Both decoderspsila peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) performance has been studied in symmetric as well as asymmetric turbo codes environment. Turbo codes are promising for distributed source coding (DSC) because of their simple encoding implementation and impressive decoding performance. Owing to simple encoding and impressive coding efficiency, DSC is becoming one of the enabling technologies for sensor networks. In this paper, the impact of data correlation and additive noise (AWGN) on distributed source coded image data evaluated in terms of its PSNR performance. This work also evaluates the performance by transmitting the side information through an AWGN channel unlike earlier proposals which assume perfect side information at the decoder. It is observed that Log-MAP decoder performs better than SOVA decoder in the distributed source coding environment also although DSC with Log-MAP decoder is more computationally complex than that of the SOVA decoder. Simulation results are presented for different degrees of correlation between two image data using Log-MAP and SOVA decoding algorithms. It is also observed that a higher correlation corresponds to better side-information and it improves the performance of image reconstruction in both the decoding algorithms.","PeriodicalId":338962,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth International Conference on Wireless Communication and Sensor Networks","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114641794","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Outage of packet data transmission using code division multiple access (CDMA) is evaluated. Throughput and delay have also been investigated in cellular CDMA in presence of soft HO. Influence of physical layer issues like soft HO parameters, shadowing correlation, power control error (PCE) on packet data performance in forward link has been investigated.","PeriodicalId":338962,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth International Conference on Wireless Communication and Sensor Networks","volume":"54 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123006232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We optimize both bit and subcarrier allocation by considering rate maximization and total power constraint satisfaction. We solve them effectively by combining them into a multi-objective optimization problem. We propose using a non dominated sort genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) - a multi-objective optimization using genetic algorithm. Instead of combining many conflicting objectives into a single function, the NSGA-II uses multiple objective optimizations and brings out solutions which provide a better trade-off taking all conditions into consideration. The simulation results and their marked improvement over previous algorithms provide the basis to this.","PeriodicalId":338962,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth International Conference on Wireless Communication and Sensor Networks","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128625514","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence the quest to improve the efficiency of spectrum management has led to the evolution of a new form of radio. The smart software radio is an advanced technology which would not only be capable of managing spectrum efficiently but also providing reliable communication. The paper considers a frequency smart radio and the implementation of a smart receiver. An optimum model for the smart radio to operate in the radio environment has also been simulated. The most important objective of the smart radio user being, to reduce the interference introduced to the primary user. The model reduces it by using the concept of frequency hopping. Hence the simulated model can be used to study the behavior of a smart software radio in a real world environment.","PeriodicalId":338962,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth International Conference on Wireless Communication and Sensor Networks","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126436374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The corresponding bit error rate (BER) is obtained using minimum mean-square error (MMSE), maximum-ratio combining (MRC), and equal-gain combining (EGC) receivers employing Viterbi decoder. The results of STTC-MC-CDMA system show that the improved performance can be achieved having 16 states STTC with the MMSE detector.","PeriodicalId":338962,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth International Conference on Wireless Communication and Sensor Networks","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126923539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
