After 15 years we look at the cultural education of adults in Poland once again in order to determine the dynamics of the differences on the examined area through the prism of the continued research. {"title":"Edukacja obywatelska dorosłych w Warszawie – w stronę lokalności i aktywności","authors":"Marta Pietrusińska, Monika Gromadzka","doi":"10.12775/RA.2018.07","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.12775/RA.2018.07","url":null,"abstract":"The article presents an initial analysis of Warsaw’s adult civic education based on legal documents, strategies, programs, and information materials concerning participatory budgeting and community centers. Results show that the concept of adult civic education in Warsaw is rooted in local communities’ learning traditions and the tenets of active citizenship. In our opinion such an approach is exclusive because its main recipients are already civically active residents, and such educational efforts do not reach disadvantaged groups. The perspective which is presented in the paper is based upon a belief that universals are not an antinomy or antithesis to cultural diversity. Such a view is in line with this of numerous anthropologists who claim that the need for questioning the universals comes from their great number and multi-facetedness as well as life worlds that are constructed by individuals living in diverse communities. The paper is related to global education of adults in the society, the one that serves global understanding and global order. Bearing in mind the growing nationalist tendencies even in historically tolerant countries such as Sweden, the UK or the USA, it is advisable that we talk about these challenges and values and include in educational offers the content that inspires reflection of things that are common for all humans. In the autobiographical story, he shares with his former student memories of his origin, experiences of school years and studies. He recalls his first professional work. He mentions his mentors, tells about his interests. With abstemious silence he omits information about numerous successes and achievements, awarded prizes, and honors.
