The proposed dispatching policy computes an urgency index with consideration of re-heating, setup cost and remaining due date. Prioritized by the index, we execute swapping or reassigning material sequences in order to minimize the total penalty cost. To evaluate the performance of the proposed policy, a discrete event simulation model is developed. With 200 data sets and 20 iterations, we compare the performance of the urgency policy with those of SPT (Shortest Processing Time) and FCFS (First Come First Served), which are the most common policies. The results show that the proposed policy consistently provides the lowest total costs by reducing the penalty costs for lateness.","PeriodicalId":338911,"journal":{"name":"2010 4th International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering","volume":"46 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-09-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120825321","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a user-selectable recommender system that reflects user interests groups by employing collaborative filtering as a technique to provide useful information in a mobile environment. We form similar user groups by simultaneously considering users' information with preferences and demographic characteristics. Then we construct list of recommenders by user's selection. This means that we provide an interactive and flexible recommender list that considers user's intention more actively, rather than unilaterally. Finally, we show the realization of a prototype that is based on iPhone.","PeriodicalId":338911,"journal":{"name":"2010 4th International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-09-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124035917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the limitation of the PCS network architecture, a constantly relocating user may encounter significant delay when requesting data or value-added services. Previous research showed that this inefficiency can be effectively reduced by predicting the user's mobile patterns. However, most research merely focused on the user's moving nodes without considering the traffic times and requested services which could dramatically affect the user's behavior. The research also did not consider how likely the user is going to relocate. Thus, in this work, we extend the hidden Markov model for modeling the behavior of the mobile users with regard to the following important factors: 1) moving node, 2) requested service, 3) user state, and 4) traffic time. Our novel approach requires only one scan of the target dataset. Moreover, the needed memory space and processing time can be independent of the transaction size. A user model can be built to predict the user's mobile patterns at different granularity levels, as well as for decision support and service improvement. Moreover, the built model can be easily adjusted later to reflect the latest user behavior without re-scanning the original dataset. Our approach can also be readily used to mine streaming data.","PeriodicalId":338911,"journal":{"name":"2010 4th International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-09-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127067791","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This new protocol enables a mobile node to change its point of attachment without its own mobility signaling. That is, network entities provide the mobility service for the mobile node. In this paper, we introduce a new handover process designed for improving handover performance in terms of handover latency. The proposed handover process allows to inform the home network prefix assigned to a moving mobile node to the new network and receive data packets destined for the mobile node immediately. We evaluate the handover latency of the proposed one compared to that of Proxy Mobile IPv6. The conducted analysis results confirm that the proposed handover process yields the reduced handover latency compared to that of Proxy Mobile IPv6 and also prevents data packet loss.","PeriodicalId":338911,"journal":{"name":"2010 4th International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-09-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122029711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These figures were published by ABI Research in 2006. Furthermore, analysts of Informa Telecoms & Media are forecasting the worldwide growth in revenue of IPTV to be ten billion dollar by 2010. The revolution that is described by these figures implies on the one hand an enormous increase in sales values but on the other hand causes problems in handling the data volume. Therefore, efficient encoding of media data has to be applied to save transmission capacity. This paper introduces a transparent multimedia content adaptation and delivery approach, i.e., model-driven content adaptation and delivery. It is based on a model that takes into account the structural metadata, semantic metadata, and scalability information of media bitstreams. Further, a format-independent multimedia packaging method is proposed based on this model for media bitstreams and MPEG-B BSDL. Thus, multimedia packaging is obtained by encapsulating the selected and adapted structural metadata within a specific delivery format. This packaging process is implemented using XML transformation filters and MPEG-B BSDL. To illustrate this format-independent packaging technique, we apply it to three packaging formats: RTP, MP4, and Ogg.","PeriodicalId":338911,"journal":{"name":"2010 4th International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering","volume":"122 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-09-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132997391","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In our previous research, we proposed 'u-service' ontology which is an abstract and structured concept for device operations in ubiquitous environments. One of the problems that we face during the design process is that there are not enough standards to analyze the effectiveness of the u-service ontology. In this paper, we propose a quality evaluation model to facilitate the design process of a u-service ontology. We extract modeling goals and evaluation indicators based on characteristics of the u-service ontology. We also present quality metrics to quantify each quality characteristics. The experiment result of the proposed quality model shows that we can use it to analyze the design of a u-service ontology from various angles. Also, it shows that the model can provide a guideline, and offer appropriate recommendations for improvement.","PeriodicalId":338911,"journal":{"name":"2010 4th International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-09-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132713477","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After finding the relationship between genres by Pearson correlation coefficient, it produces a group by K-Means clustering. It creates a genre similarity profile by similar relationship between genres within a group. Access control that has been previously performed only focused on safety, and thus not much effort has been done to consider access control in terms of efficiency. This paper proposes a method for an efficient and secure query processing of XML data streams, such as a personal digital assistant and a portable terminal, at the client side with limited resources. Specifically, this work proposes an access control processing that possesses a small overhead for attaining a secure result in a limited memory and a method to enhance the performance, finding the parts capable of optimizing each processing step for offsetting the overhead caused by the addition of access control processing. The superiority of the new method is analyzed through an experiment.","PeriodicalId":338911,"journal":{"name":"2010 4th International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-09-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121645290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
