Analysis of a group with oral rehabilitation patients with different types of fixed protected restorations, to correlate the therapeutic success rate with the type of aggregation of restorations and with the materials used to fabricate them. Material and methods. The study material was represented by the medical records of one group of the patients with various types of partial edentation. The interest data were collected and were processed with Microsoft Excel statistics from the Office 365 package. Results. The group included: 162 patients (59.56%) with 182 fixed prosthetic restorations with teeth aggregation (of which 106 metal-ceramic restorations, 33 metal-composite restorations, 22 restorations from zirconium with ceramic and 21 all-ceramic restorations) and 110 patients (40.44%) with 140 fixed prosthetic restorations with implant aggregation (72 metal-ceramic restorations, 5 metal-composite restorations, 36 zirconium-ceramic restorations and 27 all-ceramic restorations). Complications detected 3 years after the completion of prosthetic treatment were classified into biological and technical complications. Discussions. In the analyzed group, the metal-ceramic prosthetic restorations were numerically superior to those of integral ceramics or zirconium oxide and ceramics, but we also noticed the presence of metal-composite restorations, preferred by certain categories of patients for economic reasons. In our study we identified 21 technical complications and 19 biological complications. Conclusions. In the group analyzed retrospectively, the therapeutic success rate at 3 years was 87.58%. Metal-ceramic restorations were the main way of rehabilitation applied to edentulous patients. Metal-composite restorations had the highest percentage failure rate, and all-ceramic restorations had the lowest percentage failure rate. The failure rate for prosthetic restorations with teeth aggregation was 14.83%, and the failure rate for restorations with implant aggregation was 9.29%. In order to validate the results obtained, it is necessary to extend the study to larger groups of patients, dispensed for longer periods of time.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44062408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study shows, through the finite element, the way in which the periodontal ligament behaves at the level of all dental surfaces in nonlinear model and 3 levels of alveolar bone retraction (0 %, 50%, 75%). From the point of view of geometric construction, each model consists of 3 independent components: the alveolar bone, the periodontal ligament (PL) and the tooth. The deformities on the lingual surface are very small compared to the other surfaces. The deformity increases progressively with the loss of the supporting bone. From a physiological point of view, the nonlinear model is much closer to reality because it simulates the reaction of the tissue to its immediate loading by a very low rigidity after which, due to the hydrostatic pressure created in the interstitial fluid, the value of tissue rigidity increases exponentially.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41715419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study was to assess the results of the impact of the first year of the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 19) pandemic on the postgraduate hybrid educational process (virtual/e-learning and traditional) from a resident-centred perspective, in a group of general dentistry resident doctors. Materials and methods. A questionnaire with 32 items (Q1-Q32) was configured using Google Forms and filled online, anonymously. In the first section, demographic information was collected. The other sections collected data about: 1) technical support), 2) the impact of traffic restriction and self-isolation, 3) the impact of preclinical/clinical online training compared to the on-site one, 4) attendance of online theoretical courses, 5) the effect of preclinical training in laboratories, 6) the degree of online interactivity and 7) general satisfaction. Excepting demographics and Q1-Q3 items, all other parts used multi-choice responses based on a five-degree Likert scale. Results. Most resident doctors did not report any problem in connection to online courses, increased anxiety, troubled concentration, or decreased learning efficiency. Conclusions. Resident doctors considered part-time e-learning process as a viable approach capable of providing a qualitative education and that the reorganization of the preclinical activity allowed them to carry out more precise and efficient procedures in the clinic.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49664494","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Orthodontic diagnostic pictures are a non-invasive method of diagnosis and are made in the natural position of the head NHP, which is a standardized, reproducible position of the head in space where the subject is looking at a distant point of the eye level. The angular and metric values on the photo or teleradiography of the face/profile are essential elements in both establishing a diagnosis and the treatment plan that will aim to achieve a balanced face and a harmonious profile. These values can be transferred to the computer, and with the help of specialized software will be analyzed and interpreted for each clinical case. This study aimed to perform a comparative analysis of four angles that define the facial profile in a group of 30 patients (15 females and 15 males) patients aged 18-24 years with Angle I class malocclusions and bone growth finished. The values were measured on the profile photograph (after tracing the anthropometric points with an eye pencil) and statistically evaluated for both sexes, and the photos were scanned and important in the DSD software so that the same angles can be evaluated digitally. Digital orthodontics tends to take up more and more space in the assessment of an orthodontic case. In orthodontic treatments, the thickness of the soft parts that can compensate for an unsightly profile of the bone relief is taken into account.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48015561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is not considered a systemic disease but there are pathological influences between general diseases such as diabetes mellitus and periodontal disease. Anxiety of dental settlement is a main factor that prevent patients from addressing to a regular follow-up or, worse, to obtain the personalized treatment from the beginning of dental conditions. We present a case of a 24-year-old male that postponed his presentation to dentist until pain prevented him from a proper sleep. He required a complete history and clinical examination in order to identify his dental emergency and, also, the dentist anxiety he developed during his lifetime. His management required a complex treatment, fractioned in multiple session, in order to help him overcome his anxiety and to obtain a good outcome. The case particularity include the lack of proper oral hygiene, due to the acute and/or chronic pain that the patient encountered, alongside with the fear of the dentist and the dental office, that delayed the presentation to a specialist to the moment when pain was unbearable and represented a medical emergency.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41327893","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The link between the two comorbidities is bidirectional, with common aspects such the inflammatory state, altered immune response and healing process. This link is alimented, also, by oxidative stress, an element that can initiate proinflammatory pathways in both pathologies. Moreover, periodontal disease favors the development of DM complications by a multifactorial mechanism centered on hyperglycemia, that leads to damage of the endothelial vascular cells, characteristic for microvascular complications, while the periodontal bacteria and their waste products, and inflammatory cytokines lead to an increase in systemic inflammation and damage of the vascular walls that aggravates the atherogenic process. The increase of novel cases of type 2 DM or gestational DM in patients with periodontitis has no sufficient data. Dental caries is favored by DM and not by periodontal disease. So, DM is a well-known risk factor for periodontal disease and, on the other hand, periodontitis influences the metabolic control and favors the development of DM complications, but with a link between these conditions that is not fully understood. Other comorbidities, such as missing teeth, depression, osteoporosis are, also, positively associated to higher risk of development for periodontal disease. Patients with DM should be regularly screened for periodontal disease and referred to therapy if necessary, while the patients with periodontal disease should be screened for the presence of DM.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45398284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To evaluate the reasons for seeking dental care for children and teenagers attending an emergency clinic and the proportion of single visits treatments. Material and methods. A retrospective study was made on 500 children and teenagers (252 girls), mean age 13.91±2.3 years, who attended the emergency office from the Paedodontics Department of \"Carol Davila\" University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, during 2017-2019. Information regarding age/gender/diagnosis and treatment were analyzed. Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics and Pearson's Chi-square test with the significance level set as p < 0.05. Results. For 401 children (80.2%), pain was the main reason for the presentation in an emergency visit. 11% came for a specialist consultation and the others 8.8% because of a dental trauma. Nearly 79% of the visits were due to caries: 39% simple decays and 40% complicated caries. Of the decayed teeth, 62.8% were on the posterior teeth and 37.2% on the anterior permanent teeth. Only 15.4% needed one single visit treatment, the others needed a complex pulp therapy. Conclusions. Pain caused by dental decay was the most frequent chief complaint. A lot of children were brought to the dentist with complaints that had started long time before, for which over-the-counter medications had been used. Most children had complicated caries which requires multiple treatment sessions.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43087823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One important anatomic element is the palate that raises echographic technical difficulties such as the shadowing by facial bones and, especially, by the superior alveolar ridge, the fetal prone position and its localization, respectively, profoundly, inside of fetal head or anatomic obstacles such as the fetal tongue, so new echographic examination techniques are being under evaluation. The prenatal detection rate of fetal cleft palate remains low, so various methods of examination are being proposed. The ultrasound assessment of the fetal face is made by 2D ultrasound, technique completed by 3D ultrasound, which includes the evaluation in both axial and coronal planes, with the uvula being analyzed in two types of section, transversal and sagittal. In the latter to epiglottis is a landmark that confirms the identification of the uvula and a normal uvula has a typical and resembling echographic pattern to the equal sign. Even tough, prenatal diagnosis of soft palate cleft is a real challenge, with low detection rate due to difficulty of its visualization during routine examination, and even if suspected, diagnostic accuracy is low.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45505402","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
