We call it CloudV. CloudV is built using open-source as well as homegrown EDA software tools. The ultimate goal of CloudV is to reduce the design costs by relying on cloud infrastructure and on collaborative design. Currently, CloudV v 1.0 allows students to gain hands-on experience in digital ASIC design tasks covering HDL design entry, HDL simulation, RTL synthesis and technology mapping. Physical implementation support for ASIC and FPGA is in the work to have a complete digital design flow. CloudV enhances the quality of teaching, as students focus on design activities instead of spending their time learning how to use new software tools. Moreover, students can, virtually, use CloudV anywhere using any connected computing device. A map updated in real time indicated the current location of the torch and social media sites featured photos and videos taken a short time before using the torch. This torch was the result of many student projects and a challenging integration and production process. In this paper, we present a creative way of designing and using a versatile package-level thermal evaluation vehicle. The topic of thermal management in general and the example of the evaluation tool described in this paper are very relevant to the academic circles too. This paper describes the architecture, implementation, details of operation, programming aspects and usage model of a silicon chip designed as a thermal evaluation tool. This chip was fabricated in 0.18u technology, packaged and characterized. It has a simple implementation and is easy to program, yet has substantial thermal evaluation capabilities. This is an internal tool meant for evaluating our chip architecture, floorplan, packaging & cooling solutions. Senior design course bridges the gap between the theoretical and practical domain along with providing hands on experience. Hence, it is crucial to have a concrete and highly productive course structure. This paper provides a quantitative evaluation of the outcomes i) to determine the merit of the curriculum and ii) to offer a crucial assessment of student competencies. Accordingly, this paper discusses a framework of the senior design course at the University of South Florida and the iterative work it underwent over the span of three semesters resulting in a significant improvement in the students' performance. The efficient utilization of programmable logic is still complex and requires in-depth knowledge. Therefore, understanding the basic principles of such devices and hardware description languages is of vital importance not only for students of electrical engineering. At best, even schoolchildren should have the opportunity to learn something about FPGAs early on in their education. To enable an easier access to programmable logic, many development kits are available. There are still many obstacles to working with such kits, especially for beginners. Therefore, a new flexible VHDL framework with cross-platform toolchain for simulation and synthesis is presented in this paper. The new system allows a simple and intuitive method to implement FPGA applications, while maintaining the characteristics of logic design. By this means the complexity of implementation-tasks for beginners becomes scalable. The framework is already successfully used in a national logic design contest for schoolchildren. It is easy to use and offers a large range of functionality. In our knowledge module, we report the introduction of novel method of teaching based on context which is music in our case. The topic of our module includes two emerging memory devices, STT-MRAM and FeRAM. The knowledge module based on these two devices was delivered in two distinct ways to check the outcome of context based teaching. The main aim of our module was twofold. One of them was to stimulate interest in students towards research and innovation. Another one was to examine how the motivation can be increased by applying a context in the topic rather than using conventional teaching. We accumulated students feedback through a pre and two post module surveys.
