A major aspect of design of cellular systems is simultaneous sharing of channel resources avoiding multiple access interference between users. For high quality communication this must be done without severe degradation in performance of the system. Orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) is a multiple access technique that can accommodate many users with widely varying applications, data rates and quality of service requirements. This paper presents analysis of transmission of multiple data rates by using orthogonal variable spreading factor (OVSF) codes in an OFDMA system, which gives increase in spectral efficiency. The performance of the system is analyzed using bit error rate (BER), for additive white gaussian noise (AWGN) and Rayleigh fading channels.","PeriodicalId":338962,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth International Conference on Wireless Communication and Sensor Networks","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114820649","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The hardware flexibility required for dynamic adaptation is traditionally achieved with software based processors or field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), both of which come with significant energy, area and performance costs when compared to application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs). In this paper, we propose a new HW/SW interface synthesis design method aiming at the Nios-based SOPC platform with a dynamically reconfigurable functional unit. The node was implemented on the Cyclone II FPGA and tested its functionality. Finally small network with four nodes has been developed and tested the node in real time environment for forest fire detection application. This paper also explores different approaches involved in the transfer of data from the test node to the base station and an energy efficient MAC protocol is used.","PeriodicalId":338962,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth International Conference on Wireless Communication and Sensor Networks","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129571111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The genetic algorithm (GA), simulation annealing (SA) and Tabu search (TS) heuristic algorithms (HA) in a single-objective optimization form were considered. Monte-Carlo simulations showed that the performances, after convergence, achieved by the four near-optimum HA-MuD S/MIMO MC-CDMA are identical. However, their computational complexities differ depending on the operation system conditions. Therefore, the HA-MuD complexities were carefully analyzed in order to determine which one has the best trade-off between bit error rate (BER) performance and implementation complexity aspects.","PeriodicalId":338962,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth International Conference on Wireless Communication and Sensor Networks","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121776291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We have focus on the use of the protocol in MANETs to increase the throughput of the network. We focus on the use of the protocol in mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs) to increase the throughput of the network. The existing IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol uses spread spectrum technique at the physical layer. However, it uses the same PN code for spreading all the transmitted signals. This makes it impossible for concurrent transmissions to occur in the vicinity of a receiver. We use multiple spreading codes at the physical layer to allow for the simultaneous interference-limited transmissions to take place in the vicinity of the receiver. A node gains information about ongoing transmissions in its neighborhood from the overheard control packets (RTS and CTS). Using this channel-gain information obtained from these transmissions, a node can estimate the required power for its data packets. This power control mechanism has been utilized to further enhance the gains from the use of multiple spreading codes at the physical layer. Simulation results indicate that the modified protocol is able to yield about 80% gain in the throughput.","PeriodicalId":338962,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth International Conference on Wireless Communication and Sensor Networks","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122460821","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Under the same throughput basis, this work analyzes some capacity-approaching heuristic and reduced tree-search MIMO detection algorithms, combining simple linear decouplers, local search detectors, particle swarm intelligence (PSO) concepts and parallel short low density parity check codes (LDPC), suitable to uncoded as well to MIMO channel coding. For uncoded MIMO systems, low-complexity PSO approach showed to reach efficiently MIMO near-capacity for any number of transmit and receive antennas configuration, while simple linear decoupler detectors for QPSK modulation with short LDPC coding achieve reasonable performance only for nR ges nT condition.","PeriodicalId":338962,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth International Conference on Wireless Communication and Sensor Networks","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130875567","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is threat to its privacy. However, as it moves its location changes. This breaks the correlation between the vehicle and its location. The change in location also changes the neighborhood of the vehicle. This change in size and nature of neighborhood may reduce the anonymity of a vehicle. This paper addresses the challenges in providing anonymity to a moving vehicle through optimal pseudonym update. It is shown that the effective size of anonymity set reduces drastically due to change in the neighbors. The work studies the possibility that a node may retain its anonymity by updating identities in the vicinity of other vehicles to decorrelate its location and identity relation. A heuristic that allows a vehicle to switch its identity to maximize anonymity preservation is proposed. Simulation results show that updating pseudonyms in accordance to the heuristic maximizes the anonymity of a vehicle by enhancing the effective crowd cover.","PeriodicalId":338962,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth International Conference on Wireless Communication and Sensor Networks","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130760327","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dynamic clustering is one way for achieve the above defined objective. In this paper we are proposing a multi-level hierarchal clustering approach for WSN. Our proposed approach in this paper is to create a system which will adopt a topology (i.e. size of cluster and number of hierarchal level) in accordance with the traffic patterns and density of sensor nodes deployed in a given area of interest. Load on the cluster head near the base station will be more as compared to farther cluster heads as the proximity cluster head have to do the dual work of collecting data from its own cluster and also to forward (or relay) data from distant cluster heads. Therefore this situation may result in dying out of proximity cluster heads sooner than distant cluster heads. It will result in failure of network as a whole. In this situation a bottleneck will be created near the base station. In our approach, we are proposing an algorithm of hierarchical clustering with variable cluster size based on its distance from the base station. Variable cluster size is important for balancing inter-cluster and intra-cluster traffic.","PeriodicalId":338962,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth International Conference on Wireless Communication and Sensor Networks","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126170804","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A moving vehicle transmits and receives different types of messages on the road. Such communication is a threat to the privacy of a vehicle as its communication can be used to link its identity to its physical entity. The change of size and nature of the neighborhood of a moving vehicle changes as new vehicles come in its vicinity and old neighbors become distant. This change might warrant a pseudonym update for privacy preservation. Moreover, malicious vehicles may broadcast false messages in the network using the identity of other vehicles. This necessitates authentication of the broadcast in addition unlinkability of broadcast messages. Further, a vehicle should not be able to deny its communication, if warranted by law. Thus, a vehicle should be able to broadcast non repudiable, non replicable messages while remaining anonymous. To achieve these conflicting goals of privacy and non-repudiation, group signature schemes along with pseudonyms have been proposed. Group Signature schemes provide security, anonymity to the broadcast, and traceability as required in a VANET. The present work focuses on existing group signature schemes to verify their effectiveness and overheads. Moreover, a scheme to combine pseudonyms and group signature scheme has been proposed to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of group signatures in VANETs.","PeriodicalId":338962,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth International Conference on Wireless Communication and Sensor Networks","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114726864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Existing network coding schemes (e.g. COPE) find coding opportunities and use them in forwarding multiple packets, which are coded together, in a single transmission, and consequently, they achieve several fold increase in the throughput of wireless networks. In this paper, we propose CAPO, a new protocol for multi-hop wireless networks, which do attaching packets in addition to coding them. CAPO has an attaching module which attaches non-encoded packets together opportunistically. We show in this paper that CAPO can convey more packets in a single transmission than COPE using this module. In addition, it has a lazy decoding process which tries to decode stored coded packets, whenever it is needed, to increase the decoding probability leading to reduction in the number of retransmissions using the minimum number of decodings. Furthermore, we compare our lazy decoding process with the one in XOR-Top which is proactive and show that the number of decodings done by our lazy decoding process is much less than XOR-Top lazy process. In this paper, we show that CAPO with its opportunistic attaching and lazy decoding feature reduces the number of transmissions noticeably, in comparison with COPE.","PeriodicalId":338962,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth International Conference on Wireless Communication and Sensor Networks","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124528069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
