCM) and the associated parameters have in the improvement of HCC characterization and automatic diagnosis. We also determine the best spatial relation between the pixels that leads to the highest performances, for the third and fifth order GLCM.","PeriodicalId":341695,"journal":{"name":"2011 34th International Conference on Telecommunications and Signal Processing (TSP)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115762220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The performance evaluation of communication protocols based on Markov models is tractable with limited state space and often depends on efficient implementation. Simulation or other methods have to be adopted for system of higher complexity. We study the effect of bit errors on transmitted packets for Markov error processes in the presence of error detecting or error correcting codes. We show that the evaluation for 2-state Markov channels leads the same 2-state channel characteristics also for packet errors, where parameters are determined by a recursive and closed form solution depending on the parameters of the bit error channel. Computation schemes are derived for random and burst error detecting and correcting codes whose computation effort is shown to be moderate and generally tractable for usual packet sizes in telecommunication.","PeriodicalId":341695,"journal":{"name":"2011 34th International Conference on Telecommunications and Signal Processing (TSP)","volume":"333 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116124943","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many BMSs, each one having their own architecture using different protocols, standards and working on various communication interfaces like cable, power line or radio frequency. There are many devices that are communication enabled but due to lack of a unifying standard interoperability between devices is impossible. Founded by this observation the basic idea of this paper is to propose a solution for this problem by using Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology to design a hybrid (wired/wireless) gateway platform. A test system had been developed to test gateway communication with some wireless sensors. This solution could bring a higher level of flexibility to BMSs and therefore, various devices working on future standards and protocols would be easily integrated into current BMSs without major modifications.","PeriodicalId":341695,"journal":{"name":"2011 34th International Conference on Telecommunications and Signal Processing (TSP)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130638997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We can optimize these systems even further by setting the modulation and coding adaptively according to the channel conditions, and by using sub-carrier frequency and power allocation techniques. The overall system performance depends on the accuracy and delay of the channel state information (CSI). In this paper, we propose a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) estimation algorithm based on preamble transmission. Through simulations of several channel environments, we prove that our proposed algorithm is more accurate than conventional algorithms.","PeriodicalId":341695,"journal":{"name":"2011 34th International Conference on Telecommunications and Signal Processing (TSP)","volume":"319 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134234928","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
