Such equipments, which are now prone to failures, are still in operation in order to maximize asset utilization. Extending the life of such equipments by policies based on proper condition assessment can mean substantial saving for the utilities. Modern techniques based on dielectric response measurement and analysis provides valuable information regarding the condition of the HV insulation. However, commercial equipments available for recording dielectric response are extremely costly. The paper reports the design of a low-cost instrument developed at High Tension Laboratory of Jadavpur University for measurement of return voltage of high voltage oil-paper insulation. In addition a method is also discussed that facilitate user to carry out on-site validation of RV measurements recorded using the above instrument.","PeriodicalId":336723,"journal":{"name":"2012 1st International Conference on Power and Energy in NERIST (ICPEN)","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132826081","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The changes can be detected using Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA). For the detection of the changes, SFRA needs a reference which is generated during commissioning of the transformer. The reference generated can be used by the same SFRA kit. But SFRA kit keeps on updating. If the transformer needs to have SFRA tests after 20 years of its commissioning, the SFRA kit might be updated and hence the old reference is unable to be used. SFRA response at design stage would remove this bottleneck which can be used for any SFRA kit. In this paper a high frequency simulated model of a 10 MVA transformer is developed based on lumped parameter representation for SFRA interpretation. SFRA plot of the model (simulated data) can be compared with the experimental SFRA plot (measured data) of the transformer and it has been found that the same can be used as a reference.","PeriodicalId":336723,"journal":{"name":"2012 1st International Conference on Power and Energy in NERIST (ICPEN)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134418170","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents an extensive literature survey of previous publications in which Bewley's lattice diagram has been used for study of electromagnetic transients, fault location in distributed systems, calculation of transient fault currents n voltages in power system networks. From the survey, several observations can be made, such as on the purpose of analysis using this method and its advantages over the other methods. The paper also further discusses about the work done for computation with digital computer using spreadsheet and recursive algorithm method. The spreadsheet method is quite difficult to program using a high level language. The later method can be easily done with recursive algorithm and further work needs to be done in this direction.","PeriodicalId":336723,"journal":{"name":"2012 1st International Conference on Power and Energy in NERIST (ICPEN)","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128949755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While designing microheaters for any specific application, it is necessary to identify the individual loss components because the total power consumption depends primarily on the significant part of loss mechanism. Proper design of a microheater that can perform efficiently over the entire operating region is of utmost importance. This paper identifies the individual components of heat loss mechanisms and their region of dominance with respect to the temperature spectrum. The convection loss mechanism has as much as 30% contribution of total heat losses. The nitride layer, which is used for providing the electrical insulation has resulted in an additional 56:6% of power demand for a heater operating at 620K. This is a significant power intake for any battery operated, hand held devices for a continuous monitoring applications such as gas sensors or air quality monitors.","PeriodicalId":336723,"journal":{"name":"2012 1st International Conference on Power and Energy in NERIST (ICPEN)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129179096","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specific grid locations are examined to study the influence of DG penetration on congestion. From competitive electricity market standpoint, DGs have great value when they reduce line congestion and improves bus voltage profile of most congested buses in particular locations and at particular times when feeders are heavily loaded. A case study on modified IEEE 14 bus test system indicates that the penetration of distributed generators can be an effective solution to reduce of power losses. The influence of DG on bus voltage profile and line losses has also been demonstrated in a modified IEEE 14 bus test system.","PeriodicalId":336723,"journal":{"name":"2012 1st International Conference on Power and Energy in NERIST (ICPEN)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115097028","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Congestion in the transmission lines is one of the technical problems that appear particularly in the deregulated environment. One of the important tasks of Independent System Operator (ISO) is congestion free power system in a deregulated era. Generator rescheduling is one of the techniques adopted by ISO to mitigate transmission congestion in a deregulated electricity market. Rescheduling is done in an Optimal Power Flow (OPF) framework to minimize the overall congestion relief cost. Firstly, generators are chosen based on their generator sensitivity factor (GSF). Secondly, Particle Swarm Optimization is used for rescheduling those selected generators. The proposed algorithm is applied on IEEE 39 Bus New England test system.","PeriodicalId":336723,"journal":{"name":"2012 1st International Conference on Power and Energy in NERIST (ICPEN)","volume":"271 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134065794","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sorting network has been one of the most critical applications on parallel computing machines. Many classic textbooks on algorithms like Thomas H. Cormen, therefore considered this problem in great detail and listed many sorting network for this purpose [2]. Sorting networks CLR90, Sav98 turned out to be convenient mean to describe certain parallel sorting algorithms [2]. In this paper we have introduced a new sorting network having time complexity (log2N)2 of theoretically and practically, where N is the number of elements. This network has a special feature it will always give the data in the required sequence (ascending or descending order) and feed the input from any direction (moving from left to right or from right to left).","PeriodicalId":336723,"journal":{"name":"2012 1st International Conference on Power and Energy in NERIST (ICPEN)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129719390","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both these two types of faults, when involving less number of turns, may remain undetected by normal protection schemes since such minor faults do not hamper normal operation of the motor. However, if these faults are not caught early they can lead to major failures in stator winding. The fault detection problem becomes more complicated when direct inter-turn short circuit faults and incipient insulation failures exhibit similar fault current magnitudes. The present contribution reports experimental results on an induction motor where both these two types of faults have been emulated. Park's Transformation has been used to extract AC components of the Park's Vector Modulus (PVM) of three phase line currents under different operating conditions of the motor. Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) has been used to extract several features from the non-stationary AC components of PVM. These features have been used to discriminate stator winding inter-turn faults from equivalent incipient insulation failures.","PeriodicalId":336723,"journal":{"name":"2012 1st International Conference on Power and Energy in NERIST (ICPEN)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122635326","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
