Today this collection is the largest for all cities of Taurica, conceding, only Chersonese. With rare exception all finds haze no archaeological context and come from underwater researches in the bay of Sugdaia. This circumstance, on the other hand, allows connecting their functioning only with activity of city port. Only the Byzantine weight signs submitted by quadrangular and similar to the disk bronze ekzagiya and quadrangular bronze weights are analyzed. Attention is paid to both the various quadrangular and similar to the disk lead weight signs including ornamented which were actively used at commission of trade operations. The conclusion is drawn that in the territory of Sugdaia from the second half of the X century there was exclusively Byzantine weight system with active use of gold coins. Along with presence of the officials who had powers of check of full weight of coins at the city, judging by the given materials, a large number were private dealers and moneychangers using unmarked weight signs including lead copies.","PeriodicalId":33782,"journal":{"name":"Antichnaia drevnost'' i srednie veka","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67246143","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The artifact is an extraordinary, it had a constructive purpose, and was used as a monolithic foot or, less likely, at the top of an octahedral stone column with a massive, presumably, squat trunk. The rather characteristic form of the object makes it possible to attribute it to the number of stalactite bases and capitals of the Golden Horde period, which were used in the Muslim and Christian monumental buildings throughout the peninsula. Close analogies to the discovered artifact among the Crimean monuments are not yet known. It differs significantly from the local, mainly cubic, products by a distinct plate-like form, considerable size and simplified plastic. It is not yet possible to find out exactly which building belonged this specific architectural detail. The date of its making, which hardly went beyond the framework of the 14th century, also cannot be determined unambiguously. Relatively confidently, it can only be assumed that the Armenian masters could have been involved in the appearance of this work. In the context of the consideration of the published artifact, special attention is paid to a number of pressing scientific problems, such as the preservation and restoration of architectural and archaeological monuments of the Old Crimea, ignoring important scientific information by leading experts in the field of art and architecture of the Golden Horde time, the long overdue need for special research on the use of stalactite warrants in the architecture of the medieval Crimea, in which, s objective is the study of individual components of the survivors.","PeriodicalId":33782,"journal":{"name":"Antichnaia drevnost'' i srednie veka","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67246389","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In 2002, during the excavation of quarter L in the southern part of the site, a one-sided fragmented black slate pendant icon was found. Its upper left part is lost. The dimensions of the preserved fragment are 3.2 x 3 cm, the thickness of the icon is 0.6 cm. The icon was found in the destruction layer of a residential building dating back to the last period of the city’s existence. On it is carved a bosom image of Christ Emanuel in a double arched frame. The quality of the icon is low. A separate image of the young Christ on stone icons is a rather rare phenomenon. The icon from Chersonesos has analogues, but differs from them in more details. This icon was found in the destruction layer of a residential building dating back to the last period of the city’s existence. Close analogies and conditions of the find will allow attributing this icon to Byzantine imports of the 13 th century.","PeriodicalId":33782,"journal":{"name":"Antichnaia drevnost'' i srednie veka","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67245790","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
