The precise cause for SBS is still unknown. However, there are a few possibilities that is believed to be the cause of SBS such as poor ventilation, bad lighting design, presence of mold, fungus and formaldehydes which is usually found in wood furniture. This research paper focuses on the furniture factor of SBS. Certain material and finishes used in furniture production are harmful to the users as it has the potential to emit chemical substances from the wood composite products(Jeon et al., 2011) which could affect the indoor air quality. Furniture production may not sound harmful, but if the processes were observed in detail, we can see animal exploitations along the progress. Adhesives used to join the furniture may have substances that are derived from animals. The objective of this research is to study the chemical component in an animal-based adhesive and plant-based adhesive in wood furniture that is commonly used in lobby or lounge area (sofa, coffee table, etc.). With the chemical components identified, it is used to see how it contributes to the Sick Building Syndrome and which adhesives will be a better option for furniture production. This research also aims to compare animal-based and plant-based adhesives in terms of quality and cost. This research uses the qualitative method in which we look at past research first-hand observations, interviews, data, etc. The outcome by the end of this research will achieve all research objectives and suggest a better adhesive in wood furniture production whether it is animal-based or plant-based adhesives that has the least effect to SBS. This research can be beneficial to all furniture companies that are finding an alternative for a safer and greener choice of adhesive in wood furniture production. This research can also be a guideline to help improve the quality in furniture production and reduce the risk of SBS.","PeriodicalId":33750,"journal":{"name":"ARTEKS Jurnal Teknik Arsitektur","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73283212","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These include smartphones, tablets, iPhones, television and others. In today's cultures, gadgets have become a trend for life and information, not just communication. All information and dailies, including shopping, payment and entertainment, are provided on this device. Users of gadgets are very heterogeneous, from older adults to the young child. Unfortunately, gadgets are also popular among children, bringing both positive and negative impacts for children. Excessive use of technology such as gadgets among children will cause a side effect for them. They spend large amounts of time doing these things while ignoring their body posture, screen brightness, and having a very near screen distance from their eyes, affecting their vision and health. Some parents use the gadget as an easy way to calm down their kids when they are in a tantrum. As a result, significant attention is required from socials and communities where children grow and develop, such as parents, caregivers, educators in early childhood education schools, and society as a whole, to reduce the adverse effects of gadgets on children.","PeriodicalId":33750,"journal":{"name":"ARTEKS Jurnal Teknik Arsitektur","volume":"7 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89242524","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One example of this is in the Denpasar and Badung regions of Bali, where the use of peciren bebadungan ornaments is currently being applied to shape their respective identities. The peciren bebadungan is an expression of brick tectonics with strong, hard, and simple characteristics. However, it has been observed that the designs of some public building facades in Bali were produced without due consideration for the meaning and philosophy of these ornaments. Therefore, this research was conducted to examine and analyze the importance of the cultural value symbol expression associated with the peciren bebadungan in Bali using a qualitative exploration method. The findings showed the implementation of the style on several public buildings in Bali, specifically in Denpasar City and Badung Regency, in combination with contemporary designs. Some others also apply the style but with incomplete implementation and modification through a simpler and more minimalistic concept. This was observed to have eliminated the inherent meaning and cultural symbol value. Therefore, it is recommended that the government, architects, as well as the entire community, need to play a very important role in preserving the peciren bebadungan cultural value symbol expression.","PeriodicalId":33750,"journal":{"name":"ARTEKS Jurnal Teknik Arsitektur","volume":"51 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78626558","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From participatory identification of tangible and intangible cultural assets, cultural mapping can increase awareness of cultural assets and a sense of belonging, facilitate network development and collaboration, and prepare village development programs according to local potential. This study aims to compile the potential and resources of Kampung Baran in a participatory manner, and then present it as significant cultural character data in shaping the identity of the place. The research was conducted qualitatively through asset mapping and community identity mapping. Asset mapping is related to the physical resources, while community identity mapping identifies intangible resources. Physical data recording is done through field observation. The on-site data mapping is triangulated through focus group discussions and in-community conversation to identify the intangible resources. Furthermore, the data were categorised, and the relations were analysed to compile the cultural mapping. The results showed that the unity between architectural elements (recontextualization of Omah Gejug), communal space according to the taneyan pattern of Kampung Baran, typical plants, local culinary, traditional arts and language, as well as socio-cultural systems and structures can be visualized to support the revitalization of place identity.","PeriodicalId":33750,"journal":{"name":"ARTEKS Jurnal Teknik Arsitektur","volume":"109 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74131046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The rationalism and density of iconic Catholic church buildings in Europe raise the allegation that the architecture of the Catholic church during the modern movement was not found in Europe but appeared in missionary areas, including Indonesia. Queen Wilhelmina adopted the ethical policy in 1901 was a driving factor for the emergence of modern-style buildings in Indonesia, including the Catholic church building. Symbols and ornaments are part of the architecture of the Catholic Church; this is contrary to the anti-ornament school of modern architecture. This research looks at the architecture of the Catholic Church in Indonesia during the 1890 - 1945 period of the modern movement. The research method used descriptive qualitative with secondary data collection. The results showed that the architecture of the Catholic Church in Indonesia during the modern movement had an identity: geometric shapes on the facade, simple symbols and ornaments and a three-dimensional roof.","PeriodicalId":33750,"journal":{"name":"ARTEKS Jurnal Teknik Arsitektur","volume":"181 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83015054","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This response to issues regarding technology development, design strategy, and the role of DSF in buildings related to aesthetic, environmental, and materiality issues in design practice. A qualitative approach with a descriptive observation case study method was conducted on various modern residential architectural designs buildings in Indonesia to illustrate how designers positioned this double skin facade in their design. The connection between the DSF with tectonic, aesthetic, sustainability, and environmental issues is shown in this study. This paper set the study boundaries for exploring residential designs' typology because the limited scale project allowed the designer to have considerable flexibility and exploration of creativity. The residential architectural design also allows the role of the DSF to be integrated with a passive design strategy, compared to commercial or public building design. The findings suggest various strategies and design exploration mapping related to DSF design. The results show that it can form a new character for contemporary Indonesian architecture and become a catalogue of exploratory, strategic, and responsive design elements in its practices.","PeriodicalId":33750,"journal":{"name":"ARTEKS Jurnal Teknik Arsitektur","volume":"124 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77357557","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cities were built from an indigenous village by creating a grid pattern to divide the village into residential blocks with the traditional market as the center. The Chinese, as immigrants, had no choice of work other than being traders. Currently, in Pasar Baru, the first commercial area in Bandung, Chinese-style shophouses are still recognizable, and some have been designated cultural heritage buildings. Unfortunately, some more are no longer intact, split into several units, or transformed into other shophouses. This study aims to show how Chinese society has continued to trade as tradition and how the shophouse as a legacy has adapted. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative using several case studies. From survey observations, it can be seen that the transformation of shophouses begins with the division of shophouses in a transverse direction so that each unit still has road access to continue the trading tradition. The success of the descendant's continued tradition has made Pasar Baru the most prominent trading center in Bandung and serves other cities around Bandung.","PeriodicalId":33750,"journal":{"name":"ARTEKS Jurnal Teknik Arsitektur","volume":"23 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83224716","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The bottom structure tends to remain, while the top tends to change. This study aimed to identify the differences in the types of wood joints between the elements and the roof construction on wooden stilts of Mbawa, Maria, Sambori, and Kole Village, Bima Regency, in the context of their adaptability to earthquakes. Case studies through observation and documentation are carried out for data collection and identification processes. The documentation results are then analyzed to ensure the connection type between the elements on each part of the roof truss. Five types of roof truss construction are found, each with some wood connection type: pin, rigid, and friction joint. The integration between joints of the roof truss with the unique construction developed to date has proven to adapt to earthquake-prone environments. The changes made by the community to improve the seismic adaptability of uma panggu show that the local seismic culture is still developing in Bima Regency.","PeriodicalId":33750,"journal":{"name":"ARTEKS Jurnal Teknik Arsitektur","volume":"52 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73077520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is important to conduct research on vernacular cultural landscapes in Indonesia, given the usual and concerning degradation of cultural landscapes. Different places have different cultures and different customary rules and habits. Each has its uniqueness and distinctiveness, so there is no one standardized approach or method that can be adapted to study the vernacular cultural landscape. Different places may require different research approaches or methods; even the same place if studied under a different topic or time frame, may also require a different approach or method. There are research approaches commonly used by the researcher of the vernacular cultural landscape, including phenomenology, narrative study, case study, grounded theory, and ethnography. This article will review one approach that can be an alternative for the researcher of the vernacular cultural landscape, namely Symbolic Interactionism. Symbolic Interactionism is an approach that can be effectively applied to study human groups, community life, and social interactions. Symbolic interactionism is able to reveal the relationships that occur naturally among members of the society, particularly the relationship between intangible symbols, rules, norms, and daily activities, with tangible things such as the formation of space, buildings, circulation, and other physical configurations.","PeriodicalId":33750,"journal":{"name":"ARTEKS Jurnal Teknik Arsitektur","volume":"34 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87997352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
