This study aims to explore the reasons underlying the barriers to disclosing HIV status to family members among people with HIV infection. This is a qualitative exploratory study. Forty participants participated in the study which was divided into five focus group discussions. They were purposively recruited from two district hospitals in West Java. FGDs were audiotape recorded with permission from participants and were verbatim transcribed. Data were analyzed qualitatively by thematic analysis technique. Four major themes emerged from the data; 1) Negative feelings about being a HIV-infected person, 2) Feeling fear of being rejected by family members, 3) Avoiding being a burden on the family, 4) Desiring to maintain a good relationship with family members. The study suggested that nurses and health care providers need to consider family as the primary source of support and encouragement for people with HIV infection. Strengthening the self-confidence of PLWH and family coping strategies needs to be more emphasized when caring for people with HIV infection particularly in the first stage after being diagnosed as HIV positive.","PeriodicalId":337731,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Keperawatan Soedirman","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132917911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper aimed to explore the psychosocial impacts of cancer on siblings. This research is a qualitative study using a descriptive phenomenology approach. There were eight siblings who were key informants aged between 8-18 years old, selected through a purposive sampling technique. In-depth interviews were the techniques used to collect data, followed by conducting verbatim transcripts. For data analysis, the Colaizzi’s analysis model was applied. The qualitative thematic analyses identified that the psychosocial impact experienced by siblings included the following: (1) grieving process (2) psychological responses; and (3) changes in the sibling's life. This paper suggests that all relevant parties, with particular reference to health care institutions and nurses, should pay attention to information and communication given to the siblings and family so that the effect of children with cancer and the psychosocial impact on siblings in families can be reduced.","PeriodicalId":337731,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Keperawatan Soedirman","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132281383","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To perform this role nurses need to provide information on the conceptual aspects of cultural competence by using instruments and assessing cultural competence in a clinical setting. Objectives of the study: 1) to develop the cultural competency for clinical pediatric nurse (CCS-CPN), and 2) to psychometric evaluate the validity and reliability of CCS-CPN. Methods: An inductive method was used to develop an instrument to measure nurse perceptions of CCS-CPN. The scale validation was conducted with a purposive sampling of 450 general hospital nurses recruited from twenty general hospitals in Indonesia. DeVellis’ eight-step plan was used to establish guidelines for development the CCS-CPN. The data was examined using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) is a method to identify the internal dimensions of the CCS-CPN. Results: Using an EFA, 30-items with a six-factor structure were retained to form the CCS-CPN. These factors describe: culture awareness of pediatric nurse; culture knowledge of pediatric nurse; culture skill of pediatric nurse; culture encounter of pediatric nurse; culture desire of pediatric nurse; and culture sensitivity of pediatric nurse. The 30-item CCS-CPN yielded an overall Cronbach’s alpha-coefficients .85. The Cronbach’s alpha-coefficients for the CCS-CPN subscales were .81, .73, .81, .75, .78 and .87, respectively. Conclusion: The 30-item CCS-CPN version of Indonesia consists of six-factors were acceptable and significant.
