To this end, it was considered the precedent of Max Weber and the literature that points out the importance of education in the movement led by Martin Luther. Thus, it was decided to work with the comparison between the Protestant and Catholic confessions. In order to achieve the proposed objective, microdata from the 2009 edition of the National High School Exam (Enem) were used. The empirical strategy followed a quasi-experimental approach, using the estimator of ordinary least squares weighted by weights generated with the entropy balancing technique. The results found indicate that Protestant or evangelical candidates performed better in the tests of human sciences; natural sciences; languages and writing. On the other hand, Catholics performed better in the math test, thus corroborating other studies conducted to Brazil.","PeriodicalId":34129,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Economia Mackenzie","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71160027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although both works are known for the proposal of a strong increase in the progressiveness in the collection of three types of tax (inheritance, income and capital), it is not difficult to find clear elements of rupture, especially when the author proposes the rationalization of various types of public spending that impact inequality (health, education, etc.), present in the first book, which completely disappears in the later work. Despite the differences noted, this article seeks to contribute to the debate by proposing a joint analysis of Piketty’s proposals, which reconciles the search for efficiency in public spending present in the first book with the broader scope of measures in the second (basic income, carbon tax, etc.), always based on an overview of the public budget. From this general framework of proposals, it is considered that the author, in addition to being a mandatory reference in the theoretical and analytical debate on inequality, can also be better recognized for his contribution to the discussion on public policies, including by incorporating relevant contributions from other authors.","PeriodicalId":34129,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Economia Mackenzie","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71160429","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using a discourse analysis, this paper focused on the national commercialization of ethanol, before the implementation of the MP, highlighting the direct sale as a possible attenuating factor of the final price, as well as the positions of the public entities regarding the sector. We conclude that this measure should lead to improvements in the collection of state taxes. However, problems related to the distance between service stations and mills are limiting factors for this commercialization, at this first moment, due to the process of storing large quantities of ethanol.","PeriodicalId":34129,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Economia Mackenzie","volume":"63 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135784687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main results show that the variables credit supply and number of branches, without spatial lag, were significant and positively correlated with the economic growth of the municipalities. In addition, there were spatial spillover effects of the variables credit supply, number of branches and GDP per capita on the economic growth of municipalities. The empirical strategy consists of using Mincerian equations that will seek to capture the effects of productive characteristics and the labor market. work. To achieve this objective, two methods are employed. The first part consists of using the Oaxaca-Blinder (1973) decomposition to verify, through the wage averages of the Mincerian equations, the gross wage differential, focusing on the portion of the wage gap attributed to the explained part (workers’ characteristics) and the unexplained part (“possible discrimination”). The second method applies RIF-regressions to estimate the income equations for three quantiles: 25°, 50° and 75°. The results indicate that the productive attributes help in the salary differential between men and women, and the unexplained component indicates that the discriminatory effect tends to increase the difference between these agents. Finally, the results of the RIF-regres-sions suggest that there is wage discrimination among all groups studied along the sample quantiles. It was also observed that higher education contributed positively in all analyzed samples.","PeriodicalId":34129,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Economia Mackenzie","volume":"64 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71160077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We used regressions with panel data to test the hypothesis that the higher the level of tax aggressiveness practiced by companies, the higher the reputational costs they suffer from this practice. The sample is in Brazilian publicly traded companies from 2010 to 2018. The results did not confirm the hypothesis and suggest that variations in sales, share price, admiration for the media and exchange of executives are not associated with the practice of aggressiveness, companies did not suffer reputational costs associated with tax aggressiveness. In short, this research suggests an aid to managers on the acceptance or not of fiscal aggressiveness, especially in the idea of reducing expenses with aggressive tax payments, for example.","PeriodicalId":34129,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Economia Mackenzie","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71160343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
