A linguistic approach to specificity 专一性的语言学方法

One measure of information is R.R. Yager's (1982) notion of specificity. Yager views specificity as the degree to which a possibility distribution points to a single element in the universe of discourse (U). Specificity in relation to U may complicate its utility in the optimization of fuzzy models in their linguistic space. An increase in granularity is useful to measure the amount of information contained in a possibility distribution in relation to fuzzy sets as opposed to U. This abstracted view of specificity motivates the need for a more generalized version of specificity, denoted linguistic specificity (Sp/sub L/), where alternatives are measured in relation to the linguistic terms. Such a generalization is useful in support of automating decisions in a fuzzy domain. Results of the linguistic specificity measure are illustrated using an automobile fuel consumption example.","PeriodicalId":335957,"journal":{"name":"18th International Conference of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society - NAFIPS (Cat. We also characterize the dimensions of information quality from the perspective of a systems designer. This relates directly with our view that information is an engineered product coming out of the information manufacturing processing system. Further, we integrate fuzzy sets/logic concepts into our model to facilitate the characterization of the continuum of information quality since information quality is highly contextual and dependent on the user.","PeriodicalId":335957,"journal":{"name":"18th International Conference of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society - NAFIPS (Cat. At a low-level of information processing, machine vision offers advantages of objective and consistent assessment. However machine vision systems are frequently used for grading and quality control. In these applications, it is necessary to integrate a number of physical features to make an inference about overall quality that is consistent with consumer judgements. The work presented in this paper focuses on quality assessment of chocolate chip cookies based solely on visual features. Digital images were used to define physical characteristics of cookies produced on a commercial bakery line. Consumers were asked to rate typical cookies on a line scale. A number of fuzzy systems were developed to make quality control decisions based on features extracted from digital images. Results from two fuzzy systems are compared to consumer results from a validation test.","PeriodicalId":335957,"journal":{"name":"18th International Conference of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society - NAFIPS (Cat. During the past few years, a large number of papers have been devoted to support either the thesis that probability theory is all that is required for reasoning about uncertainty, or the negative view maintaining that probability is inadequate to capture what is usually treated by fuzzy theory. In this paper (containing only some preliminaries results: our research is still in progress) we emphasize the role of conditioning (in a proper framework, i.e. de Finetti's approach to subjective probability through coherence) to get rid of many controversial aspects.","PeriodicalId":335957,"journal":{"name":"18th International Conference of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society - NAFIPS (Cat. In the proposed identification algorithm, a low-resolution fuzzy model is used to mimic the effect of a virtual higher-resolution model. The gradient descent optimization method is then applied to update the rule-base by using the difference between the actual system output and the model output. Simulation studies are included to demonstrate the performance of the algorithm.","PeriodicalId":335957,"journal":{"name":"18th International Conference of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society - NAFIPS (Cat. Envelope of plausibility defined by a new fuzzy implication operator 由一种新的模糊蕴涵算子定义的可信性包络

Using a kernel and new measures of distance between fuzzy sets, it generates a set of fuzzy conclusions of various degrees of plausibility, rather than a single fuzzy conclusion. This set of plausible conclusions generates an envelope of plausibility, which is also a fuzzy set. The kernel can be chosen to make the envelope assume any reasonable shape surrounding the rule output, e.g., a Gaussian curve, or a set with a finite support, or the output of the Zadeh implication operator. As operator input becomes increasingly dissimilar to rule input, the envelope spreads further outside the rule output. The kernel can also be chosen to encode assumptions about system response, such as the degree of predictability/nonlinearity, the fractal dimension and the maximum possible rate of change of the output with respect to the input. The new distance functions permit speculative conclusions even when operator input does not intersect rule input. Since the operator's output is speculative, an analogous assumption-free belief envelope is also defined for comparison.","PeriodicalId":335957,"journal":{"name":"18th International Conference of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society - NAFIPS (Cat. Importance weighted OWA aggregation of multicriteria queries 多条件查询的重要性加权OWA聚合

Yager (1988), appears to be very useful in flexible query answering, including information retrieval, where the information needs are often modeled by an aggregation (of the criteria in the query) between /spl and/ (pure AND) and V (pure OR). In this paper, we discuss and set up a general set of requirements for importance-weighted aggregation, and show that an importance weighting scheme suggested by Yager (1977) for OWA operators satisfies the requirements. The weighted arithmetic mean is shown to be order-equivalent to the special case of importance-weighted OWA operators where the importance-weighted satisfaction of the criteria are weighted evenly in the OWA aggregation.","PeriodicalId":335957,"journal":{"name":"18th International Conference of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society - NAFIPS (Cat. With such complexity, it can be difficult to collect sufficient data to adequately understand the behaviour of the observed system. This paper describes a method being used to examine the relationship between sampling accuracy and classification fuzziness. A simulation model acts as a surrogate for a \"real-world\" resource-habitat system. Samples are collected from the running simulation according to different classification schemes, and the ability to map species habitat by resource levels from each sample are compared to the actual simulation behaviour. The balance between sampling accuracy and the vagueness within the classification scheme compared to the complexity of the modelled system is discussed.","PeriodicalId":335957,"journal":{"name":"18th International Conference of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society - NAFIPS (Cat. We propose three fuzzy versions of GDI indices: plain fuzzy GDI indices using directly the fuzzy membership degrees, (\"semi-fuzzy\") GDI indices using fuzzy membership degrees only of points that are found (after defuzzification) to belong crisply to a cluster, and fuzzy GDI indices combined with a measure of cluster fuzziness. Two types of cluster fuzziness measure are proposed: (i) classical fuzziness measures (H) based on fuzzy membership grades of all data points in a cluster, and (ii) fuzziness measures (H/sup Semi/) that use only fuzzy membership values of data points found to belong crisply to the cluster. Numerical experiments are conducted on nine data sets to compare the performance of the crisp and fuzzy GDI indices. The best among tested indices were found to be the crisp GDI indices, the \"semi-fuzzy\" version of GDI indices. These two indices resulted in 8 out of 9; correct prescriptions of the right number of clusters. Further, a fuzzy GDI combined with measures of fuzziness H/sup Semi/ produces 7 out of 9 correct prescriptions of the number of clusters.","PeriodicalId":335957,"journal":{"name":"18th International Conference of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society - NAFIPS (Cat.
