Two scenarios are analysed and simulated based on the square patch antenna made of copper or a hybrid transparent film where the truncated corners are replaced by graphene extensions. The graphene extensions are activated or deactivated by applying two different DC bias voltages. This design allows one antenna to switch dynamically between any linear and circular polarizations to cover digital audio broadcast (DAB), global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), unknown antenna orientation, and either line-of sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) conditions.","PeriodicalId":339208,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Ubiquitous Wireless Broadband (ICUWB)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130697325","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such environment concept's is being widely adopted, which is resulting in several research issues and challenges. Privacy, service cost and provisioning delay are identified as the most crucial challenges to be addressed. This paper extends our previous work [10] and builds a generalized of quality-of-experience (QoE) design. QoE requirements are collected via numerous vehicular nodes in the vehicular cloud and re-formulated by a weighted combination of these factors, i.e., delay, price and information revealed to the Trusted Third Party (TTP). Extensive simulations are run in order to evaluate the performance of our proposed framework. Through simulations, we show that QoE-based service provisioning in a vehicular cloud fulfils the service requirements by making a compromise between delay, service cost and information revealed to the TTP.","PeriodicalId":339208,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Ubiquitous Wireless Broadband (ICUWB)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130718128","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since the sensor nodes are usually deployed in places where there is no human surveillance, these networks are highly vulnerable to various security threats. The memory, power and processing constraints of the sensor nodes pose challenges to developing efficient security algorithms. Although many cryptographic techniques have been proposed to mitigate outside attacks, the securing of networks against inside attacks has not been addressed effectively. In this paper, a novel security system has been proposed to address the overall security requirement for Wireless Sensor Networks. Defense against outside attacks is provided using a cluster-based authentication and key management scheme using Elliptic Curve Cryptography, while inside attacks are taken care by a Hybrid Intrusion Detection System using Bayesian probabilistic model for decision making. The simulation results show the overall effectiveness of the proposed scheme, revealing better performance in terms of resilience to outside attacks, memory capacity, energy efficiency and false alarm rate.","PeriodicalId":339208,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Ubiquitous Wireless Broadband (ICUWB)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127822520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, the data rate on the FSO link is adjusted in discrete manner according to the FSO link's instantaneous received signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR). If the FSO link's quality is too poor to maintain the target bit-error-rate, the system activates the RF link along with the FSO link. When the RF link is activated, simultaneous transmission of the same modulated data takes place on both links, where the received signals from both links are combined using maximal ratio combining scheme. In this case, the data rate of the system is adjusted according to the instantaneous combined SNRs. Novel analytical expression for the cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the received SNR for the proposed adaptive hybrid system is obtained. This CDF expression is used to study the spectral and outage performances of the proposed adaptive hybrid FSO/RF system. Numerical examples are presented to compare the performance of the proposed adaptive hybrid FSO/RF system with that of switch-over hybrid FSO/RF and FSO-only systems employing the same adaptive modulation schemes.","PeriodicalId":339208,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Ubiquitous Wireless Broadband (ICUWB)","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115931756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, driven by the fact that communication devices have grown much faster than the infrastructure relay support, a specific wireless setup, which consists of a large number of users K and a relatively small antenna number is investigated. Simulation results indicate a rather fast convergence to the asymptotic limits with the system's size, thereby demonstrating the practical importance of the scaling results.","PeriodicalId":339208,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Ubiquitous Wireless Broadband (ICUWB)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117338054","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

VANET QoS-OLSR is a clustering protocol that is able to increase the stability of the network while maintaining the QoS requirements. However, in this protocol, vehicles can misbehave either by under-speeding or over- speeding the road speed limits after clusters are formed. Such misbehavior leads to a widely disconnected network, which raises the need for a detection mechanism. The majority of the existing detection mechanisms are non-cooperative in the sense that they are based on unilateral judgments, which may be untrustworthy. Others employ cooperative detection scheme with evidence-based aggregation techniques such as the Dempster-Shafer (DS) which suffers from the (1) instability when observations come from dependent sources and (2) absence of learning mechanism. To overcome these limitations, we propose a cooperative method using Artificial Neural Network (ANN), which is able to (1) aggregate judgments and prevent the unilateral decisions, and (2) benefit from the previous detection experience by continuous learning. Simulation results show that our model improves the detection probability and reduces the false alarms rate.","PeriodicalId":339208,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Ubiquitous Wireless Broadband (ICUWB)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116434120","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In QSM, the spatial constellation diagram of conventional spatial modulation (SM) system is extended to include both in-phase and quadrature components of the data symbol. As such, QSM combined with CR techniques achieve significant improvement in the overall spectral efficiency while inherent advantages of SM are retained. In this paper, we study the performance of QSM-MIMO-CR systems in the presence of channel estimation errors (CEEs) and limited feedback. A closed-form expression for the average pairwise error probability (PEP) of CR system is derived and used to calculate a tight upper bound of the average bit error rate (ABER) over Rayleigh fading. In addition, a simple asymptotic expression is derived and analyzed. Simulation results, which corroborate the numerical ones, show the importance of QSM in improving the overall secondary performance and its robustness to CEEs with reduced signal power.","PeriodicalId":339208,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Ubiquitous Wireless Broadband (ICUWB)","volume":"30 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128470389","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the top of conventional adaptive modulation and coding (AMC), we allow the context-aware CTR to make best selection among three different pilot-utilization modes: conventional data-aided (DA) or pilot-assisted, non-DA (NDA) or blind, and NDA with pilot which is a newly proposed hybrid version between the DA and NDA modes. We also enable the CTR to make best selection between two different channel identification schemes: conventional least-squares (LS) and newly developed maximum-likelihood (ML) estimators. Depending on whether pilot symbols can be properly exploited or not at the receiver, we further enable the CTR to make best selection among two data detection modes: coherent or differential. It will be seen that using our new cognitive transceiver allows to 1) decrease acro transmission power to the half (typically from 40 to 20 Watts), and 2) achieve an average throughput gain as high as 140% and a 5th percentile throughput gain reaching 230% for pico-cells in case of low UE's clustering distributions.","PeriodicalId":339208,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Ubiquitous Wireless Broadband (ICUWB)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123383440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
