The virus has spread rapidly, causing a global pandemic. The knowledge gained during the pandemic suggests that pregnant women and their fetuses are particularly susceptible to poor outcomes. To date, current knowledge about coronavirus infection (SARS-CoV-2) in neonatal severe acute respiratory syndrome is limited. This paper aims to report a case of a mother-infant binomial positive for COVID-19 at Hospital São Vicente de Paulo, whose protocol for newborn care in the neonatal ICU is the scientific document published by the Brazilian Society of Pediatrics, with recommendations on the respiratory care of newborns with suspected or confirmed COVID-19. The laboratory diagnosis of coronavirus was performed by the PCR test in the neonate, being confirmed on the 10th day of life. It was concluded that its transmission was vertical, with no evidence of horizontal transmission due to strict compliance with safety measures from birth to hospital discharge.","PeriodicalId":338092,"journal":{"name":"Residência Pediátrica","volume":"137 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124303864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The principal cause is secondary to the loss of function in inhibitory neurons of myenteric plexus, due inflammatory process of unknown origin. The most prevalent symptoms in children are vomit, loss of weight and aspiration pneumonia; those are more commonly related to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), making it more difficult the diagnosis of achalasia. Complementary exams are crucial to diagnoses, such as upper digestive endoscopy, radiography (barium swallow) and esophageal manometry. The treatment aims to relieve the symptoms and improve the esophageal emptying. Three years old female child, presenting persistent vomit, pulmonary auscultation reduced at right lung and condensation in the right pulmonary base suggestive of pneumonia, regarding an antecedent of five episodes of pneumonia. The symptoms started at nine months old, and the initial treatment was for GERD, without improvement. The propaedeutic confirmed the diagnoses of achalasia, though etiology was not conclusive. The chosen treatment was pneumatic dilatation with an additional surgical injection of botulinum toxin at the lower esophageal sphincter. The patient received hospital discharge to outpatient follow-up.","PeriodicalId":338092,"journal":{"name":"Residência Pediátrica","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127607090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate lipid profile of patients with T1DM accompanied at the pediatric endocrinology (UEP), Hospital de Clínicas, Federal University of Paraná (HC-UFPR), the prevalence of dyslipidemia and its correlation with glycemic control, duration of T1DM, family history of dyslipidemia and nutritional profile status. METHODS: Data of diagnostic information, comorbidities, birth weight, sex, family history of diabetes, dyslipidemia and heart diseases were reviewed. Anthropometric measurements, glycemic control, blood pressure (BP), lipid profile, and pharmacological treatment for dyslipidemia were obtained in four moments: after three months of diagnosis (t1), two (t2), five (t3), and ten (t4) years of illness. RESULTS: 228 patients (122 girls), mean age at diagnosis of 7.3 years, were included. In t3 and t4 there was a significant increase in BP elevation. Prevalence of dyslipidemia was 31.7% in t1, 33.7% in t2; 37.4% in t3; and in 63.6% in t4. There was a significant increase in total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol level over time (p<0.001) and a significant increase in triglycerides levels only in t4 (p=0.002). CONCLUSION: Changes in lipid profile in children and adolescents with T1DM are prevalent, but they are undertreated, and the greater age, the greater probability of developing dyslipidemia. Thus, screening for dyslipidemia should be done and pharmacological treatment should be encouraged as recommended.","PeriodicalId":338092,"journal":{"name":"Residência Pediátrica","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127753605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is caused by an autosomal recessive inheritance which involves the kidneys’ ability to reabsorb sodium. This report depicts a case of an 18 month-old patient with several manifestations suggesting BS, such as hypokalemia, hypercalciuria, metabolic alkalosis, polyuria, polydipsia, growth delay and congenital bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. The diagnosis was confirmed after a genetic test by classifying the patient as type IV BS. In this context, knowing about BS is crucial to include it in the differential diagnosis of early onset tubulopathies. Therefore, the possible impacts of this condition can be minimized, leading to a better quality of life for the affected.","PeriodicalId":338092,"journal":{"name":"Residência Pediátrica","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122271027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The knowledge of athletics modalities by elementary school students became the object of this study due to the possibility of contributing to a better physical preparation of students. Through a transversal and exploratory design, in a convenience sample consisting of 30 students, a questionnaire prepared by the author was applied. It was observed that the preferred sport was running for 60% of respondents. Results regarding the other variables analyzed suggested that, even today, there is a need for physical education teachers to place a greater emphasis on athletics and its modalities, aware of the relevant benefits that regular practice can bring to growing and developing children and adolescents.","PeriodicalId":338092,"journal":{"name":"Residência Pediátrica","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130090589","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Metodology: non-systematic review of literature which based its data on: National Library of Medicine, US National Library of Medicine, Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences and Scientific Electronic Library Online, ranging from 2010 to 2021. The articles were delved into the issues of prematurity, low birth weight, restricted intrauterine growth and its relation with cardiovascular and renal diseases; and proposed followup strategies. Results: the incidence of premature births has increased in the last few decades, with a variation between 5% to 14%, and, consequently, the rate of chronic-related diseases related to this situation has increased as well. The number of incomplete and immature nephrons in premature babies derives from the lack of completeness of nephrogenesis, which takes place at around 36 weeks of pregnancy. This nephron deficit necessitates a hemodynamic adaptation to meet the demands of urinary excretion. This process may be responsible for glomerular hypertension, the hypertrophy of remaining nephrons and resulting renal injuries. Factors such as low birth weight, restricted intrauterine growth and premature birth all contribute towards the global increase of the prevalence of renal disease, systemic arterial hypertension and metabolic syndrome. Conclusion: children born premature, with low birth weight and restricted intrauterine growth must have their arterial pressure and kidney functions monitored throughout the paediatric follow-up, and sent to a paediatric nephrologist whenever any abnormalities are detected","PeriodicalId":338092,"journal":{"name":"Residência Pediátrica","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128939728","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this sense, there are several factors that are necessary in the early interruption of exclusive breastfeeding, from false information to difficulties in offering breast milk. However, it is up to health professionals to have full mastery of aspects related to the benefits of breast milk for the health and well-being of infants and nursing mothers for better assistance in their follow-up. As a result, a narrative literature review was undertaken, with emphasis on the main aspects and benefits of breast milk for infant health, based on 17 articles found in the Medline and SciELO databases. Studies that dealt with the purpose of the review were selected, based on the examination of the respective abstracts. From the review of selected studies, it was found that Exclusive Breastfeeding has benefits beyond the nutritional field and offers a lower risk of developing chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity and provides protection against different types of cancer to the mother. It was also discussed that Primary Health Care plays a key role in ensuring that infants receive breast milk for the ideal time. On the other hand, there are still obstacles in the promotion of quality breastfeeding, especially for mothers and infants in situations of greater social vulnerability, an aspect that must be considered in health care.","PeriodicalId":338092,"journal":{"name":"Residência Pediátrica","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125244084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
