In order to analyze the phenomenon of the artificial hip joint dislocation, a hip joint simulator has been developed. Although the hip joint motion and the hip joint contact force (the resultant muscle force around muscles of hip joint and the floor reaction force) during the daily life motion must be realized by the simulator, the resultant muscle force around hip joint can not be prepared easily. In this paper, a method to estimate the resultant muscle force around hip joint based on EMG (electromyogram) signals is proposed. Since the proposed estimation method requires only the measurement of EMG signals, the resultant muscle force can be estimated easily. The effectiveness of the proposed estimation method was evaluated by performing the experiments.","PeriodicalId":337659,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Workshop on Robotic Intelligence in Informationally Structured Space (RiiSS)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-04-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122589567","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many slip sensors have been proposed. However, many robotic hands have no slip sensor on their fingertips. We have proposed the slip detection method with 6-axis force torque sensor. This method detects a slip along only a fingertip. In this paper, we expand this method to detect a slip along a fingertip and a circumferential direction of the finger. Some experimental results confirm that the method is able to detect slips independently of slip directions, velocities and pressing forces.","PeriodicalId":337659,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Workshop on Robotic Intelligence in Informationally Structured Space (RiiSS)","volume":"492 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-04-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124500306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among these, temperature increase over safe values is one of the most important factors that can limit the usage of available energy. The heat generated from motors and batteries can damage the electrical systems and affect the overall performance. This results in the need to control and maximize the utilization of supplied energy from batteries. In this paper, the authors designed an intelligent system to control temperature thus preventing system malfunction due to overheating in insulated robots, such as underwater robots. This temperature controller works in parallel with the robot motion controller. The proposed temperature control system uses fuzzy logic as a control layer system. It has been adopted to avoid system errors and efficiently use the energy available. The system is developed using fans, heaters and fuzzy logic circuits for achieving an energy efficient robot with long-term high performance.","PeriodicalId":337659,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Workshop on Robotic Intelligence in Informationally Structured Space (RiiSS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-04-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130142774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wheeled mobile robots are controlled by integrated kinematic and dynamic laws. Actor critic structures in the control scheme for every node is proposed such as only single NN is used to reduce computational cost and storage resources, but parameters of critic and actors are updated synchronously. Novel tuning laws for the NNs are designed not only to learn online adaptive solutions of cooperative Hamilton-Jacobi-Isaacs (HJI) equation on purpose of approximating optimal cooperative tracking performance index functions and robust direct adaptive tracking control inputs as well as worst case disturbances but also to guarantee closed-loop stability in real-time. The convergence and stability of the overall system are proven by Lyapunov techniques. Mutual information (MI) measure is employed to analyse the ordinal pattern of the surface EMG recordings. The MI measure is extracted from EMG signals and compared with other various sEMG features in the time and frequency domains. The comparative experimental results demonstrate that autoregressive coefficients (AR)+MI has a better performance than the single features and other multi-features. The multi-features combining the different features mostly have improved the recognition performance, and the MI provides important supplemental information to the hand movements. It is evident that the proposed correlation feature is essential to improve the recognition rate.","PeriodicalId":337659,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Workshop on Robotic Intelligence in Informationally Structured Space (RiiSS)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-04-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129200627","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For analysis of the form information active basis model is used by different scales and orientations of Gabor wavelets to form a dictionary regarding object recognition (human). In motion pathway, biological movements are recognized by analyzing optic-flow patterns and entering motion information for form pathway adjustment. A synergetic neural network is utilized to generate prototype templates, representing general characteristic of every class. By having predefined templates, classifying performs based on multi-template matching. Many applications use already these platforms such as for homecare, industrial logistics, etc. and most of the time with in vicinity of humans, within dynamic and unknown environments. This poses the problem of adaptability and safety: robots should adapt to support a wide range of human users behaviors, with a strong guaranty of users' safety. In addition, such functions should take place with environments that are dynamic and not known a priori. This contribution reports on the mobile manipulator we are developing. We focus on solving the safe path planning problem for both the robot base and the robot manipulator in the presence of humans and dynamic obstacles: a safety distance should be strictly maintained by the robot with regard to the person involved in the interactive task as well as with any other person or moving object potentially colliding with the robot while performing the assigned task. These two requirements are achieved in real time by a multi-objective optimization that controls the base and the manipulator based on the task definition and the sensing data provided by the embedded sensors. Simulated scenarios have been tested and the obtained results are presented and discussed.","PeriodicalId":337659,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Workshop on Robotic Intelligence in Informationally Structured Space (RiiSS)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-04-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126550450","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In case of maritime space, it is also very important. For this purpose, marine radar has been used to acquire images around the maritime vehicles. However, radar images are easily distorted by signal attenuation with distance, blurring due to antenna directivity, reflection by obstructs, etc. There are some conventional methods to improve the image quality. However, there is a limitation due to the acquisition mechanism of radar systems. To overcome the limitation, this study shows a novel approach, which uses multiple radar images to understand the maritime space. The method estimates radar cross section (RCS) from multiple radar images by iterative image reconstruction algorithm. Performance of the proposed method is validated using actual radar images taken by marine radar system equipped on a ship. The experimental results showed that the proposed method presents a maritime space map with high image quality and without distance attenuation, sidelobe diffusion.","PeriodicalId":337659,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Workshop on Robotic Intelligence in Informationally Structured Space (RiiSS)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-04-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125333003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
