Roughly, trends in this housing market could be observed through three different phases. The first period encompasses the first eight years of this century and is characterized by stable and positive movements of supply and demand indicators. The year 2008 represents the turning point towards negative trends on the Croatian housing market. This was the beginning of a crisis which lasted seven years. During this period, the demand for housing units has fallen dramatically and supply of new housing units has grown at low rates. As a result of such market developments, housing prices have decreased. Negative trends persist until 2015, when stable increase of supply indicators is perceived. Thereafter, demand side of the market starts to recover, along with housing prices which begin to rise.This research represents an attempt to identify the factors that have influenced the mentioned developments on the Croatian housing market. The significance of factors which are included in analysis is tested within the multiple regression framework. Special emphasis is placed on modelling housing prices dynamics. The results indicate that there are certain specificities of the Croatian housing market. For example, demand cannot be explained well by standard housing demand determinants. The low significance of the standard factors is even more pronounced in modelling supply side of the market. When observing the significance of housing prices in the supply and demand equations, the results show that lagged prices in both equations are statistically significant. Therefore, it can be concluded that expectations on housing market in Croatia are adaptive. Finally, supply and demand elasticities are observed as their comparison can potentially help in explaining cyclic movements in the housing market.","PeriodicalId":335699,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th Economics & Finance Conference, Dubrovnik","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131811727","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Scientific studies dealing with the relationship between foreign trade and economic development are numerous and with no doubt increase the interest among the readers. As a result, researchers make a variety of analyzes and conclusions that presents valuable contributions to the science of economics. North Macedonia in its macroeconomic policy as a priority enlist the development of international trade. However, the trade balance in 2018 year revealed the existing problem of trade deficit, as again reached a very high percentage. This is a signal that warns the country?s economy in the present and in the future. The causes of this situation are various, but some are more fundamental. As one of the most was undoubtedly the global financial and economic crisis that were present especially in the European Union member countries. Countries being in this situation, reduced the demand for goods from the different companies from North Macedonia. But this is not the only reason for the difficult position of North Macedonia. Another unfavorable condition is the economic structure of the North Macedonian economy which perhaps is the most important reason. To get out of this situation, North Macedonia in the future must change its economic structure and should be oriented in producing goods that are required more in the global market. It cannot hope to compete in the world market with the goods that competes nowadays in order to be able to improve the balance of foreign trade.","PeriodicalId":335699,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th Economics & Finance Conference, Dubrovnik","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131745046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, the purpose of this paper is to empirically analyze the linkage of trade openness and competitiveness for Western Balkan countries covering the time period 2005-2017. The research method consists of a panel regression analysis by examining the static models for both fixed and random effects and using the Hausman test for deciding for the most appropriate model for the proposed sample countries. First, the gross competitiveness index is modelled as dependent variable on trade openness and a set of control variables such as: GDP per capita, gross fix capital formation, FDI, inflation and several interaction variables with trade openness. Second, innovation is taken as dependent variable whereas trade openness and the aforementioned indicators as independent variables. The empirical results of the fixed effects model suggest that trade openness positively affect competitiveness, as well as trade openness enhance innovation as in both models the coefficients of trade openness seem to be statistically significant and with positive signs. Regarding interaction variables between trade and FDI as well as trade and gross capital formation, it is confirmed that countries with higher level of FDI and higher physical capital benefit more from international trade, and in turn increase competitiveness. The findings of this research reveal important policy implications for Western Balkan countries, in terms of strengthening the mutual trade cooperation and joining the efforts for increasing even more their participation into the global market. It will imply extension of competitiveness and a range of paybacks, such that job creation, poverty alleviation and better standards of living of their citizens.","PeriodicalId":335699,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th Economics & Finance Conference, Dubrovnik","volume":"228 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129643956","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a form of the community-driven development approaches in rural areas which involves more than 74.000 villages. This research presents a case study from Ponggok village, Jetak Village, and Ngadas Village, which have successfully implemented Dana Desa. The central government appoints them as the national role models on implementing Dana Desa. They show that benefits from CDD (community-driven development) program can fulfil their needs, especially on developing clean water and sanitation access which leads to improving their livelihood. This research uses a qualitative approach using case study methodology. The research uses purposive sampling, by which, collecting data is done by interviewing, documenting, and observing the samples. It discusses several social factors which are claimed to have been contributing to the success of the implementation of Dana Desa programs, such as the role of central and local government, social capital and community participation. It aims to analyse the study case that is expected to be a lesson learned for government, practitioners and other village government, to make sure that Dana Desa is well-implemented in their areas. It is concluded that Dana Desa can be well-implemented if the villages have decent community participation, leadership, and suitable planning.","PeriodicalId":335699,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th Economics & Finance Conference, Dubrovnik","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131327086","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although immigration can bring along many benefits (labor force, cultural diversification), it constitutes a challenge for fiscal policy if immigrants fail to integrate. This paper examines the level of integration in the EU_15 on the data from Eurostat in period 2009 to 2018. The results show that immigrants who were not born in the EU_28 were significantly worse off in terms of the unemployment rate and the risk-of-poverty rate than the host society. Immigrants born in the other EU_28 country were not significantly worse off on the labor market, but the at-risk-of-poverty rate was significantly higher in comparison with the host society. The data didn?t confirm that share of immigrants with tertiary education (both from the EU_28 or outside the EU_28) was significantly lower than the share of the tertiary educated population in the host society. The level of integration of immigrants did not got worse after the migration crisis. Furthermore, the results showed a considerable difference in the degree of integration between EU_15 countries.","PeriodicalId":335699,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th Economics & Finance Conference, Dubrovnik","volume":"117 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123312950","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to present and explain, based on concrete facts and relevant results of economic activity in the Republic of Macedonia, the occurrence of interest rates, their level, their causes and their impact on other economic processes, with particular emphasis gross domestic production and economic growth. By using regression analysis and small squares estimation (OLS) we will present variables links that will help us better investigate this phenomenon. The data we will present below date from 1993 to 2013. Earlier scholars of this phenomenon have verified the close correlation of interest rates with economic development. The data, the analysis and the conclusions to be drawn in this paper show the close and negative link between the interest rate and the economic growth of the Republic of Macedonia.","PeriodicalId":335699,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th Economics & Finance Conference, Dubrovnik","volume":"2012 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123822720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Financial risk tolerance is the overall amount of uncertainty an investor is willing to take with regard to his/herinvestment decisions. The aim of this article was to investigate whether an investor?s level of education plays a role in the level of financial risk that they are willing to tolerate.Data for this article was purposefully collected using a quantitative questionnaire thatwas electronically distributed to 600 investors within the South African market. Previous research suggests thata positive relationship exists between the level of education and risk tolerance. In other words, an investor with a higher level of education will be willing to tolerate more financial risk due to being able to take more calculated financial risks. The results of this study indicated similar findings to previous research wherean individual with a postgraduate degree was more likely to be high risk tolerant compared to an individual with a lower level of education. Individuals who had some level of schooling were more likely to be risk adverse.","PeriodicalId":335699,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th Economics & Finance Conference, Dubrovnik","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130441207","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Descriptive data was collected through a questionnaire survey. Respondents were Thai people age 16 ? 35 up years. The vast majority of 226 respondents were in the age group between 21-25 years with 45.2 percent respondents. There were male 35.8 percent and female respondents 64.2 percent. This research indicated the maximum willing to pay was the maximum price at 150 baht. On the other hand, minimum willing to pay was the minimum price at 25 baht. The range of acceptable prices was between 25 - 150 baht. The resulting distribution enabled the researcher to determine upper and lower price limits for western food. The results showed that consumers considered the food to be cheap at 65 baht. If the price fell below 33 baht, the lower limit could cause the item to be judged as being of questionable quality. The consumers considered the highest price at 119 baht. If the price rose over 180 baht, the upper limit can cause the item to be judged as being too expensive, suggesting quality levels and attributes exceeding those desired by the consumers. They felt the food was cheap as felt it was expensive at 50 baht (indifference price). In term of the price stress, the indifference price (50 baht) was greater than the optimal price (35 baht). They felt some stress over price, since the price that they would most like to pay was lower than the price they view as cheap.","PeriodicalId":335699,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th Economics & Finance Conference, Dubrovnik","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114648374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Macroprudential policy is applied to strengthen the resilience of the financial system in case of materialisation of systemic risk and to support long-term sustainable economic growth. In Poland a lot of effort has been made to address the problem of Swiss franc loans. Due to increasing risk weights for FX portfolios, banks have to maintain much more capital to address systemic risk compared to domestic-currency portfolios. Other macroprudential policy instruments were set to evaluate the systemic importance of large banks operating in Poland. Nevertheless, supervisory authorities from Central and Eastern European countries do not have full flexibility in implementing macroprudential policy instruments.","PeriodicalId":335699,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th Economics & Finance Conference, Dubrovnik","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122698283","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research study aimed to place investors in a certain category of financial well-being based on their race. Data for this article was purposefully collected using a quantitative questionnaire which was electronically distributed to 600 investors within the South African market. A self-report measure for financial well-being was used where participants had to rate their own level of financial well-being. This research found that there are statistically significant differences in individuals? level of financial well-being amongst different groups of race. More specifically, results suggest that White individuals have a higher perceived level of financial well-being compared to their Black, Indian, and Coloured counterparts. However, no significant difference was found between the racial groups as low financial well-being was dominant in all four groups. Higher levels of perceived financial well-being will lead to more optimistic investment decisions which will be constructive to portfolio asset managers in creating investor profiles.","PeriodicalId":335699,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th Economics & Finance Conference, Dubrovnik","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131421509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
