The positive impact of bilingualism situations on children’s cognitive and linguistic development has been repeatedly emphasized, and the myth of the connection between bilingualism and delayed speech development has been debunked. However, there is an area that requires special attention and discussion in the case of bilingualism/multilingualism, and that is the diagnosis of developmental disorders of children functioning in a bilingual situation. It should be unequivocally emphasized that bilingualism and multilingualism have no formal connection with any developmental disorder, while they negatively affect the timing and speed of diagnosis of problems. The study outlines the most critical problems faced by teachers teaching Polish as a second language and then presents various options and advantages of incorporating image/imagery into the education of children with a migration experience, incl. picture dictionaries, drawing techniques, mnemonics (link method, chain method, mental map) and a sketch note. The analysis of this topic is based on the use of the JES-PL method in teaching Polish as a second language in the context of working with foreigners. On this basis, it is possible to identify differences in the degree of learning the language of school education and in language proficiency, depending on the group in which the child came. The author, referring to the concepts of Michel Rost and Denis McQuail, analyzes teaching tasks and correlated texts present in three selected coursebooks for A2 level. The research shows that the teaching tasks do little to prepare learners for authentic listening in natural communicative contexts: students play little differentiated roles in only two systems. In glottodidactics, acquiring intercultural competence is achieved by integrating language learning with getting to know the entire cultural context. To develop this competence, it is necessary to be aware of one’s own culture and the ability to interpret it in the context of a foreign culture. The research aims at determining the respondents’ opinions on the special didactic procedure, which is teaching the second language in contrast to the learners’ first language.
